I agree on the surprised about not being 10X bigger than Lady Gaga. But what do you expect from people with eclectic taste....each of us has a preference on the type of music we like and the catagory/genre the industry puts the music in.
sorry you guys but this video is pretty stupid. I love the song and hoping that she will make a video on a ship Titanic 'sinking' and I am disappointed.
By the way, according mvdbase, Ace Norton did this video. He is, er... an ace director. Check out The Mountain Goats video for Sax Rohmer #1 for more Ace goodness.
I'm a hip hop artist and I gotta say, Norah's one of my favorite artists to listen to. Very inspiring as a song writer, beautiful voice, and her connection to the music is amazing.
i mean, with all the descriptions of food i had the image of this fancy tea party and then when she talks about the captain who was too ashamed to admit he dropped the oar, it got me thinking about the titanic. so even tho it's probably not about the titanic specifically it's about a similar situation...being too self-righteous to admit that you're wrong, and then having to suffer for it. like, ppl who would rather live in denial than admit that they were wrong to save themselves.
Seems like it. I heard someone mention Bush and I didn't see the reference at all except with the pontoon. So perhaps there is more than one reference?
well, im not sure. id have to look up the lyrics again. but, depending on norah's politcal views, it could be about bush and the war, implying that we went in ill-prepared and that we were in it long after we lost. so there's really nothing to suggest that it's SPECIFICALLY about bush, but our situation in iraq could definitely fit within the bigger picture that this song demonstrates.
She's actually talking about a relationship that didn't start off all that solid in the first place, and the boyfriend made a mistake and was too proud to admit it, so the relationship started sinking. All the things she says, the oyster cracker in the stew, the honey in the tea, the sugar cubes in the coffee, all symbolize how they are sinking fast.

I don't think so. It would seem to be more of an essay on life, living, and death - Nothing Gold Can Stay, and whatnot.

I always interpreted it as a reference to the state of the world, regarding the environment and other political issues.
Like, how we think we're so amazing, how civilized and advanced we are (sarcastic obviously), but we're still going to sink.
