the important thing is to accustom your ear to the tones (it is a tonal language).

fluent vietnamese is more difficult, however.

but basic viet will allow you to communicate.

vietnamese grammar is much simpler that most languages---there are no "endings" to learn!!! for instance, past, present and future forms of a verb are all the same. time is indicated by a word in front of the verb.

roughly, DI = to go in the present. da di=went.
