  • It's awesome how she just finishes and walks off casually. No one else can attempt that and succeed like Hiromi.

  • i wouldn't care if Tony Grey (the bass player) was wearing a koala suit, the music would still grab me

  • Five people are not dancing in paradise...

  • I was too distracted by the bass player's sweater.

  • Pure sex.

  • This is hard to believe. I don't think I ever felt that the drummers would have trouble keeping up with a pianist. Must see!!

  • Dang. Every time I watch this I say "There's no way I'm gonna watch this whole thing" and I always end up sitting here for the full 10 minutes.

It's just too awesome to turn away from..

  • wonderful...

  • that hair...

  • at 4:38 she's laughing like "I could poop on this piano and people would still think I'm amazing"

  • fantastic!

  • ISSO É SIMPLESMENTE DO CARALHO!

  • how could anyone not like this? simply amazing

  • How can anyone NOT like this. She is absolutely amazing. Even if you aren't into the fusion thing...the technical and musical command is AMAZING!

  • Who mixed this, the DRRRRUMMMMMMMMMERRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!???!!

  • this is sick and it makes me happy

  • her articulation is so crisp and her ideas are tangible enough to entertain and remain cohesive at such a high tempo. Love it

  • @aWinkler2010

    very well articulated

  • Poor drummer! He had to take a breather at the start of his solo :)

  • この曲の最初の旋律を聴くたびに心身が震える感覚に襲われる。

    トリオの時のライブでのアンコールはこれだったよなぁ。

    ノってる時は全体的にテンポが速く 旋律がえげつないw

  • Caravan, yeah...

  • 鬼や・・・

  • lol...watch and hear many times!!!

    im still amazed..

    8:43 till end..woooohooooo

  • I love this kind of "drag race jazz".

So one of my favorite jazz pianist is she.

One of the other is Michel Camilo.

But they play slow song very well, too :)

  • Fantastic.

  • I can't believe it!!! I'd love to go to one of her concerts!!! the way she moves her fingers.....just awesome!!! and that entrance after the drums' solo...wow

  • Hiromi's incredible talent is apparent in all of her performances, but perhaps more so in this one than most others. Some may consider this piece a bit show-offish, but I don't care - I love listening to her play.

  • That drummer is something else.

  • im in love....

  • Wath is the name of drumer?

  • Martin Valihora

  • I am humbled. Watching Hiromi play piano is like watching Hendrix play guitar. She makes love to it.

    Incredible woman.

  • @LeftyAintright

    great comparison! tis true

  • Ilove her - i thought : now married , she will somewhat take gas back BUT NO SO, ( UNTILL 05:36 ) I'm a man and play on keyboard - light key pression - And last week I tried some on a Steinway like she has here and I couldn't do it so heavy How does she do that impossible speed - WOW Like YORO2YARO but for Chopin I like so much her A-Syncopic Playing sometimes AND she has the DELAY like Michel Petrucciani fantastic 5******
  • man i just can't stop playing clips from this concert, xyg, tom and jerry (?)... and now this. crazy hair, pink shirt... everything is perfect besides the music. this is a historic event! i'd buy this dvd (if exists) and watch it whenever i feel suicidal...

  • hmm maybe I'll just get shot down for saying this but a bit of her playing here reminds me of michel camilo. really great stuff, I like this recording better than the album version.

  • Amazing!

  • Her face is hilarious at 4.29 :D

    Excellent stuff.

  • Every face is authorized for an artist if itimproves the stuff.

  • What

    The

    Heck

    ...is Tony wearing?

    lol

  • lol i always say this. he has such a weird sense of style. but he's killer on the bass though

  • a fluffy shirt pehaps?

  • Oh, posting again for a question:

Did she quote Caravan at 3:14? Because that would be so freaking awesome.

  • It was really short, but I think so.

  • That's definitely caravan :)

  • The way she fits it into her solo is so awesome.

    What a great pianist.

  • Absolutely. You should also check out her version of "I got rythm" @ Tampere Jazz Happening 2008 . Nice quotes also there :)

  • yup, you can even hear a little wink to Softly As In A Morning Sunrise

  • you can find exactly the same piano passage in her recording of Caravan (which has appeared some years after this concert vid)

  • please upload "brain" of disc Brain....

  • There is no question about it ! this phenomenal woman is one of the most exceptional musicians to come along in the last 100 years. She has all the bases covered .. she plays the instrument with the same kind of heart and soul of the greatest artists in history. Hiromi Euhara is an original and I feel so lucky to be living in the same era and be privilaged to hear her incredible devotion to the great art of music. I've seen Tatum in my time, now I want to see Hiromi Euhara .. and Hank Jones.

  • You've seen Tatum play? That's fantastic! He died at least 30 years before I was born, but I'd give a finger to have seen him play.

You're right too, this woman has it all.

  • SO , . . YOU DON 'PLAY

  • I remember finding this video awhile back. I had a hard time looking it up because of the limited name and description. xD

Anyway, favorite'd so this won't happen again. Love this performance.

  • eres un ser increible, me imagino q debes flotar en el aire jejeje te amo hiromi tu musica es azombrosa!

  • I like this music soooooooo much!

  • Hiromi Rocks! Fuckin' monster keyboardist. I love her!

  • Often too brilliant...

  • I would love to buy a copy of this concert.Does any one know where it can be found.

  • go on the her website and look up the link to concord music group. they have all her stuff plus the 2 DVDs that just came out recently with this performance in it :)

    im waiting for mine

  • She played it like someone possessed by evil, but came out awesome and genius as expected.

My cousin Daryl plays like a person possessed too sometimes, but usually we throw bottles at him...

  • hahaha

  • Hehehe

  • LOL

  • dave dicenso the drummer?

  • Martin Valihora

  • No thats Dave DiCenso in this.

  • lol that's funny. No but really, I know quite a bit about the [former] Hiromi trio, and I'd be willing to bet anything that the drummer here is Martin Valihora. You can even tell it's him by his drumming style.

  • The former Hiromi Trio consisted of Dave DiCenso...and this style is more in line with Dave DiCenso, complete with his extensive soloing...

  • You must not know DiCenso's style that well if you mistake it for Valihora's. Heck, you must not know DiCenso well at all if you mistake him for ANOTHER PERSON!

Valihora's website confirms the drummer in the video him because he is listed as playing with Hiromi in this 2004 Yokohama Blitz event.

  • thats Martin Valihora... 100%

  • uuuhhh....No, I took lessons from Dave DiCenso while at Berklee...and that's DEFINITELY NOT Dave. It's Martin....who is almost as equally phenomenal!

  • Martin Valihora for sure

  • respect!!!

  • great as always! luvin the hair and tony grey's fuzzy shirt! lol

  • Wow she is amazing!

  • wow...speachless again, I think I became addicted to hiromi's music :D

  • She is just raping the piano

  • I think he meant it as a compliment! I think

  • ...fast. xD

  • Woah.

  • yep smoking stuff, the night in tunisa quote was cool also. about the 557 akr she goes off but its mostly showmanship i think cuz musically it was not very good. wonderful changes of intesity althought the drum solo could have been left out imo.

  • you mean caravan?

  • in a song this rhythmic and latin a drum solo is an imperative!

  • Whenever I listen to this music I always imagine her to be some enormous Japanese giant who dwarfs the piano with hands the size of dinner plates. To see this video it just confounds me even more... where does all that energy come from? How does she just bang the shit out of that keyboard for hours at a time?

    Cf.

  • muy buen video de verdad

este es el jazz q a mi me encanta

  • One of the best songs from her album "Another Mind". Next to Summer Rain, it is my favorite from that album.

    Thanks.
