HMMM! WOw! Cant wait for this to be played at his concert comin to Cleveland on 10/10 It's been on the set list on the Euro tour. And it is brilliant!
theres a river flowing, by a willow tree, i remember standing in such a place with a women , who thirty years later i realise was my only love, for you lauren
A rare performance. A perfect blend of individual greatness and perfection in ensemble rock and great talents feeding off each other. This a uniquely brilliant video and one the all time best of the genre. I can't watch it enough
saw roxy music on the flesh and blood tour in manchester at the apollo without doubt the best concert ive ever seen for pure class roll on 2011 for the new roxy music tour
hey,I joined their concert in Bonn/Germany Sept.1st ,guests "Fun lovin`Criminals".Believe me,I`ll never forget this evening.I`m 50 years old and I joined lots of concerts in my life, but this was the absolute Highlight!! Amazing, fantastic, from beginning `till the end (also "FLC"!)They don`t play music,no,they live music! I invited my former lady, both never seen "R.M." before, and while this song we both had the same vibes, felt about who`s our real and only love.we spent the night together..Yeahh!
Ya...I had one of "those"....blew my mind..then "kicked it in"....I think of those times and wonder..what the hell I was thinking?? in lala land of lust...got it ALL now...great relationship, complete w the little house by the beach, good job, great pay....KEEP DREAMING FOLKS! it can happen to you...again...only BETTER. :) :)
Second guitar solo is probably the worst i have ever heard on this level , this man took a crap in heaven. Maybe he had bad day and on reharsals it had sounded better, but he really fucked up in the end.
@aaszx1 chris spedding is NOT a bad guitarist, just has a different style than Manzanera. Chris played in early seventies with Jack Bruce, so he is definitely not a hack.
This is my favorite Roxy Music Song of all time, the best from the flesh and blood album. i love it, it makes me shiver. it reminds me to the time of my real only love. Thanks for posting !!!
such great music, style, texture, soul, this is what music is about, not today's grunge, rap and other crap that makes you long to turn the clock back to the 80's and before, god bless Bryan Ferry
Goodbye to this kind of music forever. It's all been replaced by rap. Can you see Bryan Ferry wearing his baggy jeans clown pants with his baseball cap sideways? I don't think so, he's a class act. Rap has no class.
@dmgcat could not agree with you more, rap has no feeling or soul, just a monotonous beat and crude and vulgar lyrics. As a blues singer, I can appreciate the feeling and true emotion artists like Bryan put into their music
@roolx111 YOU CAN ALWAYS TELL WHEN A CROWD TRULY IS INTO THE MUSIC, THEY ARE TOTALLY SILENT AND JUST TAKING IN THE SOUNDS, ANOTHER GROUP THAT COULD DO THAT WAS PINK FLOYD, WAS AT A CONCERT OF THEIRS IN 75 WITH 55,000 PEOPLE AT COUNTY STADIUM IN MILWAUKEE, AND DURING PARTS OF DARK SIDE OF THE MOON YOU COULD HEAR A PIN DROP, EVERYONE IN AUDIENCE WAS ENTHALLED, THAT'S THE MARK OF A GREAT BAND!!!
Great! Saw Roxy 3 times: '72, '76, '80. Each time was different, new, remade, but great. In '83 I was at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chic. I was holding my young son & I smelled the best cologne ever & looked around & there was Bryan Ferry holdin his son! He acknowledged that I recognized him & he looked @ my son & knoded & smiled & I looked at his & smiled back. Me & Bryan doin the exact same thing! When I'm feelin down, I put on this song and remember that chance meeting - all is good.
The important thing about the drummer is; do you enjoy listening to the drums, or are they obnoxious? Here, we anticipate and enjoy the jazzy offbeats as part of this deeply romantic, passionate ensemble. Bryan Ferry and Roxy at their best! The drums compliment, but never get in the way.
Bryan Ferry is such a class act, always,,,and S arah Brown is BY FAR 'the' best vocalist ever selected by Bryan Ferry->I heard "he" hand picks his vocalists from local talent-if so VERY GOOD choice...
Thank you. Andy needs to come back. It was Andy's playing on this song on the live album that put him in the #my favorite drummers right behind Mick Fleetwood
Wow. As a drummer I would not put Andy and Mick in the same sentence. To each his own (and I'm not knocking you or anything), but Andy really introduced Avant Garde - Jazz fusion to mainstream drumming in the 70s/80s. Mick likes to offbeat drum, but has really not brought anything new to the drumming world. Interesting.
Perhaps you are only familiar with Mick Fleetwood's pop stuff? Perhaps you could give the Live album a listen so you could see how Mick can control and contour a song in much the same way Andy does. Then maybe you should check out Mick's solo album The Visitor. Mick has the ability to drive a song like few others. Mick is truly a driving force when it comes to drumming. Always clean, always on target, always driving. There is a reason Peter green chose Mick for the job in Fleetwood Mac.
Yeah, he kinda tries using Andy's jazz / Avant Garde style to keep the song honest. But he does his own thing too, which I don't think hurts the song.
It was 1983. I was sitting across the table from the woman I loved in a little known Smokey club in downtown Vancouver, B.C. I stared into her eyes as this song was blasting through the speakers. We said good bye to each other that night, never to be lovers again. I love this song.
This song holds such deep meaning too me..I play it over and over..absolutely amazing. Roxy Music is jazz..rock..classical...it's the entire package and Bryan Ferry is extremely gifted. I had my first real crush on Ferry back in 85 and he still mesmerizes me. Eno and Ferry together in the early days were absolutely incredible.
Roxy music fused all those genres together and mainstreamed Avant Garde music (at times the musicians are all going in their own jazzy direction only to meet together again at certain points during the song). Few bands have taken up the torch to continue this, which is why I still listen to Roxy after 30 years.
As for your lost love . . . sorry. Perhaps one day under that willow tree . . .
@mysticalwind72 BRYAN FERRY IS TRULY EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMER, MUCH LIKE PETER GABRIEL, MANY DIFFERENT STYLES OF MUSIC AND GREAT BACKING BAND BEHIND BOTH OF THEM. NEED MORE MUSICIANS AND ARTISTS LIKE THEM BUT ALAS, THEY DON'T GROW ON TREES
@mysticalwind72 ALWAYS GOOD TO WATCH A VIDEO WITH GIFTED MUSICIANS AND A WELL WRITTEN SONG, AND BRYAN FERRY MADE MANY OF THEM, HE PUT A LOT OF FEELING INTO HIS PERFORMANCES, WHETHER IT WAS SINGING OR PLAYING KEYBOARDS, LOVE THIS PIANO SOLO
@mysticalwind72 SO ENJOYABLE TO WATCH PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS AT THEIR FINEST, PHIL MANZANERA AND CHRIS SPEDDING ON GUITARS, AND SARAH BROWN AND BRYAN FERRY ON VOCALS, WHO ALSO PLAYS A BEAUTIFUL PIANO ON THIS TRACK.
@mysticalwind72 - I had a huge crush on Bryan as well. I was 18-19 yrs old in 1985 and I saw Roxy Music in concert in ~1981 in Los Angeles. He was flawless and completely captivating. The whole audience was under his spell and the concert ended too quickly because we were all so completely absorbed in it.
There is someone out there unfortunately I can no longer talk with but if there were ever any song or lyrics that I would want him to hear... this is it and google the lyrics and keep reading them. This sums it all up. Wherever he is I am thinking of him.
That is such an utterly beautiful song, One of Bryans Ferry's very best, but it was perfect as it was, I don't think it needed Sarah Brown's dark side of the moon type vocals added
People, listen to the words to this song. The most beautiful love song written since "Something" by George Harrison. "Have you ever wondered, more than words can say?" Then the line: "Do you know the meaning of goodbye?" Can any of us really answer these questions? God, those are haunting lyrics. Look in this video for Sarah Brown (ending vocals, a legend in our time) and Julia Thornton (blonde in blue dress on percussion). Google Julia's website: she's a world class harpist: WOW!
Chris Spedding is not a part of Roxy Music, Bryan..get Eno back son... you will get some credibility back and a bit of money....the thrill of it all!!!
Continues to astonish - as does this entire album.
