I dont use the Power Grip I just use the regular grip where the Index finger is on the Front of the Disc and I still get a lot of snap cause I dont have body speed and I dont put a lot of shoulder speed. I just point my shoulder and keep my arm straight out in front of me and pull it back when I do the Xstep it works out. A pro guy said if I use the Power Grip well I can easily improve my distance greatly. I just end up turning it over or let go late!
Nice video! I keep my disc locked between my index and the base of my thumb, though. My hand looks like I'm giving a thumbs up. I can't keep my thumb pad and index locked and get a good grip on the disk. Maybe it has something to do with the proportion of my hand?
these videos have been so helpful in adding disctance and speed to my throws. I was just wondering, how loud should a snap be when you throw? When I throw, I hear a snap similar to what would be a normal snap of the fingers. Thanks!
thank you so much! I have thrown before and heard a snap. Unfortunately, I hyzered it and it hardly went anywhere. Now after watching this video, I realize it was my hand angle, not the snap, that was the issue!
These snap videos r terrific! I had heard of snap before, but now I know it's a real thing! If I understand right, when ur snapping a disc, u don't a long backswing? I've always heard that u should extend your arm fully away from the target on the backswing, but I've never been able to do this really. Another question--using this method, do u have to consciously flex your wrist at the end of the stroke or should it be automatic?
So, not a few days, but 5 months - Winter kinda got in the way. anyway, I think I'm getting closer. I just started playing last fall, and a few weeks ago I joined DGR (username "Banjar" there), so I'm just starting to soak up all the info there.. Great video.
I try this method but I cant get that snaping sound when I release. If I cant get that snap "click" sound when I release then I'm doing something wrong right?
@Intepacazule Try useing 2 fingers and your thumb. That is the only way I can get the snap. Every one has different styles. Find the one that works for you. For me I throw with 2 fingers and get 400 ft out of some disc. Not huge distance but good enough for me.
great vid, love the physics and analogies behind it. provides much need intuition when approaching my drives. btw, i love you're band...los lobos rocks!!
I've only just watched this and the hammer analogy really helps to imagine the feeling in my hand! Im going to try this tomorrow. I'm currently maxing out around 300' with a 175g Monarch. I'm definitely a 'puller' today, but I struggle with stable/overstable discs because I lack spin. I'll comment again in a few days and let you know how it went!
if this was scripted cleaner and shot partially in a studio(think videos such as Jim McClean's 8 step golf swing video), you could sell your videos for serious bank! Very very informative and the analogies and concepts are top notch!
can you help disc girl? i like the video. works good but can you relate it to a tennis player. She was a all state tennis player and has started playing dg but has no snap look at her videos... her channel is fullturn09
At the same speed... Yes.

so does a heavier disc fly further than a light disc then?

@Intepacazule - no not necessarily. The grip must bear down at the instant the disc tries to leave the hand. So the fingers can slap together.
