weird that only in the 70's could our plastic armed forces have beards, except for Black GI Joe. We used to shave them all with a spoon, get Mohawk Joe going. Action Jackson and Bionic Man could hang , but Big Jim was actually not so big, came in at like 5ft tall compared to the others
I had a few of those 45's, they came with a comic book that matched what was on the record. My mom used to get them for me at the grocery store. Those were cool!

This was my very first GI Joe toy. It was a great starter because it was one of the few sets that came with a Joe figure. I ended up with tons of it throughout my childhood that eventually all went away in various garage sales. I agree with the poster who said these were the greatest. I took this stuff outside and played in the backyard and didn't spend all my time texting and playing video games on my ass.
Joe was the coolest toy any kid could have when we were kids! It actually got you out of the house and made you use your imagination- even in the snow! Joe was cool with it, he even had the outfits for any weather! I feel sorry for kids now. They only have a computer and a pre programmed adventure. G.I Joe only set the possibilities- the rest was up to you and what ever adventures you came up with!
Does any one remember the talking Joe commander? I had the bearded african american one. Can't remember all the things he said when you pulled the cord on his chest, except for ''Enemy planes! Hit the dirt!''.
@kwakis I remember it. I'd always thought (wrongly) that it said "Enemy planes - hit the deck!" I can't remember any of the other phrases that it said either...
@retrotrs80 ''Hit the deck!'' Could be! I also remember that the talking Joe commander came with strict instructions not to use him in water. Made that mistake when I put the talking Joe commander in the Sea Wolf sub marine! He spoke no more!
@gijoefan1973 I couldn't agree with you more. The toys from the 70's made us use the imagination when we played. Now you sit staring like zombies in front of the TV playing video games. I felt very fortunate to have grown up in the 70's and early 80's. Not just for the toys but for movies, music etc. Seemed alot simpler then. Happy times.
I had the g.i.joe with the kung-fu grip man it was so cool, it could grip anything. one time I left it hanging by its fingers about two stories up in a tree over night to see if the fingers would break off and they never did. damn thing stayed there over night with no problem.
@gijoefan1973 that is for sure. take one look at my channel. i am a real life gijoe figure lol. 37 and still play gijoe and train ninja and samurai just like i did as a kid. i got more imagination in my videos that kids do now. crazy kids and all on some medication too lol
These were the best. I had all that GI Joe shit. Sure beats these lame ass little plastic action figures they got now. Hated it when they shrunk Joe down to 3 inch action figure.
It's absolutely AMAZING how these take you back, to a precise moment, as if I'm right there NOW. man the memories. Is it me, or were the 70's absolutely the best?
My Brother had this and we'd play with it for hours. I'll never forget one time I put a daddy longlegs in the casket and my Brother nearly killed me. He was mortally afraid of spiders, even harmless ones. LOL
one of if not thee best GI-JOE adventure set ever made, I got one way back in Christmas 73 and it got tons of use, I also had the power book and record
i just received my vintage AT Secret of the Mummy's Tomb set from ebay today. Watching this video inspired me to buy it. Wow...does it bring back some memories. Thanks for posting , Frodo.Wait...i almost forgot..."Ma'am, yes, ma'am! " i give you a kung-fu grip salute! :)
Man I never realized that mummy casket was 1/2 the size of Gi Joe. I still have mine in the original box with all the accessories but I haven't opened it in years! Gotta go and check it out right now!!
isnt it funny 2 look back now and c how a toy created 2 indoctranate a youth that would b drafted for a war in se asia, then began 2 slowlly transition into the adventure team, that focused on adventure more than war, only 2 sell the next generation on the idea that a superior force of technology and training, could keep an evil gorrila force of terrorist @ bay, while nevr haveing a plan 2 capture or kill the evil leader cobra! lol what an imagination, lol we were sold lies and u bought them!!
Does anyone remember "Power Records?" They were the 45 vinyl record with a booklet. They did "G.I. Joes" records as companion to many of these "Adventure Sets."
I remember being quite proud at the time that my imagination was better than the "official" adventure story Power Records provided.
I had that toy back in the day! I played with that thing a lot!

Awesome. My favorite toy from childhood. Received it Christmas Day, 1968. A wrapped "mummy" and jewels were inside the sarcophagus.
Unfortuantely, Joe got called back to 'Nam the next spring and served two more tours.
