that is very true and good advice about find a private teacher, i have learnt more in last 6 weeks than i have in a few years, now i got the sound i been loking for due to at last getting the correct mouth piece otto newyork 7 bit expensive but well worth it
Hi there Lateboomer! I'm a selftought sax player aswell...and can tell that you're playing very inspiring, we may not be perfect but we have the love in our hearts to keep on blowing the Horn!!!! Keep it up!!! Thumbs Up :)
I would still highly suggest it, maybe find a college music major kid, or like a high school player if you have a college or any really good high school bands near you. But, really is up to you. I still can't stress how much it will help.
u are a pure self taught player on the sax? i can appraeciate that fo i like the sax too and might take on it someday, can u tell me about th edifferent saxes alto, tenor and stuff it confuses me, also is the sax easier to learn compared to say the piano
The alto is a little bit smaller than the tenor and it sounds higher.
If you prefer to play a polyphone instrument, you should play piano. If you prefer to play single notes, you should play a saxphone. It´s very easy to produce a wonderfull tone on piano. Just press a key. It will sound great immediately. But its very hard to find the right tuning on saxophone, because the level of the tone depends on many influences like breathing, lips pressure and some others.
@64miguel The four main saxes are soprano, alto, tenor, and bari. soprano and tenor are in the key of Bb and alto and bari are in the key of Eb. This mean that to make a note sound the same pitch and alto and bari could play G but, if you were to add a tenor or soprano they would have to play a C. Also beginning piano is easy, its a key not a reed you have to vibrate. But, saxophone is easier in other ways. Piano is much harder at counting and you have to have super fast hands.
Thank you. I think it has been my mouthpiece Zinner TS 78-6. I don`t remember the ligature. It must have been one of those cheap standard ligs or a Vandoren Optimum, ´cause I don´t possess any other. I´m sorry, but I can´t remember.

You have succeeded in butchering an American Classic. When you sustain a note I want to take that horn and shove it up your ass so far it won't come out.
Nice job, man. Watch the tone in the upper register though. But the main advice I can give is to watch your fingers. It is much more efficient to keep your fingers nearer the keys when you play. Dont lift them so far off the keys. Try to keep them as near to the keys as possible. It's better technique and it will help you play faster passages. Keep up the good work. Check my channel for some new videos. I'm planning to add some this week.
Hi there. I'm a four-year Bb Clarinetest and I'm currently playingit in the school's Symphonic Band. I'm twelve years old now and I signed up for Tenor Saxophone because it has basically all the same fingerings as the Clarinet.
Special thanks to trumsahead, who posted two audios of the great Lucky Thompson, one of my favorite saxophonists. (Unfortunately there is only one short videoclip of Thompson in the whole web.
That was a beautiful solo, love the low register. Isthat I Cover the Waterfront? You play beautifully, keep it up. Not a wasted note. Thanks for posting.
You have very nice tone in the lower octave, but not as good when you go to the upper end of the higher octave, say above F or so. Nice job overall though.
I wouldn't switch to the tenor too early because of its heavier weight. If you're eleven years old, it may damage your neck. A tenor is much greater, too. Maybe it doesn't fit to your body length. It will look strange. Once a doctor, who plays saxophone, told me, that the capacity of a teenager's lung isn't sufficient enough. So my advice: Try to get as good as Cannonball Adderley with your alto for a few years, then switch to tenor. Good luck!
that ain't no vibrato...i'd call it a diaphrametic quiver...it does nothing to enhance...to service the great song...maybe it was freezin'....out there in the cold....coverin' the waterfront.lol
yeah dude the note bending is good so u definately got the lip strength just work on the steady vibrato, when u use vibrato its really fast and uneven sounds like ur nervous. i said the exact same thing in ur other video so i'll shutup now
When I was thirteen I took guitar lessons for one year. After that I never took any lessons again. But I watch saxophonists on stage, i.e. Bob Mintzer yesterday evening. That has been a lesson, too.

cheacky15 10 months ago
This is sssooooo beutifull.
I want to play the sax so bad! Is it easier than some other instruments?
cheacky15 11 months ago
@cheacky15
It´s easier than to play piano, because the sax is (mostly) monophon (you don´t play two or more tones at the same time)
It´s much more harder than piano, because you have to work a lot to get a good intonation (a tone, that fits)
And it needs much more service (to clean, to repair, to be careful with the mechanic elements)
So, every instrument is easy and to to play ...
Just try it. It´s a fascinating instrument!

dude your tone could use some work but otherwise pretty good

I started to play saxophone eight years ago. I´m an absolutely self-taught player. I practice one hour a day.

Maybe an alto saxophone would be a better decision because of its lower weight. Take care of your neck.

Mouthpiece: Zinner TS-78-6. It's a black german handcrafted mouthpiece (low-budget compared with those metal mouthpieces).
The tenor sax: B&S TS 249 Antoine Courtois Paris (its a 1:1 stencil of the model "Medusa").
The Reed: Vandoren ZZ 2 or 2,5 (I can't remember)
