  • for years i thought that John Williams, the acoustic guitarist for Sky, was the same John Williams who wrote the score for Star Wars, he wasn't unfortunately. Even so John Williams = Musical genius

  • Anybody who knows where I could find a tab or sheet for this version of the song for a whole band? :P (a rock band like this not orchestra) :) would be perfect :D

  • from Russia, never see the most profesional group

  • Lo! Johann Bach climbs out of his grave.... and rocks!

  • Holy Guacamole.....this is a fantastic rendition....i have my fave renditions of this song, the Vanessa Mae version, and the version from Gyruss (Modern version on the modern consoles) but this is very much in a league of its own.

  • I had heard this when i was a child ,i liked the piano part so much i never for got it. I LOST THE CASSET ,IT FELT SO GOOD TO HEAR IT AFTER A LONG TIME. it is in fact a briliant composition.

  • Heej - jeeeeej!

  • SO AWESOME

  • Predivno!!!!!!

  • I had this on cassette in the 80s which got lost when our drummer (who borrowed it from me) had a car crash, he was ok, the tape did not survive.

  • Jhon Williams.

  • My late father loved this, so we got him the single, which he played until we were thouroghly sick of it. I have not listened to it much since - it's hard to separate the tune from memories of my dad. It's a difficult listen. I won't be listening to it in the near future because of that. The music, however, is genius.

  • @brianartillery

I got it the same. I father loved this song played by famous Czech guitar player. And as really young i didn´t appreciate the quality. Few days ago i heard few tones ofToccata in a shopping mall, immediately thought about my father (who died last year) and i had to sit down and i cried like a little boy. Now i listen to this song when i want to think about my dad

  • Superb!...brings back so many memories. I used to travel on the train from Nottingham to Liverpool quite regularly and used to while away the the journey watching the stunning views of the pennines through the train window while listening to Sky on my walkman

  • remeber when music was music and now I finaly re-discovered it :) thank you Its good to be a human again :)

  • i knew it from 1980 i like it. it is a masterpiece. However exception make also a nice version of this masterpiece

  • Love John's bit.. love it all! Classic,,,

  • I have the original album and this track used to get worn out. Great!

  • forgot who these guys were with growing up an all listening to all the crap they play on radio i finaly woke up from my music coma and found sky again happy days

  • If the drummer puts his glasses in the table, someone will stub out his cigarette...

  • This piece of music is a work of art.Everything about it is right.

  • I must say, when i searched for 'tocatta & fugue rock' i was expecting something loke funtwo's canon rock, but this works, too!

  • I love sky. And all of it

  • How good is the guitar tone in this piece! Gibson L5S I believe.

  • can anyone upload the song westway? used to love that tune, late night driving with my dad!

  • Sky is an Aussie line-up, not UK.

  • @oscarian Anglo-Australian. Flowers, Fry and Monkman are British and Williams and Peak are Australian.

  • @adam872 Oh! Forgive me, I'm an Australian Guitarist, so I'm biased. Haha!

  • @oscarian It's all good :-) The most important thing is the music!

  • Awesome..... grew up with this sound of theirs and still be rolling with it :P

  • John Williams good guitarist but his politics and that of his family are fucked.

  • This classic recording of Bach's Toccata is brilliant. I remember from back in 1980. EPIC.

  • GREAT!! one of the best bands to play this song, am i right?

  • ♪音質が良く、演奏も見れて感動です。

    ありがとう (^.^)♫

  • brilliant tune fantastic .the two dislikes are tone deaf

  • great song - always liked it, I want my hair to be like the drummers

  • @mazmik Mine already is. :D

  • @mazmik i want a jumper like the bass guitarists

  • i want a toccata trouser....

  • If this does,nt get your foot tapping, then nothing will

  • oh my gosh !!! i was searching for this music for soo long ! my father had a VCR player and he was playing this all the time when i was a kid but i never knew the name of this band ! god bless you ! you just made my day!!

  • amazing, but it's a bit corny to be honest

  • mint. That is cool!!

  • who needs the dislike button ???

  • it gives me the creeps. they kick ass!

  • He has hairy hands.

  • @101rocketmail : Being hairy was regarded as cool for men and was all the rage in the 70s. Beards and moustaches were also fairly common back then. ;)

  • @Mystikan Creepy....

  • Remember this being used as the theme tune for 'Breakaway', an obscure British detective series starring Martin Jarvis...

  • I love this

  • First class music from SKY

  • these are the musicians of sparta, they blow their combatants away with the epicness of their skill.

  • huao....

  • Bach by chyba z grobu wyskoczył gdyby to usłyszał...

  • Two people obvi. have no soul.

  • Absolutely brilliant song but waht about that sweater on the bass player and the Deidre Barlow glasses on the drummer!!!!!!

  • I bought the album a way back when and hated all the other songs! still this track kicks arse

  • Superb stuff, thanks for posting.

  • Never seen the vid for Tocatta before - thanks for uploading!

  • I don't want to know the 2 people that disliked this...

  • @degooser2000

No, it's Thelma from Scooby Doo

  • Is that Roy Orbison on the drums?

  • SUPER!

  • WOW, I grew up to this stuff but never seen the video. Intensely awesome video!

  • I grew up on sky's albums, What fantastic music xxxx

  • I saw these guys at the State Theatre in Sydney, and to say they were truly amazing would be a total understatement......... the concert went for 3 hours!!!

This was the final piece they did, and it just blew the audience away!

  • sorry about the double post... my bad!

  • When I first picked up the sticks at the age of 8, one of the first pieces of music I played to, or at least attempted to play to.. was SKYs' Tocatta and fugue in D MInor. From when I first heard that track, Tristan fry became an example to me of excellence. something for me to aspire to. It's little wonder then that I'm so hard to please or impress. Years on, there are of course others I am guided by.. but your first is always your best! Here's to the old gods!

  • Love the drumming from 2:52

  • 2 People have no taste in music

  • het voelt als thuiskomen :-))

  • sounds like an epic video game boss battle. . XDD

  • I bought this LP(yes,a record) in the eighties, and played it full bore on my STEREO!!!! How great would it sound with all the enhancements of technology now?? True talent from these guys!!!!!!!

  • epic stuff! me likey!!!

  • X factor viewers, you see this? This IS talent !

  • Shit, this takes me back. I saw their first ever concert at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh (I am very old). I was totally blown away. At the end they did an encore of this number, with Francis Monkton moving to the huge pipe organ in the hall..... Majestic.

  • Not forgetting Francis monkman on keyboards ;D

  • And presenting on the drums.... The Big O himself...Roy Orbison!!!

  • didnt ever know he drummed. havent heard this for 30years!!!! fucking brilliant

  • @laiosto hahahahaha

  • How many people did this song make tune into classical music?I still remember seeing it for the first time and was blown away by the dude's drum kit.

  • tabs for the fugue??? :)

  • @hawklord67 I count 5 genius' ! keyboard,1 drummer,! bass,1 Acoustic and 1 Lead guitarist.

I knew a guy in a band and they used to do this on the Club circuit, awesome live even when covered by a simple UK club turn

  • Classic stuff - haven't heard this for thirty years. Thanks for posting it.

  • I've got 5 og 6 of their albums - since early /mid 80s - so it's of course on LP - this just went to remind me buy the best of them on CD next time I go looking for music - WAY too long have I missed out on this Barock'n'roll

  • O.o :D

  • You dont need anything but good music and good musicians to make a brilliant video. This is a fine example of that!

  • Blimey! It's a long time since I last heard this - Genius!

  • every time I hear this it sends tingles down my spine,

  • Music is great and so is the 1980's audio crackle that just adds something that new clean video clips do not have....a classic.

  • Tristran Fry, drumming the dream.

Simon Cowell and everyone else involved in the current bilge infecting the charts should be tied to chairs and force fed this at 150 decibels.

    Yes, it might kill them.

    It's a chance I think we're all prepared to take :-)

  • @Chalkerfan Cowell is the Antichrist of music - he couldn't care less about quality, only money.

  • @rabates123 it's called a music business. don't be an idiot.

  • @queenmcsleaze Gee thanks. Feel better now?

  • @rabates123 i confess after i posted that i thought better of it - i reacted to all this ''he just watns money'' stuff - simon cowell is (in) the music business, not art-for-arts-sake. art-for-arts-sake doesnt pay any bills at all.

  • @Chalkerfan c'mon there's not really any point in saying that though is there

  • @Chalkerfan

Also a slim chance it might do some good!

  • @Chalkerfan That is one of the best comments I've ever read.

  • @Chalkerfan Could not agree more!

  • @Chalkerfan if not our group will literally hh4xmasno1

  • A masterpiece!

    *****

  • Gentlemen, please! Can we not convene here, in peace, to enjoy this fabulous piece? Forget about the mediocre and the soon-forgotten, this is true music, let us not squander it's beauty through squabbling!

  • I was privileged enough to see these guys at London's Barbican back in the mid 80s. Fab concert. Been a life-long fan of John Williams, so this track was all in a day's work for him - he barely breaks a sweat lol.

  • first time iv heard this in years. all i can say is oh yeah baby

  • Fuckin Brilliant

  • It might be 30 yrs old...but by god those guyswill last longer than 21st century shit!!

  • wow what great music they are masters

  • The one idiot that disliked this video must be a Justin Bieber fangirl cunt.

  • @thrashmetalfiend Word up.

  • @thrashmetalfiend you moron

  • @ericmesser1 No, you're the moron.

  • @thrashmetalfiend tristan fry was the drummer, a really good guy and a fabulous musician....I don't know much about justin bieber but why you would use the "c" word about him in relation to the sky drummer amazes me.....sorry for calling you a moron,,,,,you are obviously not the sharpest crayon in the box and you should seek help......maybe get justin to help you, he probably has more money now than you could ever dream about

  • @ericmesser1 I never said anything about Tristan Fry, and I agree that he's a fabulous musician. I just used the word "cunt" to describe the typical Justin Bieber fan (look at their reaction towards Esperanza Spalding winning a Grammy over Bieber to see why). Bieber may have losts of money now, but he'll be forgotten once his shelf-life runs out. Perhaps it's YOU that isn't the sharpest crayon in the box.

  • Surely this is one video that doesn't need a dislike button! You have to be dead not to appreciate the musicianship of these guys and the overall mastery of Johann Sebastian Bach

  • This song had me by the balls whe i was a wee lad. Brilliance!

  • This is awesome... I've never heard of the band before. The Black Mages sound a lot like them... I think I'm going to educate myself a bit :)

  • Tristan Fry looks like a total uber-geek, but what a freakin monster drummer! These guys kick so much ass they need to see a chiropodist (That's where the idea for Chiropodie No.1 came from)

  • amazing song

  • First heard this back when I was 10 in 1980. Onward from Sky within the arcade game Gyruss !

  • I first watche dthis video almost 30 years ago and I still like it a lot.

  • To the one single person that disliked this... SHAME ON YOU!

  • Wonderful!!! Had the album, still love this!

  • I went and saw them when they came to Brisbane back in 1982. Loved it then and still love it today

  • Awesome performance by real musicians. I had forgotten how brilliant this was. Great stuff

  • This song kicks some serious ass.

  • zoveel jaren terug hebben we ze zien spelen in Amsterdam

ver van onze heimat.. de reis duurde langer dan het concert

    amazing!!

  • Recently saw Herbie Flowers playing in Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds,,he was fantastic and he still uses that bass guitar.

  • Is the keyboard player David Walliams's dad (from little Brittain fame) :-)

  • @karlcurtis10 I thought he looks more like Nigel Kennedy

  • @karlcurtis10 lol..looks like him !!....thats Francis Monkman....he did the theme for the long good friday as well.

  • i never knew Julian Assange was the keyboard player for SKY, before Wiki Leaks fame!?

  • Oddly enough, Toccata was never one of my favorite Sky pieces, but I was so young then. I grew up a lil, n rediscovered Toccata, n absolutely LOVED it, n still do!

These boys REALLY know how to play music!

  • Why is everybody so bothered by Lady Gaga, she's only out there for 11 year old girls who want to know what a disco stick is right?

This is a band of musicians, lady Gaga is a cabaret entertainer, you cannot and should not compare the two.

  • Pure genius, absolutely brilliant.

  • Ref: So Called Musicians of Today - Grumpy Old Men Gripe!!

I think your "rose tints" may be affecting your judgement!

Ah! Nostalgia - It ain't what it used to be in my day!

    Lady Gaga = Vocalist - Musician - Songwriter -Style - Talent & 100% Original!

Sky - Toccata = XFactor - Make it their own - Commercial Plagiarism of J.S.Bach!!

Guess Who Clearly Wins The "Talent Contest" Guys!! QED

  • @LordDavrosLives Hmmm....ok, each to their own but if you really dont like nostalgia, as you call it, and prefer lady gaga then why not just stick to the bubblegum pop?

Oh, keep in mind that Sky were doing this something like 30 years ago and Herbie Flowers is still playing....

I just wonder what Ms Gaga will be doing in 30 years???

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Miód! Thx. Lepszej wersji nie znam. Nie bylo takiej. :)

    Plyta ciut tylko trzeszczy... :)))))

  • Miód! Thx. Lepszej wersji nie znam. Nie bylo takiej. :)

  • Miód! Thx.

  • omg! I remember buying this LP! Must've been 1980ish!Fantastic! What a memory - and what talented musicians!!

    Rich

  • 1 минута и 17 секунда бомба

  • I can't believe it is 30 years ago when this was released!

The lead guitarist is Kevin Peek. His daughter worked at my company for a couple of years!

  • @asd36f She can go and visit Daddy in jail

  • very good, sounds very retro, but its still good !

  • I prefer this to the classical version. Fantastic. :-D

  • i have the 45

  • @sexycrich

Thanks, you just reminded me that I also have it on 45 somewhere. ;-)
