  • 240p HD <3

  • big up to mala for the link and dub music :)

  • In nowadays everyone can mix like that in fl studio

  • @druid80lvl But you can't achieve that "mid-fi" tape saturated sound, the authentic tape echo & spring reverbs...

  • @illumination2006 there is lot of echo settings & reverb effects in that kinda programs like fl, bro =) But yeah, Im truly love that origins

  • @druid80lvl Yes there are but yet it's light years away from sounding authentic, because it's sterile and perfect stabile digital sound and/or unplesant digital distortion. Oh and I'm not dissing FL, I'm FL user from version 3 till now, but still nothing beats my analog delay & original spring reverb tank...

  • Any one know what kind of mixing board and/or gear he's using in this video? Looks like 4 track reel to reel on his left

  • @aleaney He used a MCI 12 channel mixing board that was Tubby's from Treasure Isle. The reverb is a Fisher SpaceXpander spring reverb, the delay is a tape delay, probably roland space echo or an echoplex.

  • GOD DAMN!!!!!

  • @Risccardo

    ╚►CRUSHIAL...☆...SEEN!

  • The man in the cap standing behind Prince Jammy at 1:34 is NOT Scientist. All you guy's posting this wrong information need your eyes checked out. That person is actually PUG CHEMIST or he's otherwise known as PUG the DUB CHEMIST. He was one of King Tubby's young pupils from the late 70s mixing pure Dub Plates for sounds systems and nothing else. He is the brother of another Tubby's enginner called PEEGO who was on board during the Tubby's digital era between 1985 to 89. This is FACT.

  • What kind of mixer is he using?

  • @CercleEnCercle King Tubby Special!!!

  • Bunny Lee was getting down with the dub

  • hey whats the name of this full documentary....need to get it

  • what's the first sound thx

  • Bunny got the NUMBER #1 SKANK!!!!

  • the smoking chalice brought in at the end must have been done for the film crew's benefit - Tubby forbade the smoking of anything in the studio, only Bunny Lee could have gotten away with allowing that to happen!

  • @blakbeltjonez Scientist dispels that rumor in the insert of his "Portraits" album; while Tubby did not smoke ganja himself, he did not ban it in his studio. As demonstrated here, the smoke in Tubby's studio could get so thick you could barely see!

The chalice was probably for the camera's benefit, but I've heard that it was commonplace to use it to celebrate a good recording.

  • who needs ketamine to skank when we got jammy

  • that johnny clarke beat got me dancing also!. Dammn that beat is so Sick!!..

    rip dread at the control!!..

  • Honesty in the music is the key.

  • I HOPE ANYONE WATCHING THIS 2.41 WIL SEE WHY DANCING IS SO IMPORTANT OUT OUR JAMAICAN MUSIC

  • real deep grass roots....yeahhhh

  • 2:12 song name ??? please :)

  • @Czesio213 : Read above in the comments, all track names are there, bless. Johnny Clarke - Enter his gates and Prince Jammy - Jailhouse rock. You can find both tracks on albums by The Scientist as well.

  • Scientist was a teenager when he began to mix dubs and was the apprentice to King Tubby, Jammy and Lee, he is at 2:40 ( as confirmed to me by Bunny Lee himself ) I am quite sure it is Cedric Myton in the red vest

  • Thats incorrect the young man in the jumper is David Lee aka Sugar Lee he is one of Bunny son. Scientist was a studio engineer, however he was not in that picture

  • No that is not scientist at 1:35, scientist is seen at 2:40 - wearing the blue dungarees skanking alongside Bunny and the dread in the red vest who looks like Cedric Myton from the Congoes

  • nope that is david lee one of his 1st sons my father.. my dad was never known as scientist.. SORRY GET IT RIGHT THATS MY DADDY :)

  • yes it is Scientist at 1:50 and its not cedric myton its Gold, as in Don Carlos and Gold...

i know for a fact that cat is Scientist too cuz he's still alive and well and running the soundboard at the dub club out here in los angeles...

  • awesome clip!

  • Wow - this captures the essence of dub reggae!

Is Scientist the guy in the overalls?

  • no, hes not the one in overalls...

he's the really really dark guy with the white collar shirt and porkpie hat. he's the one sparking the chalice at the very end.

  • Man. I could watch this all day.

Real music is when you feel you're there. Their rhythms and vibe are timeless.

    Brilliant.

  • Scientissy on SmoG MiX ▬▬▼~~"""

  • pfs, this is incredible!!!!!!! i love this guys :)))

  • been a trip for me lately see scientist live n direct out at dub club in la! doin the same stuff on the board that jammy is in this clip. sick!!

  • I saw Scientist in San Francisco when he was touring with U-Roy. He had the King Tubby engineer personality, setting up his own wires like a roadie. He tested his soundboard on the top 40 they play before concerts - groups like Barenaked Ladies were thrown into the echo chamber and sent to Mars.

  • 1:49

  • "NUMBER ONE STAR, NUMBER ONE"

  • jammy's playing the mixing board like an instrument is amazing!

  • whats the song called where bunny lee starts skanking? anyone know???

  • It's a dub version of "None Shall Escape the Judgement". It was a mega blockbuster hit for Johnnie Clarke. It was released around 1973. Many versions of this song have been released including "None Shall Escape the Gun Court", also recorded by Johnnie Clarke, and Jah Jah Dub....a truly HARD version.

  • What clip is this from?? Does anyone have the full version.

  • The clip is from a documentary called "Deep Roots Music" narrated by Mikey Dread. It was never released, and was broadcast on Channel 4 in England back in the 1980s. I found this was posted on "usenet" several months ago in DVD format, which was ripped from VHS.

  • cheers mate, thanks for the info.

  • You can actually buy a 2x DVD set. I've just ordered mine. Hopefully should be here soon!

  • where from guy??

  • Amazon has them. "Deep Roots Music" there are 3 DVD's, or 2 "parts" per DVD, making 6 parts in total. The first DVD is about the history of Reggae, the 2nd DVD is the Black Ark Studio story with Lee Perry, and the 3rd DVD talks about the social, political and economical issues associated with reggae music and jamaica and the world.

  • Thankyou very much for the info!!!

  • Where can I find a good classic dub mix? With some foundation riddims and good mixing and effects? Any recommendations for mixes not single artist CD but a DJ mix.

  • i highly reccommend Bill Laswell's Trojan Dub Massive mix!

  • The first track he's playing was also released on the "Prince Jammy Destroys The Invaders" album in 1982, the track was named "Conspiracy On Neptune"

  • yea 2nd track is BANANAS!!

  • Its the riff/dub to None Shall Escape The Judgement (Johnny Clarke)

  • Joshua Words, Foreman vs Frazier

  • What year is this?

  • 1984 i think.

  • Doc was filmed in 1977

  • No way was that filmed in 1977. The rhythms/production is late 1981/early 1982. This is when the Roots Radics were dominating.... '77 was the "steppers" style (Sly and Robbie aka Aggrovators).
