  • I saw these guys live a few months back and it was absolutely incredible.

  • This is the sound of perfection.

  • Prepare to get jealous, here is my november:

    08: explosions in the sky

    16: orphaned land

    22: fleet foxes

    25: opeth

    30: low

In december, I will be able to say "the 80% of the concerts I've been was last month" ahah

  • @CugnoTheSwiss

Whaaaaa?! You're gonna have the BEST November. Lucky :)

  • @CugnoTheSwiss Orphaned Land, Low and Explosions in the sky.... nothing better live

  • Tell me that's not just devastaing. Oh my word, that just floored me.

  • hey whats wrong with mormons guys COME ON THE OSMONDS, puppy love, crazy horses..... XD

  • These group is magnificent!! I heard them live on WXPN on "The World Cafe" & they are so good. Definitely buying their CD.

  • i fell asleep

  • this music is like my Ex-Girlfriend... U know BrainShiting? xD

  • 31 dislikes? Suicide bombers shouldn't use youtube.

  • I heard an interview with the band last night and this album is about the Iraqi War.

  • @debbycoley

I heard an interview with the band in which they said it's about how he questions his own faith.

  • my friend pointed out an interesting insight to this song: Imagine the lyrics from the point of view of Judas speaking to Christ before he betrays him, especially if you have ever seen "The Last Temptation of Christ" the perspective chillingly resonates with the lyrics. It makes me wonder if it was intended to be that way.

  • Just about as beautiful as the dark places can be. Great performance of one of my favorite Low songs. Thanks for uploading!

  • One more thing before I go One more thing I'll ask you Lord You may need a murderer Someone to do your dirty work Don't act so innocent I've seen you pound your fist into the earth And I've read your book It seems that you could use another fool Well I'm cruel And I look right through You must have more important things to do So if you need a murderer Someone to do your dirty work
  • too bad they're mormon

  • @NickKentucky When it sounds good, it does't matter who or what makes the music.

  • @NickKentucky touche! very true

  • @Love0dyssey

    it's cold in there

  • haven't heard them live before. Amazing.

  • wish this was in HD :(

  • The Current is one of the main reasons I am so proud to be from Minneapolis.

  • @jessrocksyo and michelle bachman is one reason to be ashamed.

  • City and Colour does a great cover of this song.

  • Is this against God??

  • @ConspiracyClown I don't think it's against god really because they are mormons. That said it does seem to be against the acts of violence performed in the name of god. It's against the view of god that some people have as a bloodthirsty murderer who wants you to kill for him (which they justify with the old testament, quran, etc). Alain calls these religious fanatics "fools". I may be way off base here but this is what I got from it. I'd be curious to hear other opinions.

  • @Bagodonuts15 Yea, i thought it may have something to do with the war in iraq.

the fact that none of the congressmen of the u.s government (who play "god") put their own kids in the war, yet they spend millions to promote other kids to join in 'mudering' innocent civilians in the middle east

Maybe punching fists into the earth could represent firing missiles into the earth

But, of course, my definition is very likely to be off from what the real meaning is. Thats just an interpretation

  • @ConspiracyClown yeah that might be it. I just thought because he specifically said lord, talks about how he wants to commit murder before he goes (dies) and than says he read your book (the bible) that it was about god. Though not necessarily about the actual god but the actions that are undertaken in the name of god (the iraq war could be one). Anyway this is all speculation, it would be cool to hear what Mr. Sparhawk has to say. I seriously love everything about this song

  • @Bagodonuts15 Complicating the issue a little, there are a couple of versions of this song where he doesn't say "ask you Lord" (in one it sounds like he says "ask to know", in the other it's "ask to hold"... his voice was clear, the camera was zoomed in close, and the word "to" was unmistakable).

  • @mickycisme I didnt know that but it definitely takes away a bit from my interpretation. I still don't know what else he could mean by I read your book though unless it's a metaphor. Maybe the anti war interpretation is right in which case the lyrics are still really good

  • @Bagodonuts15 I think there is still a lot of room for different interpretations. I've always thought it was sort of a somber "shaking ones fist at the sky" thing, something like "okay, I did what you told me to, and I will continue to do so. But where is it all going? There's all sorts of bad stuff going on, and you might 'have more important things to do' but I'm here every day. So I'll do what you ask, but we're going to have a talk about this later." But that's just my interpretation.

  • @mickycisme yeah I like that, you may be right. I thought that "you must have more important things to do" meant you must have more important things to do than ask me to commit violence in your name (being god and all). but your idea makes just as much sense. I think that part of what makes this song so great is that the lyrics are powerful no matter how you look at it. Being vague works to its advantage

  • @Bagodonuts15 This was on Drums and Guns, right? Largely about Iraq. I think you are pretty close.

To me it's less about those who use religion for war, more about those who use it for life. His god "must have more important things to do", but we don't - we're here every day, doing what we think is right, yet all of this horrible stuff is still going on. The Book goes one way, The World goes another... but his god made both. So he's thinking about balance, trying to make sense of it all.

  • I mean really, a low video possibly the best live performance available to watch on youtube and it's packed full of kids thanking Thom. It's awful that they don't even use his surname and we already know who he is. Dial down the Thom, kids.

  • Can Sparhawk put up a blog where he directs people to a radiohead song which is crap. I know Sparhawk wouldn't do such a thing but it would amuse me no end. I love Low. sigh.

  • better than the studio version.

  • this song is about an hour and a half too short

  • @ianh45 no, no, please no! I like the song but I was kinda looking more from the drums. But then again minimalist is cool

  • Why is Shakira's "Waka Waka" in the suggestion window on the side?

  • @LordNifty Excellent question. o.O

  • @LordNifty Maybe it was the only thing they could think of to suggest that was funky enough to deflect some of the Thomishness that made it's way over here.

  • indiemormonrock = oddly good

  • yeah people from iceland are pretty nice, really sound actually, most sandinaivan countries are pretty chilled out folks

  • "don't act so innocent I've seen you pound your fists into the earth."

I think I just found a new song to help me worship time.........

  • what an amazing song

  • Hahaha did Thom Yorke direct people here? I see people thanking him like they often do when he puts up those 'Office playlists' =p. Fantastic song from a fantastic band, every chord and harmony hits you so hard despite its minimalism!

  • @cscheben Oh did he? We don't need his face here HEY GUYS IT'S ME THOM YORKE REMEMBER HOW I DON'T LIKE WAR AND STUFF? WELL JUST TO REMIND YOU, I HATE WAR AND HERE IS A SONG ABOUT WAR AND HOW CRAP IT IS WHICH IS RIGHT UP MY STREET BECAUSE I'M THOM YORKE AND AS YOU KNOW I ABHOR WAR IN ALL IT'S FORMS.

PS: READ NOAM CHOMSKY BECAUSE I'M THOM YORKE

    PS: IT'S THOM YORKE

  • shit

  • Thanks Thom!

  • this is just beautiful...

  • subdued hatred after incident, to disdain, to depression=experienced realization and finally death.

  • I have to listen to this song about 4 or 5 times a day lately.

  • This song make me feel I'm death and going to heaven

  • Comment removed

  • spot on, what a brilliant live version :)

  • This song always makes my hair stand up straight

  • My ways are not your ways and my thoughts are not your thoughts....OH MAN

  • Outstanding every time I hear it.

  • Fucking hell. This is.....incredible. A friend played me this track and now I'm off to buy everything they've ever recorded.

  • not bad.

  • @habush01

  • PERFECT. It sounds exactly like the studio version.

  • First low song I've learned on guitar! It's so fucking pretty..

  • Duluth's finest. Proof that those soaring vocal harmonies aren't all overdubs.

  • "GAME TIME 20:10" (400 bars) /watch?v=_9HMqlpvmQo

  • every time my friends put on The XX, i tell them to listen to Low. where do you think The XX got their inspiration from? maybe it's just me.

  • @Kinshasa9200 Been trying to put my finger on The xx's inspiration. You're spot on. Thank you.

  • i have so much more respect for the Mormon faith after listening to these guys .....

  • Fuck

  • Awesome

  • i get sweaty when i dance to dis song yo!

  • Just. Fucking. Beautiful.

  • It's good, but i prefer Dallas Greens version

  • @omgtomas where can i hear that? i tried searching, but no luck

  • @liosama

Just type in "City and colour murderer"

    There is a list. :)

  • Just loud enough.

  • so, the lyrics suggest that god is a cruel murderer and manipulator, yet two of them are practicing Mormons. I do love this song, but it doesn't make sense to me. You definitely wouldn't be able to guess their religion from any of their songs.

  • @somedaythewave

my impression is that the lyrics are from the point of view of someone (of any religion) using their god to justify murder/violence/war.

  • @somedaythewave It actually shows the opposite

The song is also about subjecting oneself.

  • "Someone to do your dirty work." Rings clear as a bell in my head!

  • It's time for something new from Low. AFAIK there hasn't been a release since "Santa's Coming Over" - surely the most harrowing Christmas song ever!

  • amazing...amazing...

  • low opened for the swans years ago, thats how i was introduced to them. Michael Gira has had some great people open for him. I'm surprised he didn't try to snatch them up into his label like he did Devandra

  • Alan from Low told me that when they opened for Radiohead, he spent a lot of time yelling at people in the front row. The Radiohead fans weren't as receptive of Low as they should have been, I was very disappointed in them. Wilco fans don't appreciate Low either when they open for them.

  • Saw them play Leeds a year or so ago...incredible! This is a great album to get (Drums & Guns) and check out the Retribution Gospel Choir too, Alan Sparhawks other band...class act....

  • wish these would come to england, fucking absolutely love them.

  • i'm defenitely gonna dig this guys out

    Than you Thom,

it' great to see how many peapole keeps checkin on dead air space

  • What did thom yorke have to do with this? Did he mention it in something

  • @TheMusicOfWhy

    thom yorke lo conoces??

    radiohead??

  • on the radiohead website thom often writes a list of songs hes been listening to that week.

  • thanks thom!

  • thom you're great man! XD

  • nice song, and thanks to thom yorke.

  • thom yorke

    te seguimos al pie

  • THOM

  • listened to this song a thousand times and it still gives me the shivers, god I love this band...

  • yeah wow you guys are original

great song really nice live too

  • HERE CUZ OF THOM YORKE

  • I love Thom Yorke

  • im here because of thom!

  • THANKS TO THOM! gosh, from Russia.

  • nice sound..

  • Thom sent me here too.

  • Oh Thom! I love yaaaaaaa!!!! soo damn much. Thom Yorke of Radiohead of course.

  • 'thom sent me here' haha genius

  • same

  • Thom sent me here.

  • thanx thom :)

    beautiful!

  • Sooooo pretty. Thanks Thom!

  • Thom?

  • Thom Yorke, Radiohead's vocalist, mentioned this song on his regular playlist recommendations on his website, which makes it awesome.

  • I saw that. I was like "Thom Yorke recommended a Low song! How awesome"

I didn't know Radiohead liked Low.

  • Low opened up for Radiohead on the "Hail to the Thief" tour. A couple years ago I talked to Alan from Low about that tour, and when I brought Thom up to him, he gave a scowl... said he was very gracious to Thom and the band, but that Thom was a bit of a snob to them. You gotta love Alan not kissing Thom's ass!

  • The fact that he recommended it makes it awesome? C'mon now! Good we have rockstars to tell us what to like.

  • @flubly...do you really expect to meet an entire country with equal persepectives, obviously their are "assholes" in every culture. I think its your kind of thinking that makes americans look like douchebags.

    Speaking before thinking.

  • @MattySummaz I never got a notice for your reply in my email so this was a while ago. I am really confused by your reply. I was reprimanding someone for saying that there are countries out there totally comprised of assholes and I said that there are assholes all over the world. I was basically telling him that there are no utopias. Is that not true? I have no idea where you got the idea that I expect to meet an entire country with equal perspectives. That makes no sense to me.

  • cruel

  • this would make youtube worthwhile all by itself.

  • so incredible so amazing one of the most deepest song in the world

  • cruel but fantastic!

  • is it "well, im cool" or "well, im cruel"?

  • cruel.

  • yeah, I think cruel. especially how he says it. Sounds like it would be cruel

  • Cruel

  • preciosa voz!!!!

  • esto es lo mejor del universo

  • Jokerkiwi-I sort of agree with that theory. Sparhawk has stated that the album contains themes of our current "war". I like the way it seems ambiguous to soldiers on both sides. Great song/artists.

  • просто замечательный тот их альбом, а от песни Breaker можно и умом тронуться!.. я рыдаю...

  • Mimi and Alan's voices together! I've heard nothing sweeter in any style of music!

  • This song is the prayer of an abortion clinic bomber or Muslim fanatic prior to committing to some terrible act.

I'm not sure I know any song touching on this subject like this. Brilliant and chilling.

I love both this stripped down live version as well as the studio version.

  • nice interpretation ....

this version much better that studio...thats my opinion ....

    it is very chilling

  • What? How in the world do you tie that in?

  • He (the speaker in the song, that is) is praying to his god and wants to be used to kill in the name of his god ("It seems that you could use another fool"). It could be any religious fanatic who kills in the name of "god." I doubt Alan Sparhawk had any one particular religious fanatic, but examples abound...

  • wow, thanks for sharing, I never knew that's what this song was about... so I take it Alan isn't singing words he believes in when he performs this song

  • lol i heard of this band from skins

  • They have thousands more...just kidding. hundreds...

  • My god this song is ....bliss.....who the hell are these guys ... never heard of them till now.....

  • @Bozzy83, they're Low, one of the most loved American slocore bands. They've been around since the early-mid 90s making very slow, aching music with perfect harmonies and very meticulous rhythms. The aural equivalent of a haiku. Also, they're mormon and they're married with some beautiful children. The first time I saw them was like a religious experience, playing to melting candles.

  • absolutely amazing i havent stopped listening to them ...

I was just wondering what part "being a mormon" has in their music? ok apart from the influence of course however i would have never picked that up if people haven't told me ....

    amazing....

  • Their mormon faith doesn't have much to do with their music at all. Occasionally they'll brush the topic of religion in their songs. Even their Christmas EP has secular songs on it, in addition to some religious.

  • This song makes me think of the bible story of Abraham and Isaac. Where Abraham was gonna kill his son because God told him to, you know, do his dirty work. I personally, apply a healthy dose of sarcasm to the lyrics in this song. I hope that's how they meant it to be. I really do.

  • Sorry other bands that it is so hard to beet this.

  • i totally forgot how much i love this band. good thing i was reminded..

  • Low exist for such a long time. Everyone knows them, so it is quite ridiciolous to talk about them as if they were some kind of secret tip.

  • @beefheartjoe, "everyone knows them?" Coming from a guy named Beefheartjoe, you are making assumptions. Unfortunately, very very few people (relative to the world or even just say, a relatively miniscule country like oh, let's go with Denmark) actually know who Low is (probably fewer than know Beefheart actually, because at least the Zappa heads sometimes stumble into that world).

  • @robwyattfan *cough* I don´t know why I shouldn´t say something about this just because I called myself "beefheartjoe", but I just found it crazy that everyone talks here like "here´s the indie nerd talking to you, this is slow post dark core". I can just talk about europe and here they are quite know in the indie scene.

  • @beefheartjoe, Right, I'm not suggesting they're completely unknown or totally obscure, but the majority of listeners here don't know who they are, even those who truly enjoy music. Compare the popularity of Low to some of the other acts on the 89.3 channel: Tori Amos, BRMC, Clinic, Klaxons, etc. Even Sparklehorse and the Go! Team have received more mainstream attention than Low. As such, I don't fault people for not knowing who they are and am glad they're welcoming Low to their palettes.

  • america NOT EQUAL TO everyone

  • I don't know what this is about or who this is to, but I'm American, and thank you for saying that.

Being American makes me want to puke. Everyone is so cocky about it. They act like we have it bad. My father died in the war and it's fucking pathetic.

We all need to get over ourselves.

  • Dude - lets get one thing straight .... you cant get over human pain as easy as being cocky about being American ........

Its not the people ... its Bush's stupid foreign policy .....

  • Not all americans are fat lazy pigs you know.....if that were the case then there would never be a protest or a arrest of an outspoken person or homeschooling or anything that challenges the government. Its just that the clones get the media space...all you have to do is turn on your now converter box attached TV to see that. There is nothing but garbage and I don't even watch tv anymore. I love my country but I'm not too happy that it is being used as a toilet .

  • I am from America and I know all that. Media is crap. America is just one big stereotype but honestly? A lot of people ARE cocky about being from here (sorry for using the word everyone... I am a hypocrite). It's easy to see all that. And we are being used as a toilet but it's mainly Americans themselves who make it seem like that. I'm ashamed of being from here but I can't change that. I'd like to love this country, it IS something to love. America is one big hypocrite too.

  • I'm Canadian and I've always had sort of a grudge against my southern neighbours, but I've been studying American history this semester and learning actually what makes USA amazing. There's still a lot good things about your country, don't forget that man. You'll find it in a text book rather than the MTV though.

  • Is there any humble country out there? I've met assholes from every corner of the globe.

  • @Flubly

If you find an asshole from Iceland, let me know ;)

  • There's going to be at least one out of those 316,960.

  • @Flubly Perhaps you should not look to nations for humility. The mere fact of sovereign exclusivity in an age of human overpopulation and resource depletion seems to portend the actuality of exceptional assholeness.

  • @diaryofascholar I don't look to nations for humility, I don't look to nations for any kind of personality trait. That's the whole point of my comment.

Whether or not the assholeness of this age is exceptional, I think there has never been completely utopian cultures. Every subculture from the big cities to the 5 person book club that meets every Wednesday has their vices.

  • @Flubly Perhaps you should have phrased your original question "humble person" instead of "humble country."

  • Hate to tell you this, but there is no legitimate protesting or outspokenness in this country... in general, Americans accept pure shit, including our leaders, and the country is now devoid of substance and logic in its culture and rules.

  • @mrscry True, because your country has literally become a corporation.

  • @Namaste1001 Sad, but true. The Great Democratic Experiment is dead, dead, dead. But in its place The Great Spectacle has arisen, to dazzle the eyes and numb the mind so we don't turn around and ask "what's that slapping me in the ass?"

In the past our elected representatives called us 'citizens'. Now they only call us 'consumers'. This is not an accident; after they literally 'embodied' companies - making them 'corporations' - we became little more than life-support for the damned things.

  • @Namaste1001 I agree... what country are you from?

  • @mrscry - The UK which is the location of The Crown that administers THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA corporation. Note the all capitals which legally donates corporate status.

  • and for everyone who tries to put it in a genre... stop... you miss the point... if you hear... hear... don't use this band for coolness points you found it first... just be thankful you found them...

  • i realize now what it means to grow old. to have loved and grown with this music for so many years... one part of me says wonderful. that others now listen.but the other part says how?... buy their albums because they deserve your money.and a very few of you will actually get it... do i? only because of time i suppose... you sit in a bar... no one moving... but just listening... not looking for a scene... or even for the record.. just realizing... they are speaking to you...

  • Call it Darkcore if you like...still amazing and beautiful work

  • <3 low <3

  • Some of the best minimalist slowcore you'll ever hear...been around a long time.

  • I only found out about this band when my CD of The Veils came with a little promo sheet advertising other bands. I saw they had "Low" on them, so i checked them out and it was unlike anything i had ever heard before. I now have The Curtain Hits the Cast, Trust, The Great Destroyer and Drums & Guns. All brilliant albums if you ask me..

  • Hasta que veo videos de Low por you tube... gracias a quien lo subió gracias!
