  • This stick trick came out of marching drums, not Jojo Mayer. Get yer facts straight!

  • @jammustardj Does it really matter where it came from? Nobody from the kit world is doing that trick except for Jojo, even if corps have been doing suicide drops for ages...he applied into a situation that actually matters at the end of the season.

  • @JohnnyLongboddi Right, the truth doesn't matter, let's just keep spreading disinformation! Excuse me, but I know plenty of drummers in the "kit world" who use this trick, I've done it for years, and we all got it from watching drumcorps - not Jojo. By your argument, we should all credit Buddy Rich with the Moeller technique because he made it popular, even though Sanford Moeller invented it and only after observing Civil War drummers where it originated. You are a tool sheep...

  • nice

  • this is a normal trick

  • Man, before I saw the whole video when I see just the thumbnail you look about 40 years older than you really are.

  • One of my favorite tricks! Well demonstrated!

  • i dont like the sound of your snare man ,to low

  • BTW..that is not classified as a spin.it is called a O.O.R.T or Object Orientation Regrip Trick aka Object Flip Reflex ..you can do it with most any object that will fit in your

hand-a long screw driver-a banana-broom stick handle ETC..as long as your hand& wrist reflexes are quick enuf to turn and catch it and NOT bat it away..that's all..... easy.....simple once you know your body!

  • @nlbjones were you really, really high when you typed that?

  • @Colenelly high on life buddy,you bet!GOD BLESS!!

  • @nlbjones ahahahaha

  • @Colenelly glad you could comprehend ahahahahaha

  • That's actually a drum corps move.

  • i hit myself in the head

  • @DiscoYak HAHAHAHAHA

  • bit . ly/jerku

  • My dad just killed me... He was recording his last few touches on his cd and while I was watching this vid with my earphones the stick just flew into a cymbal and they had to record the whole song over again... =[ lol

  • Good, tight video -- well-explained! Thanks!

  • Thanxbro!

  • my hand hurts between my finger and thumb now. It's all red.

  • in the marching world this is just called a suicide

try it with 2 sticks and without watching the stick

  • @Givitomey I did it, it is NOT that hard at all buddy..keep practicing...

  • thank man

  • i like the derby hat

  • thanks!!

    JESUS LOVES YOU!!!!!!

  • I didn't hear a thing! Would this play well on a CD?

  • shame if you think drummers are only musicians.

    i'm more ... i'm an entertainer

  • nice i want to start drumming now (i'm 17 and i played piano and guitar before that but i'm not good at that xD) do u have any tips for me? Nice vid dude \m/ thx

  • Yeah boy!

  • u are right...we are...now when im backsticking for no reason i can have an esxuce

  • @nuthajason its tough to entertain from behind the set... but two of my biggest influences are great at it... Lars Ulrich and Shannon Larkin (Also Daniel Adair does a good job)

When its live... its all about the show

  • hey i think i should let you know this wouldn't play well on a CD cause it makes no noise cause it's not a sound and it's for live playing just in case you didn't know....you know, cause asked so i thought i'd answer you...pretty dumb question but still there's dumb people...

  • ..this is called a suicide. It's a drum corps move

  • yessir.

  • awesome

  • I don't wanna be a ball smasher...BUUUUUUUUUT

How can I incorporate this into my drumming? It's to slow isn't? I mean if your playing...and you do this...the whole beat is shot to hell? Am I wrong?

  • don't do it in the middle of a pattern do it were you have like a 2 second opening

  • Well if you're blast beating there will probably not be too much time to execute this. Pick your moments within grooves, at breaks, etc. Learn to execute it away from the drum set, then try using it when you're grooving. I think you'll figure it out yourself if you keep at it. :-)

  • In an open snare solo, you dont have to be playing an in-time pattern. There is plenty of room for stuff like this

  • what a funny little hat he's wearing 8-)

  • our snare line did this this year

  • why is it called that? i did that in my snare solo at dci in 1987.

  • do sth? upload sth?

  • the usualy term for the trick is called a suicide. and usually its done with the stick falling behind the back.

  • nice indeed

  • thanks mate i´ve homework to this weekend... :)

  • nice!

  • XD nice

  • very good.. thanks

  • easy and cool man

  • Haha nice stuff, thx thx

  • Thanks a lot, man!

  • a good amount of drumlines do that visual. i love doing it while marching, and the kids i teach are always trying it, but fail .haha. but theyll get it sooner or later

  • They really fail that much? It's not that hard of a trick...

  • well ya hes barely dropping it tho.

most drumlines that do that visual will drop it and catch it at the resting point of their arm, so its going alot further, thus more error

  • I've always heard this called the 'suicide.' It's used in marching percussion.

  • correct, because when you drop the stick in competition you just bombed your points.

  • i have try it and u don't need a dead stop if u do like a twirl at the start then continue it around under youre hand/wirst i can post a video later maby ^^

  • thanks

  • cool thanks

  • very nice....thx

  • Nice hat.

  • Thanks a lot for sharing! I'm gonna practice it!

  • Lovely hat indeed.

  • digging the hat bro

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • fine idea... respect 5/5

  • cool..

    cheers man

  • thx, this is pretty cool!!

  • nice

  • not if the aim of the video is to teach it to others.

  • lol... lets try it

  • nice hat :-) good explanation

  • Could you explain how to do the Daniel Adair spin that he uses in all his solos?

You could probably see it when he plays a groove on his hi-hats.

  • now try doing it with your left hand while playing traditional

  • i know this one (nice spin btw) but jojo mayer didn't develope it

  • first try and i nearly broke my monitor LOL

  • Dang, I broke a lamp

  • lol that sucks, i put a dent into my floor tom.

  • @iKkleFuzZ i dented the wood floor.

  • Dork

  • Its called a "Suicide"..lots of people do It...

  • it should be jojo mayer, shouldn't it?

  • yes, it should...

  • awsome men :)

  • I may be mistaken but Jojo Mayer didn't invent this, if anything the first group I saw do it was Phantom Regiment

  • That is sort of common, it is called a suicide. It is a good idea to work them up before putting them in a marching show.

  • nice man , gud video

  • Good stuff

  • cool!!!

  • Good lesson, short but good.

  • haha, sweet. I'm gonna give this a try.

  • rad vid, man!

  • nice hat, Nutah :-)
