  • thank you for your wisdom. it has helped me a lot for my last demo. we got 40 emailaddresses as contacts, and I used several of your tips. Robyn of Rye, Drachenwald Frankmark Chatelaine

  • yeah we had a pair of authenticity police at our Hobby Club Expo 3 years back, they werent SCA affiliated, but they definately pushed away a lot of the public.

I think it's fantastic they they made everything by hand as historically accurate as they could, but they didnt need to act as though everyone who's seen a movie has the wrong impression of the middle ages.

  • Yes, those can be great. The most important things is to make sure that those stories, while mostly humorous, are positive and can be easily translated to the public. The SCA has it's own vocabulary and whlie it can be easily translated, often times, when telling a good story, you lose people along the way. To translate ever SCA word into modern english, loses the stories "timing" that makes it interesting. I am not saying it "can't" be done, but we must be careful when speaking with the public.

  • I would think you'd tell lots of anecdotes at demos, too. Information is grand, but a good story-- or several-- draws 'em in every time...
