Mastering is about eq'ing so your music sounds completely perfect in hi-fi systems (you will also see a big difference in low quality soundsystems). It makes your music much more professional.
I just finished recording the backing tracks for my latest song. They sound good on my studio speakers and on my living room speakers...though a little different. But when I run the song through my bedroom speakers the song sounds bass heavy and slightly distorted.
Now I know a good mix should make the song sound good through any set of speakers you're using.
How can I achieve this goal? What should I do? Can you advise me?
Take a mastered song that you know sounds good and then compare how it sounds. if it still sounds bassy then its the speakers. if it still sounds good then you need to calibrate the speakers you are mixing on. Meaning your room or depending on your speakers need to balance the frequencies on how your are listening to your music.
yo i do mastering myself and this is a easy one.the frequency range on you speakers might be greater on the home or car system so some frequencies might get suppressed cause of that.best way to combat that problem is adjust the 28-50Hz eq so that will decrease suppression and allow other frequencies to soften and make those sounds come upfront like vocals
the face is of curly from the three stooges. it's just a funny novelty shirt. you can also get one with curly in the famous al pacino "scarface" photo. there are tons of 'em.

What exactly does "mastering" mean? Is it the same as mixing?

acoustic treatment? you can take the mix out the room, but you cant take the room out the mix...............

No...different speakers and stereos wherever I play my song make sound better or worse depending on the system it's being played on.
