@dasoliss i'd just like to add that youtube partners choose whether to put ads on their videos or not. For example, Shane Dawson is a partner but you could watch his videos one after the other until you die and you wouldn't be forced to watch a single ad before any of his videos.

When you do become a partner, your videos will have ads displayed next to your videos. Each time someone watches your video with the ad next to it, the advertiser gains exposure and in exchange you receive a small profit. Though, it's something very small like a penny for every thousand views. Clicks earn more.
