My second-favorite melodeath band after At The Gates. Stanne's voice is so expressive, love this band. I'm kinda tired of melodeath at the moment but I just have to reach for the classics like ATG, DT, old In Flames, Eucharist, etc. to be reminded why I liked it in the first place.

Cladinshadowz. I am well aware that In Flames is melodic metal. However, you can listen to some of their very old material - like Clad in Shadows from Lunar Strain & definitely hear that it has a bit of a black metal quality to it. That is my opinion anyway.

You people who think that the conversation should be limited to only the band in the video are ridiculous. People are going to CONVERSE & make references to other metal bands. Calling In Flames, "emocore" is damn stupid too.

I love every single In Flames album, problem with the new one is that there are good bits in there, and some of the songs are fantastic... but you can only hear that if you aren't expecting In Flamesy music.

One of my band mates loves it though & I believe he said it's his favorite album from them; so to each his own. (I own every In Flames album & will never stop buying them)

You say that, I personally think In Flames's style has changed just a little bit with each album. The only 2 discs they have released that I think sound exactly the same style wise are Lunar Strain and Subterranean.

The jester race and whoracle are also similar... But their sounds always changed because they modified their guitar/bass tuning. By example, now they're playing in Drop A, so their tones are lower than before. They add a lot of special effects that make new atmosphere too...

I have always thought Whoracle a more considered album than the Jester Race. The jester race was like a raw idea when they took melodeth and thought... aha look what we can do here. With Whoracle, they refined it more and put more mature concepts behind it. Well thats what i think anyway. Btw, they play in drop A# now, not drop A.

The difference lays in when any of this bands starter their career. Also scene where it comes from.

Dark Tranquility started as part of the Melodic Death Metal scene.

In the same moment there is something like new wave of melodic death metal which came mainly from hardcore scene, bands such as Heaven Shall Burn and many others, very At the gatish I'd say.

This are considered metal core or just hard core-they take their sound from the Swedish death metal scene in the early 90's.

Projector is my absolute favorite metal album, of all bands.

The Growl AND clean vocals on it are absolutely unparalleled, and the guitar and drum work is amazing, hopefully they really feature his clean vocals again.
