Actually in Japan it's a common occurrence for Japanese youth's to dye their hair and wear contacts in order to stand out. If you actually watch an anime in Japanese and not dubbed in English, you'll notice that none of the characters have American names. In the few anime's that include American/European characters they usually stand out from all other characters usually by a broader or larger nose or other distinguishing characteristics. I highly doubt they hate their ethnicity.

I think white anime characters are easier to color, since they don't require much color, and on manga,white characters define a couple races, and you don't have to darken their skin.

Plus that, and us Americans keep paying Japan to make us more hentai.

@HeroOfYourMisery Well actualy, anime is based off of a western form of entertainment, you guessed it, CARTOONS! The japanese are effected heavily by our culture in the same way we are by them. The eyes on anime characters is from some of our earlier cartoons where the characters featured rather large eyes. Although anime started from our cartoons, it's more affected by desires to impove our image, in a way that you can see that the japanese prefer long legs and beautiful eyes. Hope that helped!
