Enya - Amarantine (100% Live)

Enya is a musical genius. She is one of the few women who have attained this level. I have so much admiration for her work ethic and her understanding of music.

And Enya does not use a "machine" to sing as others have suggested. In the studio she uses reverb like every other artist. The backing layers are layered with individual vocals that are then enhanced with an abundant backing reverb to create a choral swathe, it takes a long long time to get that effect.

Her vocals are 100% live here, the only part that is playback is the instrumental part of the song, which is enhanced by the live musicians playing the strings on top of the original recording.

I truly enjoy Irish Celtic music and anything sounding like it. And Enya does that in quite a few songs. She is truly fucking brilliant.

She uses (and the chorus) special microphones with delay and reverberation for acoustic and soft sound effects. that is why a lot of people think it sounds and looks not live. But it is live, I know what I'm talking about. And this version differs from the album version.

The way Enya sang "Amarantine" the line is different from the the way she sang in the album, and I like this version better. Watermark still rules, but Amarantine is the best since Shepherd Moons IMO.

I have always loved Enya's music. It is nice to see this live performance and yes, she is definitely is a perfectionist, which could be seen as contrived but for her, it works very well. I think she has summed it up when you consider her voice as an instrument and layering her voice is perfectly natural in that context.

Still nice to hear her a live performance though.
