i smog cars for a living and i have yet to see more boxer motors outlast a v6. not saying that it can't do it but i just dont see that many. the best design are inline 6's.
Im going to look at my first audi s4 this weekend. Its a 2001 with 98000 miles on it for 6500. Is there anything specific i should look for? I heard the turbos are a weak point and the timing belt should of been replaced by now. This is my first euro car so im not sure about what i need to watch out for. Nice car btw. Cant wait to actually own one soon.
@spetznatz2 Simple blow down of the engine bay with compressed air, clean the air filter, and change the oil after an outing like this and the engine is perfectly fine.
@77chatham so you're one of these people that would buy a nice car and then never REALLY drive it, huh? the stuff in this video is what these cars were meant for :)
I am sure Audi's Quattro system is more perfected than that of Subaru. In the end, Audi designed the Quattro system specifically for racing (rally). All AWD cars owe it to the Audi.
Yea I wonder who came up with AWD system for rally... Audi defined rally racing. Everyone else started to copy Audi and integrate AWD system in their cars. Audi is 100x more practical then WRX. Audi icorporates luxury, handling, and power, while WRX does only handling. How many WRXs do you see with 180k miles still running? That is because the 4 cylinder engine are not as durable as V6 from Audi. Audi>Subaru.
@BoomeR911104 How about reliability, ease of service and cost of service? How many 100k mile+ S4's have had their motor pulled and turbo's replaced? The fact that the turbo's go out so frequently at ~100k miles and the fact that you have to pull the motor to replace them ($10k+ if you cant do it yourself) is the reason S4's have dropped in value so much and the reason they aren't as sought after as they otherwise would be had they been a more reliable, better engineered car.
@BoomeR911104 That's funny because when I cruise up to ski, the WRXs and EVOs leave Audis behind... How many Audis do you see with over 180k on the clock? Yeah, exactly while every other Subaru is pushing over 200k.
One great thing about Audis though...their depreciation is probably the highest of any car brand on the market!
@BoomeR911104 yea but the damn turbos keep blowing and you gotta take the whole engine out to replace them.... why do I love you so much Audi... you only cause me pain and heartache
@BoomeR911104 You clearly haven't experienced the electric problems that plague Audi's yet. I GAVE my Subaru Legacy Turbo away, still running strong, with 306k miles on the clock. Also had an 85' wagon with 265k and my current Outback XT is rocking 180k. It'll still pull over Vail Pass in Colorado (12k ft) at 125MPH. Listen, I love Audi. They're probably my favorite car company, bar Porsche, but saying that Subaru's are unreliable is just false.
@BoomeR911104 1. wrx and s4 aren't even in the same class and when it was new it cost wayy more than the wrx. its like comparing a base civic to a g37s. wrx does handling cause thats what it was designed for, pretty stupid of you to compare a car that was built for mainly one reason to a car that does everything sort of ok. lastly if you keep it stock and have regular req maintenance any car will go to 180k mi, even a cavalier!
@carsnwomen91 Civic and G37s? Doubt that's a good comparison either. Both S4 and WRX are 4-door midsize sport cars. Both are 4wd. Both are 6-spd manual (even though there is an option for auto). Both weigh less than 4k lbs. Both have over 300hp. Both use forced induction. So how is all this the same as Civic to a G37s?
@BoomeR911104 fuck man, open ur cum clouded eyes and get ur shit straight. thats a wrx not a wrx sti. wrx is 5 spd, 227 hp 217 lb ft. and the s4 stock is 250hp not 300, thats the v8 s4... get out of ur vw fan hole and learn the difference between models of other car companies.
@BoomeR911104 on top of that sti was available in 04. thats a 2002-2003 bug eye wrx. if the sti was there it would be completely fair. and since it would be stock sti (300hp) vs modded s4, in the long run the sti would last longer cause its STOCK vs modified. and you only see more 180k mi s4's because they haven't been touched. sti is more of a car you play with, s4's were mostly for d-bag businessmen who don't get their hands dirty. still love an s4, don't get me wrong.
@carsnwomen91 No need for cheap insults. "More boost" does not equal reliability. The reason Audi's bi-turbo V6 lasts 150k+ miles is because of low boost using two turbos instead of one high single turbo. Bigger engines also rev lower so V6 has less cycles than straight 4. No rocket science here. I am no Audi fan boy, even though I've had 2. Look up engine reliability ratings for Subaru's higher output 4 cylinders, especially on Legacy GTs.
@BoomeR911104 so what if people copied audi for awd? its a spin off of 4wd which was first successfully mass produced by jeep.. so Jeep>Audi? obviously not. everyone copied honda's vtec... so Honda>Audi? not really. thats stupid reasoning. and audi isn't even in WRC to use their magical awd. they pulled out a long time ago. Even though subaru pulled out of WRC as well, at least there'll be 1 WRX that'll race it...not 1 audi though. as a car company yes Audi>Subaru but ur reasoning is flawed
@carsnwomen91 Audi did not "pull out"... They were banned as they were winning every championship. WRX and S4 cost pretty much the same. B5s were in 30-40k range, b6/7s were in 40k range, the new B8s are in the 50s. As far as I know, new wrx cost between 40 to 50 grand. So "way more" is an invalid statement. And regular maintenance has nothing to do with performance. F1 cars go through an engine in one race. They are not made to last, same with STIs.
@BoomeR911104 u must be talking about the wrx sti, fyi its just a wrx in video. the wrx cost 30k fully equipped, s4 at that time must've been at least 40k a4 model started at like 30k, i got road & track from '99, i can double check if you still disagree. if the sti was racing in this video it would've been fair. i just don't like how you're ragging on a good car and jumping on your audi fanboy wagon. i see wrx's with 250k km stock running fine
@BoomeR911104 maintenance or not, if you put the right supporting mods together with more boost and have a proper tune any car will last. just cause you see a lot of idiots fucking up their cars because of excessive boost with a street tune and no supporting engine mods doesn't give you the right to call an sti less reliable than a TT 2.7v6. if you do the same to your s4 i'm sure it won't last very long either, douche clown.
@BoomeR911104 and how do u get banned for being too good? hahaha if that were the case ferrari wouldn't be in f1 and audi's r10 or whatever (tdi racecar) wouldn't be competing either cause they were owning. i'm a massive troll when it comes to this so your next reply better have some right facts.
i smog cars for a living and i have yet to see more boxer motors outlast a v6. not saying that it can't do it but i just dont see that many. the best design are inline 6's.

Audi was actually kicked out of races and had extra rules imposed on the team, due its Quattro advantage, developed entire for racing. Quattro FTW!
