I saw them as an opening act in 1981. They opened up for Ozzy during his Blizzard of OZ tour. I also go to see Randy Rhoads play! Classic all the way around!
These guys are great live. They sound very close to the album version showing they don't use stupid ass electronics to help perfect it like musical artists these days. I know that going live on stage is not about sounding like the album but i was just pointing that out. Oh, and joe kinda sounds similiar to ac/dc's singer in this song. Show's that jow has a good vocal range.
Yes! I remember this well from when I was a freshman in high school. Saw the concert in Detroit. Great song to start the concert with - sweet mellow buildup then goes into a hard rockin song. Of course the video can't capure my experience - main floor, 5th row center. The pyro explosion was much more intense than what you see on screen. The base and volume were unreal. The arena was pitch black until the pyro explosions and song kicked in. Just awesome!
Opera has been using an "Overture" for hundreds of years as an intro....leps hardly groundbreaking. Rainbow using the "Over the rainbow" intro in the 70's plus countless others too. Take em for what they are....a good rock band. Don't forget who produced their most popular stuff. Mutt Lange turned the fortunes of many a band. Including ACDC (is this why Joe sounds "a little bit" like Johnson? Leps never matched success of those Lange produced albums....same as ACDC.
The pre-recorded intro at this time was groundbreaking, early in this tour they actually played the intro live, but it was way more dramatic and cool with the pre-record first.
And look how many bands have done something similar since, everyone from QOTSA to Creed, even now rock bands love doing a pre-recorded intro of some kind, and it's all an influence from the Leps, best godamn rock band in history.
This is just proof of why Df Lpd got as big as they did. They in their prime here man. The whole band just kikn ass. No wonder they went totally huge after this. No way in hell does Je Elt sound like Brn Jnsn. You dreamin buddy. One of their best tracks too. Pyromania definately their best album. UntowGlebinGlaobinGlorbin
I love all their albums equally up until Slang. I mean those later songs are ok, but they just don't come close to the high energy impact of early Leppard.
I saw the beginning of this tour when they were opening for Billy Squier, and had never heard of them. 6 months later they were biggest band on the planet.
Joe Elliott sounding like Brian Johnson...it's a joke? Are you off your head? Have you already listened to "Hysteria"ou "Pyromania"? I can't imagine Johnson singing on these albums...
Hard to believe this was 25 years ago......this was a young and hungary Def Leppard!!! They would just rip your face off in a live situation.....very, very cool piece of film.
I love this song. Partly b/c of the verse "Your momma don't mind what your momma don't see" cause that was always my philosphy on life. Well, back at the time this concert was held anyway!LOL
I actually saw Motley Crue last year at Cruefeat, and Mick Mars was smoking. He didn't miss a single note. His guitar was WAY louder than any of the other bands played
His playing improved dramatically on the Girls album. I first saw them open up for Ozzy on the Shout at the Devil tour and they were all plastered so you can imagine how they sounded back then.
You r def gonna like the concert , they put on a great show & joe elliot is great w/ the crowd. Even though 25 years has passed , they r still one of the best bands out there.rock on !!
I'd have to say by the Hysteria tour, phil created his "sound". From Hysteria onwards his playing was pretty much precise, he doesn't usually freak out like in the earlier days.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That's why Vivian was brought into the band, to show Phil how to play lead without taking a dump on his guitar and the audience. He's definitely gotten much, much better over time.
Phil's signature sound, style, and band member seniority. General Joe would never have made such a dramatic change and relegated Phil to ryhthm. I have no disagreements with Phil at all. Great guitar play and awesome voice. His illness in this video was due to his youth, plus a nasty Van Halen virus going around in those days.
wow they really improved in the amount of time between 1983 and 1987.the in the round version blows the 83' version away!were did you find this footage?i'd like to have a copy.
My point about the "girlie rock" is self explanatory. It was music aimed at a particular audience; young girls! "Pour NO sugar on me," merely states how many male fans of the band felt when that particular song came out. I do like Def Leppard.
Well, pocostacos, thank you for referring to me as "stupid," even though your use of the English language leaves much to be desired. My taste is music is actually very eclectic. I appreciate the music of Johnny Cash, Astrud Gilberto, The Beatles, Edith Piaf, and Mozart. My point about the "girlie rock" is self explanatory. It was music aimed at a particular audience; young girls! "Pour NO sugar on me," was merely state how many male fans of the band felt when that particular song came out.
The `` Ladie Rock`` You talk about, Is called, Glam And IF you were not that stupid you could see that theres a big work on vocal and instrumental in THE Girlie ROCK, Well on that, I say that I hate all the people like you who just get off with metal, power metal, vampiro metal watever... CAn you admit theres talent in music you are not appreciate ?
Close your eyes & listen to this without looking at the video. Dude, the vocals sound like AC/DC! This song is pure metal - with no sugar poured on it. Please, Leppard, Pour NO sugar on me. THIS ROCKS, unlike some of the girlie rock they did later. Great band!
Why is Steve letting Phil do all the leads? I think the history of it is that Steve always felt his playing was inferior to Phil. I can understand that because Phil has some pretty wicked technique. But I've seen Steve shred just as well a few times live -- especially the solo at Red Rocks, Colo. on the Hysteria tour. Steve really could fly on the guitar. They just don't show it much.
I think its because steve does most leads on high n dry than phil. I think really that on pyromania they split in half the songs off the album, but most popular and most played, phil most of the time plays lead.
Phil didn't play on High N Dry. That was Pete Willis. Phil didn't come in until Pyromania, and even then only on some guitar parts. Pyromania was almost finished when Phil joined the band, he just re-recorded solos that were originally Petes.
Dude, I know he didn't, I'm talking about when they play live. Phil plays pete's parts, and Steve led most of them off High N Dry. I am also saying that steve and phil split leads in pyromania and within the songs themselves. And the most popular songs on pyromania, phil leads most of the time and takes solos. And also phil and steve rotate on lead, like photograph.
Apologies. Your comment didn't say "live" & using the phrase "on High N Dry" made it sound like you were talking about the album. And fot the record, I do agree with you, I wasn't arguing otherwise.
I love Phil Collen too. Do you want some pics of him I got from the concert in Columbus two weeks ago. We got fan club tix, and we were right up front. I got a high five from Joe Elliott
That one is actually an Ibanez Destroyer. My all-time favorite guitar as well! I don't know why he abandonded it, he used it exclusively the entire Pyromania tour.
they played all these songs fast because if was for this festival, all the other bands were heavy metal,so they played fast cuz it was a heavy metal audience, on this song they cant even play the guitar riffs completely cuz its just too fast
This was Def Leppard the lean mean rockin' machine. Before all the problems. Steve was still here. Rick had two arms.
