  • Once I'll lose my virginity, Blue Bell Known would be my soundtrack while doing it.

  • I used to go out with a girl named Carolyn. She had fingers.

  • That there is one fucking amazing voice. I'm not a lyrical kindda guy - but this is just stunning.

  • Elizabeth has an incredible voice, total vocal control and one in a billion and that's not forgetting the rest of the band who are awesome musical craftsmen. I sometimes wonder why the hell we bother embarassing ourselves by entering the eurovision song contest when we have such a rich musical heritage behind us, with us and in front of us

  • Cuando la escuchas, te dan ganas de reir y llorar a la vez. Es como el canto de un pájaro que quiere ser libre.

When you hear it, you want to laugh an cry at the same time. It is like the bird's song in a jail.

  • this song is amazing it gives you a good to be alive feeling

  • Also...... Give a listen to This Mortal Coil (CT are part of this assemble) if you haven't already.... And Dead Can Dance.....a number of good bands are on the 4ad label

  • I first saw CT in Dundee in 85 and again in 93 in Boston.....yep, best band of all time.

I have circa 4G of their material including live stuff and rarities, so if anyone's interested, contact me on Andrew.Kelly@gmail.com

  • I get an erection every time I hear this song. I have one now.

  • @Atlanticcmsi *highfive*

  • I have been searching this song for about 12 years but i couldn't know the title. Last year I heard it casually on the radio and that moment I felt my life was complete.

  • Aye, they are bonkers. But still nice.

  • No, she is not blind

  • Is she blind?

  • Though I love this song I still can't give it more points than to the 9 other songs of the album.

  • is she blind?

  • my dad pulled out a few records from the attic that he thought i should listen to, and blue bell knoll was one of them. what a lovely album this is, her voice is entrancing

  • @maggsayy Your dad has good taste

  • Blue Bell Knoll was an awesome album, love these guys.

  • weirdess song ever

  • Essential Cocteau Twins (FYI Eanderthal):

    Heaven or Las Vegas

    Four Calendar Cafe

    Milk and Kisses

    Treasure

    Victorialand

    Blue Bell Knoll

    . . . in that order.

  • I love it when people try to figure out the lyrics to Cocteau Twins songs. It's impossible to figure them out because Elizabeth Fraser was a master at singing non-verbal lyrics. It's some of the most beautiful music in the world, but the lyrics are impossible to figure out - and, for me, that is what makes this band stand out from all of the rest.

  • jak Liz śpiewa te swoje trrrraa :) to coś mnie sie porrrusza... ta muza to totalny odlot

  • One of my top 5 CT songs for sure. This song always makes me want to twirl around and around. As much as I've listened to the CT's I never knew she was speaking ENGLISH and I NEVER CARED!!! :)

  • my truth, iceblink luck, lazy calm, another day, when mama was moth bluebeard,

oil of angels, fluffy tufts, five ten fiftyfold, the thinner the air, song to the siren,

feet-like fins, essence mizake the mizan how to bring a blush to the snow

[try i and see[ or hear]]

  • such a beautiful somg.

  • I'm a right old misanthrope, but this 3 minutes always makes me feel proud to be part of the human race.

  • @slamfortica

Amen brother. I hate it when overwhelming beauty like this forces me to reconsider my misanthropy.

  • god what a goddess. This is one of the most haunting songs I've ever heard.

  • ANDY OF SANDWICH KENT: Still enjoying this??? Jacqui

  • Seeing the reel t reel on the video takes me back to one of their first big gigs, Usher hall in Edinburgh 10th/Dec/84 we were all so chuffed to see them playing a big venue like that. We wouldn't let them leave and demanded an encore which meant them having to rewind the reel t reel which caused all sorts of problems, but they got there, it was such a thrill to see them for the first time back then, ah happy days. Paddy x

  • I had the chance to see these guys when I was at OSU in the early 90's and had to work. I wish now that I called in sick. Now in my 40's, they are still one of my favorite bands.

  • @Adamodevadam That is the most beautiful and greatest compliment one could give to one of the most beautiful and greatest dreampop bands to ever grace this planet.

  • you can just see in her eyes, she's tapping into deep places. woman is a conduit.

  • she must be an rh neg

  • In the eighties I was in high school just wanting to bone chicks. Then I saw her and heard her voice and I fell in love.

  • Such striking eyes she has...

  • She is so delightfully cute when she sings. Her voice is angelic.

  • goose bumps all over my body. Well known feeling since the eighties. Behind the iron curtain in Poland, this music was giving us the great hope.

  • She does the most amazing things with her voice.

  • Bob on.

  • these words are gut wrenching -painful and beautiful together sung by a wonder.

  • Brilliant song

  • Treasure... Voice of angel....

  • Fuhhhh still: Goosebumps on top of goosebumps! (and I am a metalhead)

  • I heard this song in 88 when I was only 12 and was instantly transfixed.Never really knew the words, but when the song is this impeccable does it really matter??A sensational example of feelings that are literally beyond words..the Cocteau Twins rock harder than ANY band today, and yes, that's really saying something....

  • I've just got into this band. what album or songs would you diehards recommend?

  • @SuperMEanderthal Blue bell knoll, Heaven or Las Vegas, Milk & Kisses, Treasure, Four Calender Cafe.

For me, those are the absolute must haves of the Cocteau Twins.

I love Garlands too, but i don't think it's for everyone.

  • @justcallmejoe What he/she (?) said. You can't go wrong with those first three. Welcome to the club. :)

  • @justcallmejoe uuuumm! Victorialand.

  • @Bestfosho Victorialand is an extreme side of the Cocteau twins.

A different extreme from Garlands for example.

    Neither are for everyone.

  • @justcallmejoe Good call; Totally agree!

  • @SuperMEanderthal

Amelia from Treasure, Oomingmak & Little Spacey from Victorialand, & If you have not heard Song to the Siren yet by This Mortal Coil (Elizabeth Fraser on vocals again, then you have a wonderful surprise in wait....

  • @SuperMEanderthal

Treasure is generally the fan favourite; I'd say their best albums are Treasure, Blue Bell Knoll, and Head Over Heels.

  • @SuperMEanderthal The best for a lazy day and relaxing has got to be Victorialand(1986).

  • @SuperMEanderthal I prefer the early darker stuff: Garlands, Head Over Heels, and Treasure.

  • @SuperMEanderthal Yeah don't forget Victorialand. Find the stuff that is absolutely hypnotic.

  • @SuperMEanderthal Songs : Cherry colored funk, Cherry Colored funk(Otherness version), Iceblink luck, Pur, Treasure hiding, Pandora, Amelia, Serpenkskirt, Perhaps Some Other Aeon, Little spacey, Fotzepolitic, For Phoebe still a baby, Violoaine, Blue bell knoll,Blind dumb deaf, Loves easy tears, Tishbite, Seekers who are lovers, Frou frou foxes in Midsummer fires, Beatrix, Pearly dew-drops dropsUps, Heaven or Las Vegas, A kissed out red floatboat, Know who you are at every age,

  • @justcallmejoe you forgot their version of Song to the Siren by Tim Buckley. its INCREDIBLE.

  • @SuperMEanderthal all of em.

  • @SuperMEanderthal listen to heaven or las vegas best album ever recorded and four calender cafe.

  • @SuperMEanderthal victorialand is a masterpiece

  • @SuperMEanderthal Check out Massive Attack - teardrop (has elizabeth fraser on vox)

Cocteau Twins still give me shivers. Absolutely amazing forever timeless

  • @SuperMEanderthal You should get all of their EPs; they have released many. A lot of that work is on the more experimental side from their LPs.

  • @SuperMEanderthal I started out with a cassette with Treasure on one side and Blue Bell Knoll on the other. I "got" Treasure sooner, but BBK held up to more repeat listens. Later, I got all the other studio albums. The gothier first two albums grow on you more and more, but the last two (Four Calendar Cafe and Milk and Kisses) are somewhat disappointing compared to the middle four albums.

  • @SuperMEanderthal

The Spangle Maker, -LOUD- through great headphones!

  • @SuperMEanderthal all of em! victorialand, blue bell knoll,.. heaven or las vegas and treasure are hard to top though..but then theres garlands..the pink opaque- the box set on cd is a good start (sorry this is 21st C. ..erm, bundled on itunes for $10- with my bloody valentine's back catalogue- if you were impossibly lucky perhaps).

  • @SuperMEanderthal The Pink Opaque if you can get it!

  • @SuperMEanderthal key cocteau songs: Carolyn's Fingers(obviously) Sugar Hiccup, Lorelei, SummerHead, Heaven or Las Vegas and Love's Easy Tears. In fact if you can find the whole Love's Easy Tears 4 song EP it's all pretty good.

  • @SuperMEanderthal start with Treasure,as this is the ultimate sample of the possibilities and imagination and then continue your journey

  • @SuperMEanderthal LUSH, Caterwaul, Red House Painters, A LOT of earlier 4AD artists...

  • @SuperMEanderthal Summerhead! :)

  • @SuperMEanderthal Blue Bell Knoll for sure.

  • Heaven or las vegas!! Fotzepolitic best song for me!!

  • @SuperMEanderthal pink opaque

  • Still my favorite song to wake up to...

  • Timeless. Classic. To the few haters: Get a pulse. Get a clue. This is real music.

  • Songs from a beautiful parallel world.

  • This and Heaven or Las Vegas are the best.

  • So good. I can never decide whether this or Aikea Guinea is how heaven must sound like.

    Probably both!

  • have any of you people noticed something about Cocteau Twins. in all the clips that I have seen of this magnificent band - no one has said anything negative about them. Simply put, it's because there is nothing negative to say! Every song, every album, every compilation, every solo piece is more perfect than the other. They just add a little something extra in every song that allows you to feel familiar yet you experience something completely different. I never tire of their music.

  • @22Phantasm I think that might be due to pricks being totally unaware of the existence of Cocteau Twins. So gladly, bless them.

  • Love in the form of sound. Cocteau Twins music is on such a higher level, than most music , you either feel it or you don't. It would be difficult to turn someone onto it, you kinda have to discover it , have it catch your attention and want to hear more. For the true music lover and those who appreciate unique and inspired aural"Treasure".

  • When the earth collapses, this song would prove humankind had something worthy.

  • @justcallmejoe

Congrats on gleaning the lyrics for this song from The Greatest Lp ever made, you must be a dream whisperer.

This is, and has always been, an incredible record...and what with Beach House et al, the Cocteau influence goes on.

  • i want to crawl inside her voice and live in it

  • this is universally amazing :3 anyone can listen and get it... because the lyrics have no language... unless gibberish is a language.

  • She has an amazing voice

  • A musicalidade do Cocteau Twins é de impressionar qualquer um, com essa musica voce fecha os olhos e conversa com DEUS, por onde andará Elizabeth Fraser?

  • beautiful

  • The best song ever ! There will never be anything better

  • @Georgijus36 Not even Pandora ?

  • @Georgijus36 hahah yah that might be a little much. ;P

  • 60 pessoas gostam de Restart

  • OMG this is fucking awesome !!!!!!

  • Wish Elizabeth would make something new. Have all her brilliant music, unique. X

  • sweet brilliance...................

  • best women voice of the world

  • @MichaelHowrie Who the hell is Cecily ?!

  • the glossalalia (unintelligible lyrics)that she uses takes you beyond the meaning of the lyrics and into the true texture and feeling of the music.who else can do this.

  • @rollotomassi5183 sigur ros do the same thing

  • kate bush and tori amos have shown glimpses of her talent, but noone does it like fraser.anyone ignorant of fraser is ignorant of the modern music genius of our time.

  • Elisabeth Fraser, the greatest vocalist of all time period.Noone will ever compare to her.

  • Enjoy this - because we will never see their like's again!

  • Those were the days. Used to listen to this all the time when i was growing up in Edinburgh. I was a teenager with a tortured mind, full of angst and lacking direction. This song about sums it all up.

  • This song was my first Cocteau experience as well. I hate to say it, but I never knew she was singing in English. Oops.

  • She had me on my knees in just her first two arpeggios! Wonderful!!

  • Wonderful .The sheer beauty of their music leaves me speechless!

  • Eliiiiiiizzzzzzzabeth where rrrrrrrrrr uuuuuuuuuuuu???? God love love love...

  • @TheClarenceter Haha, okay...?

  • y cada vez que lo escucho y la veo, me encanta mas! llega a notas que ni percibimos esta mujer

  • First thing I ever heard from them- and still one of the best songs I've heard in a long time going on like- at least 6 years.

  • like bird flight

  • gorgeousness

  • this song is truely beautiful.

  • This IS THE SONG that got me into them. I first heard them here in Los Angeles on KROQ radio station and....that was it. I fell in LOVE with them :)

  • ...Very much Cocteau like, listen to "Cylons In Love" by Bent. You'll probably like it. Check it out...

  • I long for a solo album. Pls Liz

  • What a great song.....now if only I could understand what they're saying

  • why do you need to know the lyrics .

  • @twins8956 why not?

  • yeah some of the live stuff sometimes just sounds like pure yelping..but the studio stuff is perfect..except I saw a show in chicago and I ened up fricken crying like a baby left at the bus stop it was so perfect..

  • Elizabeth I love you and your voice.

  • Is Kate Bush hiding behind her???

  • @Emereatshoney

    Better then Kate.

  • @miguelsamara they are both wierd and lovely, and i love them both. impossible to me to say which one is better. they are two different (and so alike). They both had lot of to say.

  • If you love the Cocteau Twins, try out "School of 7 Bells" and their outstanding single "Windstorm" You can watch the official video on here. But let's be clear, Cocteau's ARE the best band EVER!!!

  • Wow! Great song and video! I like it! Elizabeth rulez!

  • ich liebe dieses video, seit ich ihn das erste mal gesehen habe... einfach überirdisch...

  • @MrsAstrohexe Grüße aus Arizona USA Kameradin

  • Celtic shoegaze. What a combo.

  • she must have an extraordinary memory that allows her to remember all the made-up words of her songs...

  • @frt god! i wondered, i've heard some of her live CRAP because i always thought her studio stuff was SINGLE issue, no repeats such that SHE can't even cover herself... extremely creative and whimsical flights of lyrical fancy and sound effect... she is one of the most uniquely talents vocalists i've ever heard, terribly artsy to the point of making a live tour quite difficult, but you say she pulled it off? wow! i know she varied things poorly live, many times... studio is almost always better

  • Timeless, yes?

  • Sweet Elisabeth. I so love Cocteau Twins.

  • @lukasiduo

Oh you so do do you

  • amazing song!! If you like this, I think you will like danish act Inouwee with the song "My closet in your heart"

  • I heard this on a college radio station in Pittsburgh when I was 14 years old...and I fell in love with this band. Still in love over 20 years later...

  • Now I understand why I dig on this band. Totally totally awesome and shit. It really is totally marvelous. You couldn't compare this attempt at vocal gymnastics to any other for this is exceptional. This has to be one of the best examples of independent music I have heard. It really is effulgent (meaning brilliant) in a really wonderful way actually.

  • @windigo44 gymnastics indeed! quite!

  • The Eyes Have it

  • @sandiegorandolph she pierced me with them at the lyceum in 84, singing lorelei. Im 50 now still mesmerised and somehow alwys better after listening to her perfect voice. Music is life.xxxx

  • @jezkaz123 an exgirlfriend turned me on to the music. twas a beautiful day in san diego and heaven or las vegas was the first song i had ever heard. I have let some guys i grew up with who happen to be black like myself listen to it and they were surprised that they could like it. music has no color, only love

  • fell in love with this song ...

  • ...................lol

  • she looks so sweet and vulnerable

  • voice of angel....

  • Maravilhosa!!!!!

  • So beautiful, I'd be happy for this to be played at my funeral.

Not that I'm in a hurry or anything!

  • I love this music!

    :X:X:X:X

  • still as f-ing brilliant as ever. never has a band made me a happier more joyous person than the cocteau twins. the voice the face the eyes of an angel.

  • man I LOVE this song!!! Was SO happy when I figured it out of bass and was SO happy when I saw them live and realized just how amazing a bass player he is!

  • man I LOVAE this song!!! Was SO happy when I figured it out of bass and was SO happy when I saw them live and realized just how amazing a bass player he is!

  • man I LOVAE this song!!!

  • I saw the Cocteau Twins in the 80's. I never cried so much at a concert before to hear Elizabeth Fraser sing..

  • @MrChoronzon333 Saw them too in Toronto in 1991 (I think) at Massey Hall. I've seen many good concerts but this one was not only great but beautiful to listen to. The person seated beside me allowed me to use her binoculars. Elizabeth Fraser's singing right up close was simply astonishing.

  • Love these guys! Elizabeth said in an interview that sometimes she has no idea what she is singing...haha. Still great. Very original.

  • Still gorgeous........

  • unique and totally blows me away.

  • omg, how she can remember her text if it doesn't have actually words? :)

    she's beyond incredible :)

  • When music is able to"move" us, it is a profound experience. It's nice to know others feel similar things, that are difficult to define with words.I think we all owe Cocteau Twins a huge thanks for being able to exspress feelings we have, that can't be described or accurately related, other than through the sharing and love of this music .We are kindred spirits.

  • This band's bright guitar sound is the perfect compliment to her angelic voice.

  • ja, 12heidica, u re rigt...it s somethig u cannot share with everyone...sometimes it happened that some people near me didn t appreciate it, and i felt like hurted...)

  • Wow, I can't believe how good this makes me feel , still, after all these years.: )

  • Many thanks for uploading, my favourite cocteau track, would love to get a sound like Robin's.. all this music is timeless :)

  • depressions has anger.....this is a new level.... pure resignation. halleluja.....

  • depressions has anger.....this is a new level.... pure resignation. halleluja.....

  • i love being the weird girl like liz

  • Mysterious, just freaking Mysterious :-)

  • Ellizabeth Fraser you have a magical voice¡ i Love with all my heart to Cocteau Twins¡

  • Speechless! Dumbfounded! Totally captivated with the Goddess Elizabeth!

  • 48 people have an empty heart

  • If Lady Gaga was in the same room as Elizabeth then she (Gaga) would take 2 steps backwards

  • She gives so much, that I am not able to take this plenty.

  • I hate when someone makes a statement about an artist being "underrated" back in the day because it simply isn't true. You had a lot of amazing talent back then, from Kate Bush to the Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie and the Banshees to The Smiths - just to name a few. None were underrated. It may seem that way now, considering how much they all worked their asses off... and it was hard work. They were all pioneers, but it's also a tragic shame to see how much music has deteriorated in today's world.

  • @MisterBlue24 Well said. Most of todays music is crap...
