  • I shoot a 22 hornet and they r awsome I killed a deer and even a moose

  • a .22 hornet for a big buck???? Little underpower would u not agree??

  • @phoenix1916 I've seen a woman take down a full grown bull elephant w/ a bow & arrow! Greatly dependent on the hunters skill, and some compensate w/ larger shells.

Know of a mountain man who crossed a deer while driving. The only thing he had w/him was a .22LR revolver. Shot the spine in front of the shoulders for a clean drop. 2nd hand story I know, but deer is the main staple of his families diet. (He weighs #400+)

    PS That is highly Illegal.

  • @cheerdiver NO ONE should ever take a spine shot!!! totally UNETHICAL!!

  • lol im gettin one next month cant wait c here in ireland have to have a shotgun first for bout a year then u can get a .22 but thats as powerful as a .223 yeah baby!!!

  • @davidcrotty82 boo!

  • @davidcrotty82 the 22 hornet is nowhere near as powerful as a 223.

  • @davidcrotty82 its nothing like a .223

  • head and neck definately dead

  • How can you use a .22 Hornet on a deer, it would never reasonably kill :(

  • in my state of louisiana its legal to hunt with nothing smaller than a 22 caliber centerfire. i use a 270 Winchester for that . does great heart and double lung shots, but im looking for a replacement. i may settle on a 223 remington for cheaper shooting and more training. i can be counted on for headshots. but hey, my grandfather killed plenty of deer with 22LR rifle from range so anythings possible as long as u put the bullet where it needs to be.

  • 6mm remington model 7 is way better. good out to 150yds. and thats all u need in penns woods.

  • im not a fan of the 243 my cousins shot deer at 100 yards with one head shot and it feel cryed got up and ran away very inhumane i use a 7mm mag its great for dear and bear if you hit them they dont go far trust me and as far as using a 22 hornet your insane you better be a damn sniper

  • well tell ur cousin hes an idiot! ur not saposed to head shoot any animal ur saposed to place ur shot behind the front sholder i have killd a countless number of deer with my 243 its probably one of my favorite guns. and noone should b hunting deer with a hornet thats just stupid to. the hornet is a perfect rodent gun/coyote gun but way to small for deer.

  • there is actually nothing wrong with head shooting, only reason why people shoulder shoot is because they generally are hutning for a trophey head or do not trust their shooting abilties to head shot, head shots are the best way to shoot when ur hunting for meat as you dont ruin any of the precious shoulder meat

  • @grim350z

yeah, this past deer season i shoot my first buck with my .243. its an awesome gun and it took the deer right down.

  • Let me introduce you to my friend MR . and MRS ,

  • yes your cousin is seriously retarded and so are you.

  • But not for deer. For varmints yes, but definetly not humane and ethical for deer.

  • its notlegal to hunt deer with a 22 hornet. s

  • i dont believe the author was planning on shooting a buck with a .22 hornet but was just doing some practise shots

  • A hornet is very low powered for a deer.... I would say a .223 is the smallet caliber for use on deer. Otherwise that shot needs to be right on the money.

  • ive killed two dear with my 22 hornet from 200yrds and niether ran a foot

  • Yeah, and a .22 LR will kill a deer too... I'm not saying it wont kill one... What I'm trying to say is that a .22 hornet IS to small for deer, regardless that you killed 2 from 200 yards and they dropped on the spot. Its more humane to use a larger caliber. Then you have less chances of a deer being more injured than killed.

Get a .243 Winchester. Its all you will need for deer, mule deer, antelope, coyotes, ect.

  • If you're going to get a gun that high caliber you might as well get something like a 30-06 or a 7mm so you can use it for bigger game.

  • That statement makes no sense. "If your getting that high of a caliber you might as well get a -06 or a 7mm so you can use it for bigger game."

A .243 winchester is not considered one of the "big caliber" or "big game" cartridge. Its a varmit/deer cartridge designed for that purpose. A 30-06 is a deer/large game cartridge designed for that purpose. A .243 is just about the minimum for a ethical and humane shot on a deer. A .22 hornet is for armadillos and game that size.

  • I didn't say it was, and even if you have a high caliber gun it doesn't mean your shot will be humane. That is decided by accuracy.

  • Yes, it is decided by accuracy. Hit the guts, and your deer will run anywhere from 100 to 500 yards.

But, even if off target, a .243 will tear up alot more tissue and hit with alot more power than a .22 hornet. And even if a shot was made in say the heart, a .243 will tear the heart completly up while a .22 hornet will only send a small hole through it.

There is no way to win this argument. Because it always has another side. If you use a .22 hornet and drop deer thats fine......

  • ... but when you shoot a deer and it didnt hit the vitals and it runs 800 yards and you cant find it or you find it the next day still alive but suffering, dont blame me. If that shot was made with a .243 more damage would have occured, and the deer wouldnt have lived much longer.

There is no comparison with a 100 grain bullet vs. a 30 grain bullet. The 100 grain will always win.

  • Yes, it will. I'm just trying to say that you can still easily down a deer with a .22 hornet.

  • two deer its an easy shot my scope is 3x9x40, thier regular sized white tail and the bullets are hollow point

  • Where I live the deer are small and a .22 hornet is enough to easily take one down.

  • i shoit a deer with a 223 in the heart from 50 yards and never found it because the bullet is just to small.I not gonna say that 223 or 22 hornet are to small but aim for the and don't look at it after trust me

  • i Have a Krico .22 hornet.

  • good shot what model rifle to you have? Ande what scope? I have a CZ 527 American bolt action in .22 hornet.

  • I had one,sold it,now regret it :(
