America was very similar to Switzerland... the only difference is that the Swiss became prosperous by remaining neutral. When you become emotional, you lose the reasons you fought in the first place. USSR went bankrupt by supporting soviet sattelites everywhere...and the US will not be an exception of extended militancy.

However, war is generally undemocratic, for in every war it makes a small minority of the winning nation's citizenry wealthy. These elites become greedy and eventually destroy the democratic roots which their ancestors had fought for.
