I'd like to mention that the UK is not currently on GMT. It is on British Summer Time: GMT+1. Likewise, the US East Coast is on Eastern Daylight Saving Time (EDT): EST+1. I think you mean your "local time" when you say "GMT", and "local time" on the East Coast of the US when you say "EST". The UK returns to GMT on Oct. 26 and the US returns to "standard" time on Nov. 2, so between these two dates there will be only 4 hours between the UK and the US East Coast instead of the usual 5 hours.
