thank you so much for this post!!!! I have used this technique for the last month now but I am struggling with the samples that are in Logic, I am aware that studios have hard drives full of great samples (as you said) I was wondering where you go to get your samples?
I finally got it to work. So the midi isn't actually playing the recorded kick. It's just playing the midi notes and whatever kick is on that key of the midi instrument
My question is...How do you take all of the tons of loops that are in ACID, Apple Loop, or Recycle format and break out the seperate drum parts to give to the mixing guy. The final mixing guy always asks for all of the drum sounds completely separated. So most people love the loops, but then when it's time to break all of those parts out...how in the heck do you do that?
If you hold control down and scroll in (mouse scroll with desktop, two fingers on the mousepad together on a laptop), then it will zoom in towards your mouse. On a mac, of course.
Maybe this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find it.. Could you perhaps tell me what mac software you are using to capture / zoom to what you do? It's pretty impressive :) Thanks
Damn. Thanks for that. I'm about to track live drums for the next album and all of the other tracks are done...you just saved me a LOT of time. YOU ROCK!
When doing audio to score on my kick drum, I get notes everywhere, and it takes awhile to select similar notes to the right "pitch" that is the kick drum. Is there a way to "select all" and then force all midi events on a track to the same pitch?
I would like to play drums on an mic'ed acoustic kit, but have electronic drums sounds (such as a 909) come out of a PA system. Is is possible to achieve this effect using the technique shown in this vid?
If you record them 1st, then yes. apTrigga 2 can also do this by replacing any recorded drum sound with any sample. For live use you will need triggers.
Cool. Are Superior Drummer and BFD etc worth it or can I get just as good results by spending time tweaking what Logic has available..i.e Ultrabeat , EXS etc ? Thanks again
I use BFD2. It's buggy as hell. I'd do a bit more research and get One of the other brands. Even though I love the flexibility and sound of BFD2, I might have to jump ship. They made a plugin so buggy that my system wants to crash the minute it loads. Make Ninja ANGRY.
That's amazing. I've got my level 2 cert in Logic and I didn't even know that existed! How well does it work with guitar strumming and more complicated transients? Even if it's not perfect, that's a way to sorta do what the new melodyne software is doing. Especially if you built your own sample library of your own guitar/instrument. Thanks a lot for the tip.
Put some noise filter on that audio man!

I keep clicking on my kick (recorded audio) and I follow the step but nothing appears on the software instrument. What is the problem? Thanks

That's fantastic. You don't have to buy Drumagog.
Can you do this kind of replacement with a bass?
Thanks,

I don't understand how to assign which midi track the notes go to. Once I get past one drum, I get mixed up.

Man, in 4 minutes u just help me making my transition from Cubase to Logic so much easier.
And the more focused you are on a specific vital feature (such as that one), the better it gets.
You should put a donation feature in ur page - I'll be happy to say thanx this way.

I have a Q. regarding Logic upgrade: I have bought the update from Logic Express to Logic Studio. Must I have the copy of Logic Express? Anyone?

One way is to use the Transform window. There are previous ninja videos covering this; take a look.

cool ApTrigga 2 probably easier and real cheap..in my experience has the most accurate timing.. but the audio to score thing is real cool
