Actually no. It was both of them. I would suggest you actually look up the song's entry on Wikipedia if you do not believe me. Irons' voice gave out during the song recording, so Cummings took over the second, and far more bombastic, half.
Impossible. Jeromy Irons doesn't actually sing the whole of this song. He starts off but halfway through, someone else takes over. The voices blend so seamlessly that it really is very hard to tell.
@Bushflare Wow!!! Who is it.. aah sorry my english is not verry good... :) Verry nice to read it is someone else.. I just hear Jeremy Iron.. There is a look a like in the world;) However i like it!!:D
Jim Cummings. Does his name ring a bell? Well it damn well should. He has played over 100 different voice roles and most of them you will remember if you saw them. Lion King, Little Mermaid, Sonic, Batman, CN:KND, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Dexter's Laboratory, Gargoyles, Freakazoid, Winnie the Pooh, Goof Troop, Jackie Chan Adventures, Aladdin, The Mask, Tarzan, Tazmanian Devil, Captain Caveman, The Simpsons, Scooby Doo, Star Wars. Damn it he is EVERYWHERE! Look him up on wikipedia.
@Bushflare hahahahaha, DAMN i know Jim Cummings ofcourse!! Hahah pfieeuw;) But just his voice.. I just dont hear its him!!:) But know i know:) THANKS!! Hahaha
@Bushflare Oh i missed that, I was just saying where the voice change between Jeremy Irons and Jim Cummings was so i thought u were mocking me... though I did recognize the quote
@princessofdarkness29 I love Jeremy Irons he was awesome as Scar in the movie! The Lion King is an awesome movie and I love the stage adaptaion of the movie my mother and I have tickets to see The Lion King on tour for our second time I am very excited for my second time The Lion King is one of my favorite Broadway musicals and Disney films!
You're mostly correct, with the exception that this is actually Jim Cummings voice. Jeremy Irons threw out his voice while attempting to sing the line, "You won't get a sniff without me!"
@hjtzver From what i heard Jeremy irons voice broke at "you wont get a sniff out of me" and a voice actor named Jim Cummings did the rest of the song.
This is both the version used on Broadway, and the one recorded using the original Lion King (movie) cast. The original version of the song (in the film) had the prologue, but that idea was scrapped. However, a recording of the original version had already been made, and was used in the soundtrack. But the Broadway version also has the prologue. So this is the Broadway version, and it was recorded by the original cast of the Lion King.
Whether or not this is the Broadway version, it sure as hell ain't the movie version. Listen to the hyenas at the very end when they say "Yes, our teeth and ambitions are bared." It's different.
What they probably did was take Irons' original voice recording and put it over the new chorus so they didn't have to make him sing it again.
However, I know for a fact that Jeremy Irons does not play Scar in the stage musical, so that's rather odd.
Hey everyone, I'm playing Scar in the Lion King Musical soon. I'm preparing my song basing on the 2 versions, but which do you think is better? the movie or the musical? I need some help with this cause the movie's has a great voice and intention, but the musical's is more for the dramatic interpretation I think. I'm open to any suggestion!!
@RAFE189 i say the musical version. you want dramatic so you can show off your voice and acting skills. then when people hear you they'll all say, "wow he's wonderful! a great voice and great acting skills!" good luck in the play!!!
This is sooooo impressive! His voice sounds JUST like the disney movie. Broadway actors r amazing!!!!! :-D This has got to b one of my most favorite musicals
This sounds so much like the movie version, especially the hyena's voices... (but DON'T worry, I believe that it is the broadway version). Will anyone hurt me if I say I like the other version (with the other actor that plays Scar, not up on their names) better? :/
This one is still great though, I listen to both versions equally. I bet it's just freaking AMAZING to actually see the musical.
this is truly an impressive composition. You can tell the classics from the newer disney stuff because you can listen to them when you're older and appreciate them on a whole other level.
it is amazing!! almost identictal to Jermey Irons' version on the animated video - it sounds soo much like him, lol especially the "tip-toing nearer" and "tenacity scamming" etc etc
This was my favorite "The Lion King" song as a child! (Well, it still is =) ) When I was three-years-old I knew all the lyrics and would walk around the house singing it as loud as I could!
@Mayzinegrace the only similarities between the two are the really main themes that the bad guy is the king's brother who kills the king and thus takes his place, and the young prince eventually kills his uncle and retakes the throne. But the PLOTLINE of HOW these events occurs is COMPLETELY different.
@Mayzinegrace 1) in Hamlet we never know hamlet's father 2) simba's not a whiny ass bitch who just sits around like an emo kid 3) SPOILER they both die in Hamlet at the end. The characters themselves, their motives, their personalitiies are entirely different
Some tosser said that this ripped off the story of Hamlet and I thought "No stop thinking you know it all because you take little snipets! Idiot!" This is an amazing story and it deserves its credit to remain.
no its not, he never has this dialouge at the begining in the movie, and the words are different in both versions. trust me, i watched the film this morning for a school essay
The only problem I have with the Broadway Scar is that he's too quiet in certain spots where he's supposed to be loud and proclaiming. He gets stronger in the middle of the song, but the first couple of minutes are really rather quiet, like when he says "No you fools, we're going to kill him", the second half is supposed to be more emphasized (And yes, I've seen the Broadway production three times now, and I still love it all. Just putting out my opinion....all hail TLK!)
um carlitos you obviously have no damn idea what you are talking about, think before you post -_-. Actually, everyone dies at the end of Hamlet, it's a tragedy. If "The Lion King" resembles any of Shakespeare's plays, it's "Henry IV part I".
As for the so-called "plagiarism" some people go on about, they should all read Carl Jung's "Man And His Symbols".
