  • that is very true and good advice about find a private teacher, i have learnt more in last 6 weeks than i have in a few years, now i got the sound i been loking for due to at last getting the correct mouth piece otto newyork 7 bit expensive but well worth it

  • What note are you mainly playing?

  • Where can I buy an alto saxophone?

  • This is sssooooo beutifull.

I want to play the sax so bad! Is it easier than some other instruments?

  • @cheacky15

It´s easier than to play piano, because the sax is (mostly) monophon (you don´t play two or more tones at the same time)

It´s much more harder than piano, because you have to work a lot to get a good intonation (a tone, that fits)

And it needs much more service (to clean, to repair, to be careful with the mechanic elements)

So, every instrument is easy and to to play ...

Just try it. It´s a fascinating instrument!

  • dude your tone could use some work but otherwise pretty good

  • Hi there Lateboomer! I'm a selftought sax player aswell...and can tell that you're playing very inspiring, we may not be perfect but we have the love in our hearts to keep on blowing the Horn!!!! Keep it up!!! Thumbs Up :)

  • Now that's a real saxophonist...!

  • find a private teacher you will become better in one year than u would of in 5, great job though

  • @DMANGUY14

I´m not one of those who like teachers very well ... ;-)

  • @Lateboooomer

I would still highly suggest it, maybe find a college music major kid, or like a high school player if you have a college or any really good high school bands near you. But, really is up to you. I still can't stress how much it will help.

  • gut,sehr gut!

  • Grüße aus Deutschland. Ich verstoh was do unte stoht.

  • Nicely played - thank you! Greetings from Baden/Germany.

;D Villicht isch´s au emol eso, dass ebber des verstoht was ich do schrieb. Super solo , der hett ´s scho druf :D

  • schönes Solo!

  • Work on keeping steady tone on long notes and intonation and I'd have no problems. Good job all the same.

  • pakarai

  • gooooooooooooood

  • He Boomer nice sound, reminds me of Dexter. Good work in 8 years! Keep on gooing

    Succes from saxman 'vanjanjan'

  • Hey there, dunno what that other dude was saying :S But I think you sound really nice.

It's a beautiful ballad as well, do you know who composed it?

    I love 2:55

Nicely played - what level are you?

  • Thank you for you comment.

    The composer is Johnny Green.

I started to play saxophone eight years ago. I´m an absolutely self-taught player. I practice one hour a day.

  • u are a pure self taught player on the sax? i can appraeciate that fo i like the sax too and might take on it someday, can u tell me about th edifferent saxes alto, tenor and stuff it confuses me, also is the sax easier to learn compared to say the piano

    ? :)

  • @64miguel

The alto is a little bit smaller than the tenor and it sounds higher.

If you prefer to play a polyphone instrument, you should play piano. If you prefer to play single notes, you should play a saxphone. It´s very easy to produce a wonderfull tone on piano. Just press a key. It will sound great immediately. But its very hard to find the right tuning on saxophone, because the level of the tone depends on many influences like breathing, lips pressure and some others.

  • @64miguel The four main saxes are soprano, alto, tenor, and bari. soprano and tenor are in the key of Bb and alto and bari are in the key of Eb. This mean that to make a note sound the same pitch and alto and bari could play G but, if you were to add a tenor or soprano they would have to play a C. Also beginning piano is easy, its a key not a reed you have to vibrate. But, saxophone is easier in other ways. Piano is much harder at counting and you have to have super fast hands.

  • your pretty good. nice tone. what mouthpiece and lig are u using?

    Hast einen guten tag!

  • Thank you. I think it has been my mouthpiece Zinner TS 78-6. I don`t remember the ligature. It must have been one of those cheap standard ligs or a Vandoren Optimum, ´cause I don´t possess any other. I´m sorry, but I can´t remember.

  • decent

  • Nice Playing and tone.

  • Hí LB

Great personal version of this tune! Sound just like "Prez" (Lester Young)

    5*****

    Thank´s

    JDB

  • Ooooh, never heard this before :-)

  • thats funny

  • Well done

  • Nice job, man. Watch the tone in the upper register though. But the main advice I can give is to watch your fingers. It is much more efficient to keep your fingers nearer the keys when you play. Dont lift them so far off the keys. Try to keep them as near to the keys as possible. It's better technique and it will help you play faster passages. Keep up the good work. Check my channel for some new videos. I'm planning to add some this week.

  • Hi there. I'm a four-year Bb Clarinetest and I'm currently playingit in the school's Symphonic Band. I'm twelve years old now and I signed up for Tenor Saxophone because it has basically all the same fingerings as the Clarinet.

What do you suggest for me?

  • Maybe an alto saxophone would be a better decision because of its lower weight. Take care of your neck.

  • naa let him do Bari, thats were its at! haha. im jk, i've played bari for 4 years, still makes my neck sore sometimes after playin for a while.

how long have u played the sax?

  • Me? 10 weeks max.

  • Sweet! Great song.

  • Thanks to all for your postings!

Special thanks to trumsahead, who posted two audios of the great Lucky Thompson, one of my favorite saxophonists. (Unfortunately there is only one short videoclip of Thompson in the whole web.

  • That was a beautiful solo, love the low register. Isthat I Cover the Waterfront? You play beautifully, keep it up. Not a wasted note. Thanks for posting.

  • You have very nice tone in the lower octave, but not as good when you go to the upper end of the higher octave, say above F or so. Nice job overall though.

  • Bravo!

  • thxs

  • I have played alto for 2 yrs. im still playing . Im going to milanos on saturday to try a tenor . Should I swith or stay. Im 11

  • I wouldn't switch to the tenor too early because of its heavier weight. If you're eleven years old, it may damage your neck. A tenor is much greater, too. Maybe it doesn't fit to your body length. It will look strange. Once a doctor, who plays saxophone, told me, that the capacity of a teenager's lung isn't sufficient enough. So my advice: Try to get as good as Cannonball Adderley with your alto for a few years, then switch to tenor. Good luck!

  • it doesnt matter on age on when you play tenor just get good support on it youll be good youll just need more air

  • very nice !!! you on a good way to get yourself a great sound.

  • I also play a ballad on tenor sax on my video,if you want you can check it out

  • Very nice. You got 5 stars from me! Ciao

  • that ain't no vibrato...i'd call it a diaphrametic quiver...it does nothing to enhance...to service the great song...maybe it was freezin'....out there in the cold....coverin' the waterfront.lol

  • Thank you for your comments.

  • Nice vibrato!

  • PLEASE SEND ME THE MUSIC! i am a junior sax player and your an inspiration!!

  • Thank you all for your comments!

457pickle: I'm sorry, but I don't even get a copy of that clip. I'm an non-professionel and don't get any records. Maybe in the future.

  • Hey Lateblooomer,

schön. Ich stehe ja auf Balladen. Könnte ich die ganze Zeit hören.

    Liebe Grüße

    mos

  • Oh, welch' Lob aus erfahrenem Saxophonistinnen-Munde. Bedankt!

  • have you tried learning false fingerings for higher notes yet? it helps a lot with soloing ^_^. sounds great tho! keep it up!

  • Thank you. I've tried false fingerings, but not for higher notes. I first have to look for the right keys.

  • <----jaw drop nice very nice

  • I hope I can get that good

  • Very nice. I could hear the chord changes and melody line all through the improvisation.

    Well done.

  • I really enjoyed it. Thx!

  • hey man not bad, but work on your tone. Try playing softer and keep your embacure nice and relaxed and low jaw. Peace and jazz be with you

  • Thank you for your suggestion. I'll do my best.

  • yeah dude the note bending is good so u definately got the lip strength just work on the steady vibrato, when u use vibrato its really fast and uneven sounds like ur nervous. i said the exact same thing in ur other video so i'll shutup now

  • Thank you for your suggestion. I guess, I will never get such a fine vibrato like Coleman Hawkins and those guys.

  • beautiful...simply beautiful...enjoyed it.

  • Thank you. The best blues CD I ever heard in my life is:

Johnny Winter "Hey, where's your brother?", 1992 Virgin Records, especially the song "You keep sayin' that you're leavin'".

  • very nice man you sound like a pro, you have a sound a similar sound like rollins very nice.

    peace and jazz

  • Thank you, although you're kidding ... ;-)

  • no brother seriusly keep playing like that, what is your setup?

  • Mouthpiece: Zinner TS-78-6. It's a black german handcrafted mouthpiece (low-budget compared with those metal mouthpieces).

The tenor sax: B&S TS 249 Antoine Courtois Paris (its a 1:1 stencil of the model "Medusa").

The Reed: Vandoren ZZ 2 or 2,5 (I can't remember)

  • je first time i hear about those brands but is very cool man the best version i have heard of this piece. is on my favorites now. thanks for posting

  • wow great for six years do you take lessons??

  • When I was thirteen I took guitar lessons for one year. After that I never took any lessons again. But I watch saxophonists on stage, i.e. Bob Mintzer yesterday evening. That has been a lesson, too.

  • And here speaks Latebooomer in Hawk manner! Great Play!
