  • is there anythign more about the creepy witch and why she has the same symbol on her forehead that was on the walls of the ruins?

  • /me hearing Jafar scream.

    The fuck, Titus?!

  • Titus only did the shitty SNES port. This is a direct port of the awesome original Broderbund version.

  • I found prince of persia 1 for ps3, does anyone know whether the shadow and the flame has been worked out for ps3 as well or not?

  • oh wow, i just noticed the witch at the end has the snake symbot!

i guess she is somehow related to the prince, or his father did something to her

or it could be a test?

    we will never know

  • Fantastically played all throughout. Thanks again for posting.

Maybe it's just me, after all the running and climbing and crawling and fighting, all the long-distance travel, all the close calls and frustration, the point where I finally got to roast Jaffar...and understood, at long last, what the whole point of this epic journey was...well, I couldn't even imagine a more satisfying conclusion for a computer game.

  • WTF why does jaffar speak arabian lol. I thought it is about Persian? Well atleast in the last 2 Games they speak persian and from PoP Sands of Time onwards the Storys have more Persian Background.

  • Best part. 1:20 BURN, SUCKA!!

  • I read that the witch brought Jafar back to life, after the Prince defeated him for the first time. By that snake drawn on her forehead - the same drawning you see at the ruins - I believe that she killed the Prince's parents and helped Jafar to get the Prince, so it would put an end on his royal lineage.

Dunno, maybe the Prince's parents just pissed her off.

  • i can't play the game on my pc anymore because i lost the manual for it. Every time you beat a stage you had to put in a 4 symbolled password and the manual told u what it was

  • @OrinjFlames24 No worries mate, just visit gamefaqs.com and there will be a walkthrough or a guide with the different symbols in it.

  • hey! how about this?: the witch passed herself off the Prince's mother. The palace in ruins is actually HER palace, this would explain why the spiral snake is drawn on the walls. She might be doing this as a revenge against Jafar. After all, they're both powerful evil sorcerers, though Jafar finally seized power.

  • You don't need to come near Jaffar. When Jaffar stands before the prince, just press Ctrl, Jaffar will die automatically.

  • I am very curious about this, who is the creepy old crystal ball woman could that be the mother or an enemy

  • Hey! Great walkthrough! Also loved the game. Question (I know it now because I saw it) how were you suposed to realize that the prince converts himself in to the shadow prince by presing shift + left, right, left, right...? Is there some sort of reference during the game about that, or players were suposed to guess it? Thx!

  • It's in the manual under the controls section.

  • @elbryan42 : You don't need to come near Jaffar. When Jaffar stands before the prince, just press Ctrl, Jaffar will die automatically.

Hey, I wanna ask: When the prince met Jaffar, what did Jaffar say before making magic spell? (I'm Vietnamese, so I can't listen to him clearly :P)

  • How did the sultan returned from war know that this is the real prince?

  • Thanks a lot for the great walkthrough. I agree: PoP 2 is one of the greatest games ever. Unfortunately I was to small (about 12?) when I played it so I didn't make it through the red castel without cheating. Great to see the whole game now!

  • its a little confusing. at first, its obvious that the prince is the blue flame, but when you chase the copy (jaffar) it looks like he killed YOU. what the heck happened?

  • Warrior within and Two thrones lackes something Shadow and Flame had. Plus I wish there WAS A SEQUAL to shadow and flame... who was the witch?

  • @TheIcySaracen i think it's jaffar after he was killed...

  • Wow, that witch was creepy.

  • Nah, after searching, I finally got the answer :

the witch is not jaffars mother but she is the one who ressurected him. She is the mother of the villian of the third part which is called "Prince of Persia 3D" who actually should be the husband of the princess (before our prince saved her from jaffar)

posted in another POP2 video on YouTube. The S symbol is on her forehead not under the crystal ball.

    Ah, I was mistaken...

  • @nerektakeilla Where do you know that from?

  • Comment removed

  • it looks like the price has that saiyan aura around him

  • At Jaffar theres a trick where you dont have to chase the f..er around for hours. If you climb up, show yourself, go back climb down and then up again then he climbs up too, so you can shoot him straight from the other screen. takes about 5 secs

  • Wasn't there, like, some gigantic fucking spider somewhere in this level?

  • errr...yes

i think fi you fall, in the first or second screen in this level, in one of these holes

but im not sure...long time ago i played it^^

  • The spider's underneath the first room. You go down there and an unlimited supply of guards keep spawning. When they die, they randomly drop life expansion potions, so if you don't have enough life bottles to turn to the shadow, you can stock up here.

  • The witch on the end may be the mother of the Prince, and she is observing him and the princess with the crystal ball just to protect them. But she died (because she is too old) before the happenings of Prince of Persia 3d.

  • As I Know... She is The Evil Witch Who Gave the Life Again to Jaffar In this Game, And The Evil One Who Destroyes The Palace of Dead.(Yes. the Place Where Filled With Flying Heads and Snakes.)

  • is there a game in where you actually confront her? or is she "pending" in the forgotten POP universe?

  • 1:25 - Pwned Jaffar...

  • omg i love this game!!!

  • Come on - the flying horse, the Persia clones - this is fucking beautiful.

  • thu thu thu.....ass u r...

  • lol, that's pretty nerd.

  • OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH>..

    HAI

  • lol the way that thing dies is priceless ... XD

  • Does this game has a sequel?

  • dude i like the sounds of the burning jaffar LOL

  • oh shiii, i got to this part with a full health bonus but i didn't know how to bring out that shadow form with the flame =( how did you do it here?

  • how should one have known that you should set the prince on fire, if i may ask. My dad and me played this game like 12 years ago and got stuck at this level and never finished it. Just found this awesome walkthrough and was just wondering.

  • hey elbryan42 i'm on the final level but i dont know how to set prince on blue fire like you doit on 00:04 in the clip.. help me please i have the POP2 for pc

  • You keep tapping left and right. :P

  • pls pls pls pls pls reply to this......how did u knw that by tapping left and right the shadow will b out ??.....i am using the pc version and had no idea abt this...pls tell me how u knew it :)

  • Sometimes you'll accidentally notice a hint the game will give when pressing left then right (like when you have NO idea where to go).

I did beat this game when I was a whelp because of this "hint".

  • Comment removed

  • hmm I don't no, but I think nobody knows that.

Only Jordan Mechner knows that, because he maybe planned a third PoP-Game with this witch.... but then in 1999 there come out PoP 3D.

But maybe is the with the woman who says "COME TO ME"?

  • it sucks that the other stages are not on the snes version. so much left out.

  • the witch at the end is fucklin creepy... O.o

  • Just a random old hag who is jealous of the princess in the end? =P

  • did ya notice the s on her forehead? its the same you can find at the broken palace at some places.

  • I love the prince of persia shadow and the flame music is so cool.

  • very nice game play dude grats :- ) i still belive that this Prince of percia is the most hard from all till now ... +1 from me P.O.P FTW

  • My brother finished this game when i was 10. i was crazy to play it myself. at the age of 20 I install on my pc. This is the last level where I was stuck for about 3 months but did not finish then I stopped to play coz I did not know the logic how to go off with sorcerer. I got it now at the age of 26. I want to play again. I am having issues to execute it on vista. Does anyone know? Is it compatible on vista.

  • Try DOSBox, it should run fine. ;-)

  • That giant spider at the bottom still freaks me out, hahaha Great walk through man :) helped a lot!!!

They should really make a sequel for this particular series n complete the saga as a trilogy, sort of as a bonus for the next "next Gen" ones

  • until know we havent found out...

WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE PRINCE ?

  • His name is... The Prince. He'll forever be unnamed. That's what's so great about the character, ever since the beginning.

  • That also is in Prince of Persia where the prince is really called The Prince and the girl is called Elika which is revealed at the beginning of the game.

  • i think prince lol nah i dna in the 1st one he has no eyebrows :D

  • man...... they claasic prince got better clothes then the sands of time

  • rumor has it Jaffar learns magics from the witch of the ruins (where there are flying heads)

and she tries get revenge on the prince

  • Great time man, 40 minutes left !

  • I never finished the last level, never knew how to do it :P

  • i don't believe i'm saying this, but... i finished the game! finally.

  • THX .....

I played that game long time ago but

I coudn't finish the last level...

    tanhks.......

  • ahhhh nunca supe como pasarlo jajajaj! puedo morir feliz ahora :)

  • i never had a chance to beat this. i always stopped near the end. i dont know y i did that either

  • Nice !!

But why do I tur black instead of shiny blue?? And why can't i beat the last guy? When i come close to him, he throw this spell at me. Damn that bastard! Somebody knows?

  • you need more lives

  • and the flame ofcourse

  • You need 11 tottle bottles at least. The twelfth bottle is good for an extra shot if you miss Jafar. That's why there's a life expansion in the boss rooms. Also, if you're low, below the starting point is a giant spider with enemies that keep respawning. The enemies sometimes drop life expansions as well.

So if you don't have enough, you can stock up at the spider.

  • or maybe the witch hates prince beacose she was a traitor of prince's kingdom and his parents put the mark on her head with fiering metal la cows

  • they should make another 2d prince of persia and have you fight the witch.

personaly i always thought that the witch was jaffar's mom. or the person who killed prince's mom and dad and fucked you the castle they lived it. you know what i mean because the S one her forehead was all over that palace

  • but if she is jaffar's mom, didin't jaffar be one of prince's and his parents subordiant, maybe jaffar and the witch are the ones that killed prince's parents

  • maybe. its all uncerten.

if only the company that made this game came back and made Prince of Persia 3: The Mark of the Witch(or something). then we would know for sure.

Or Ubisoft could make this game for the X-box Live Arcade and the PSN so people could finish the story.

i mean think about it. all the Prince of Persia games fell like they were made for this one. Sands of Times(3/3), "Next Gen"(1/3),3D sucked, Origianl 2D(2/3 incompelte)

  • Prince of Persia 3D is the third game in the original trilogy, using the same Prince. So there's three in the original. It just doesn't explain the witch or more of the Prince's family's backstory.

And yeah, the third game didn't suck. Not many played through it all. Those that have will know that it's one of the best 3D adventures of the first generation of 3D games. The dirigible or rooftop stages is one of the most memorable in almost any game I've played it.

  • I plan on playing through the Dreamcast version of POP3D in the future.

  • hey only my opionion about the games suckign.

you like it thats fine, i just dont.

but Pince 3D was not a sequal to The Shadow and the Flame. it was just a jest to see how the game worked out in 3D.

  • Why isn't it considered the sequel? It has the same Prince in it.

  • think of it like super mario.

you keep playing as mario in all the games but it dosen't continue to the orginal story line.

  • maybe if they make another POP but in 2D to explain us hou is the witch and how they make it to the story of 3D SORRY FOR MY ENGLESH

  • the POP3D didin't sucked but i think that f the original creator made the story myebe 3d was better

  • 3D doesn't go into it because Jordan Mechner didn't head the project up. He was the driving force behind the original game, Shadow and the Flame, and Sands of Time. The other installments of the series did not involve him at all, look how far from the original concept they drifted.

  • I must say that this is my favourite game, but how steal the flame and how get you flame spirit at last level are the most stupid things that i saw in a game in my life. At last i end it, but it´s big deception from my favourite game..

  • Sice 15 years ago i tried to finish this game and when i tried to steal the flame always killed me, so finally after thousands of tries i decide stop playing. Two days ago i downloaded it again and i tried it. I saw your demostration and finally i knew how was the trick...

  • I got fucking freaked out when I dropped into the pit right when you entered the final level and that huge spider was there. Wrong time and place for arachnophobia......

  • Dont assume you could post a video of that spider?

Would love to see what a spider in this game could look like :)

  • nah, but I'm pretty sure you can find it somewhere on Youtube, better yet Google it

  • at 1:15 is an optical illusion

  • gotta love chasing Jaffar until you touch him.

  • Tag, you're it! Now BURN!!! xDD

  • Sorry for my english

Great game, but...is there a third part of this game?

  • wow, cool ending.

  • that soul thing was crazy.....

how can you figure out something without manual all by yourself?

the ending laks parallax scrolling ;)

  • Does that witch have anything to do with prince of persia 3d? I played the first 10 minutes or so of it, it was cool and shit, but nothing compared to this.

So,noone actuall knows who the witch is then.. Spooky.

I love the snake symbol on her forhead thats also in the ruins and such.

  • Nope, the witch is absent in POP3D.

  • Hmm, thats a shame.. :\

Allthough the story was'nt amazing, the witch thing still has me, XD

  • that old witch was jaffars mentor and she revived him after the prince killed him in pop 1

  • I suspect the witch hag at the end was the prince's 'mother' in the cut scenes earlier. Notice the snake mark on her forehead - it's the same mark found in the ruins.

Apparently, she did not tell the whole truth about the prince's past, and used him as a pawn to eliminate Jaffar.

  • is there a vid of you going up against him without flame? i want to see that death.

  • yes, finally completed, I think the flame is stronger than jaffar, because when you use it at the wrong moment, he kills you with his magic.

I also tried what happend if you jump to the flame when you aren't the shadow: hurtz

  • Why is Jaffar running away from the flame? Is he scared of being burned to death? Haha

To elbryan42: you said that Jaffar will kill you instantly if you attack him with a sword.

If you actually give Jaffar a chase without turning into a flame, does he still run away from you like this video clip that you showed?

I mean, Jaffar could easily kill you in that case

  • Nope, he just attacks you instantly, killing you. He actually impales you with your own sword.

  • so that means that Jaffar doesnt play a hide-and-seek like the above footage and just attacks you straight away?

That means you have to run away from Jaffar to avoid getting killed!

In other words, roles are reversed from the above!

  • who is that at 2:24??

  • hey!! that about the flame wasnt that strange... but i did it diferently, i jumped with the prince next to the flame, an then went back to trhe exit door, the only difference is taht the eagles didnt treat me like a god

anyway whats this temple and the flame supposed to be?

dont you think that pop1 was much more harder than pop2 ??

  • I did not remember this part, maybe I have never got there..lol.:D

  • wasn´t that witch at the end the "bad" for the coming prince of persia that never came?

  • Who's the ugly bitch in the end?

  • haha no doubt

  • I remember seeing pictures of the game in a magazine (I think PC Gaming World) and just HAD to have this game the day it was released.

The chess board with the Prince, Princess and Sultan in particualar was creepy and unnerving enough to make me want the game.

Ever since that preview screenshot, I've been creeped out by that chessboard. LOL. :)

  • No problem. You had a lot to say. :P

Saving was in POP1 as Ctrl-G. You saved by pressing Ctrl-L from the title screen. You returned to the title screen by pressing Ctrl-R. So Ctrl-R, then Ctrl-L to load a game in seconds. It's my initials, so yeah. Odd. :P

Also, Ctrl-Q quit the game, Ctrl-K toggled the keyboard, Ctrl-J toggled the joystick, Ctrl-S toggled sound and Ctrl-M toggled music.

  • POP2 just changed the hotkeys to pressing Alt-G, Alt-L, etc, etc since Ctrl was now your sword button. Though you didn't have to return to the title screen to load this time.

  • And yup, the manual did have instructions on becoming the shadow.

Anyways, the game can still be bought for the PC. It's in bargain bins with POP1 on a single CD. But it's still easier to play it on Prince of Persia: Sands of Time for the XBox, which is very easy to find.

  • But about the hotkeys, they weren't that hard to figure out back in the day. Before menus were standard, almost every application, not just games, used Ctrl-something or Alt-something for functions like that. Or they used the F1-F12 keys, but that wasn't as common.

It was usually the first letter of the function you wanted to perform. Q normally quit (or X for exit), S normally saved (except for POP where it was G to save Game), L for load, and so on.

  • ...so I swallowed my pride and took a look at your part 7 video as well as the way to activate the flame... Luckily I still had 10 minutes left in my game and could activate the flame despite not dieing in the previous level, and then I killed Jafar on my second try!

It would have been nice if the door didn't open in the flame level so that I would have known I was not doing something right. However, even then I wouldn't have known the sequence to activate the power (was it in the manual?)...

  • ...then today after playing through the game again, I reached the final level and after wasting 20 minutes there, I had my brother go on youtube and find out if I was doing something wrong (I wanted to find the solution by myself, that's why I sent him...), and then I heard him say "I'm seeing really weird things here" (referring to the way you're supposed to acquire the flame power), and let me know I was wasting my time...

  • ...so I reached the final level without knowing about the flame power... But I had only 10 minutes left, so after messing a little bit with the four illusions and Jafar, and getting killed while pulling out my sword, I ran out of time and had to start over... The following day I reached the final level again but this time with 30 minutes left... I messed around with the spider, the illusions, Jafar... I still had no clue what to do and ran out of time once more...

  • ...so I had to start over every time I ran out of time... and that means OFTEN! How many hours did I waste to beat a game that in fact only takes 1 hour to finish ;)

Secondly, in the flame level, after wasting a game trying to walk/jump/duck into it (and having to start all over gain, once more), I found out if I just went in front of the flame, then came back to the door, it was opened, so I figured it was how your supposed to do it...

  • Well well well... 15 years after its release, I have finally beaten this game, but not without some trouble.

Firstly, I didn't know it was possible to save in this game... I downloaded a cracked version and there was no manual or game menu, plus in the original PoP you couldn't save (unless it was possible back then too but I didn't know either, lol), so I figured it was the same for PoP2. I actually just learned I could have saved all along by reading through the comments here...

  • why didnt he got the sword at part 7????

  • Because, you can't get the sword. It's an enemy.

  • what will happen if he didnt turn into shadow?

  • Jaffar kills you instantly unless you attack him as a shadow.

  • ahum sorry to ask this but wdf! i did play this lvl a whole lotta different cuz there 2 endings 1 u pwn him normally 2 u kill him with the ghost and 3 if u had the sword u get the best ending :D so theyre from worst to best endings dude try em

  • Um, no. There's only one ending. You can only kill him with the flame. Engaging him with the sword makes him turn your sword against you, then he kills you instantly. And having less than 4 life bottles makes the flame go out, which also gets you killed instantly.

  • Yes, that's quite crappy, if you miss too many life upgrades you'll never turn into flame ghost.

  • HEY PLEASE HELP ME EVERYONE !!!

I Don't Know how i geht the shadowhuman!!!!

How the Button Kompination!!!!! Help help help

  • start with 9 health otherwise you will die! then when the level starts start turning left - right -left- right..... until your shadow comes to life! just like what you see in the video here!

  • well done mate well done:) 5/5 timeless classic. These PC games were considered state of the art with graphics like that, reminiscing bout a time when mc donalds was once in a while and considered only on special occasions reagan was a great president launching the states into economic super power status, fathers worked hard and the world was a less unfriendly place.

  • yeah i guess i could if i wasn't so lazy

  • you can use DosBox program for playing dos games ;)

  • The frustrating thing is i have this game but i don't have DOS

  • U can use D-Fend, you can play DOS games with that in the XP...

  • you can use Dosemu under linux.. i used to play a lot of old dos games

  • Also, Dosbox. It kicks ass.

  • 5/5

Prince of Persia obviously read some dragonballZ manga when he was small ^_^

    P.S.:

I know he was poor, maybe he just found it and thought it could be worth a try...

  • vea pues

dure 15 años sin poder pasar este juego

y hasta ahora veo el final

    jejeje

  • Thanks very much.

  • Hy all,

Could anyone tell me how I can save the game? Where can I find the page with the options load game, new game etc.?

  • The menu's in the XBox version only. If you're playing the PC version, if check the manual, you'd see that Alt-R returns to the intro, Alt-G saves, Alt-L loads, and Alt-Q quits.

I hope you didn't just download the game, but bought it somewhere.

  • ... and they lived happily ever after. i bet nobody can complete the last level without some hint, at least i can't :)

  • Back in the day, I could. It took forever, but I eventually figured it out. Jaffar killed me in one hit countless times. If you miss, you lose your flame, and you have to refill it with a life expansion. So, if you miss, he comes after you, one hit, you're dead.

    Great game nonetheless. :)

  • Back in the days when games weren't dumbed down. Good times!

  • I think 11 is the hardest level, and 9 took awhile to get the rhythm, after that it wasn't as bad

  • love this game, but is this the pc version?

  • This is from the XBox version of Sands of Time, which is a port of the PC version.

  • Hmm... I'm a bit confused. Isn't there a part somewhere in the finale with a gigantic spider?

  • If you don't have enough life expansions to become the shadow without dying (so, 11 life bottles in all, 12 is the max), you can climb straight down at the start and fight a whole bunch of guards on a giant spider.

The thing is, they randomly drop potions, so you can be down there fighting guards forever to get a few potions. Or you could get potions right away. The spider looks cool though. :)

  • whoa princess is hot

  • who ist the witch at the enddd?????ß

  • FINALLY I COMPLETED THE WHOLE GAME =)

  • Congrats! :)

  • why do you have to kill yourself?

  • Huh? The guy you kill is Jaffar, who is impersonating the Prince.

  • oh... but what about the begainning?

  • To release the Shadow. (aka flame in this point)
