@HighTechMods OMG! Someone on the internet used "ironic" correctly. O2 is NECESSARY for life on Earth. Further, did you know O2 under pressure of about 1.6 bar is toxic and will kill you (diving,you get goofy, have convulsions, drown)? I don't know that ozone kills...there is debate. It is certainly a lung irritant that can lead to inflammation, asthma, infection of lung tissue, etc, but it's not as if it is like taking in a lungful of CO.

@kenfo0 lol yeah! and my chemistry professor told me that O2 in the form of ozone can kill you if given a large large dosage.. ozone is found in power tools when the oxygen mixes with something and the spark of electricity causes ozone to come out.. only if you were trapped in a room with ozone would it actually kill you.

Anything that displaces enough O2 from the air, for a long enough time, will kill you. Ground level O3, as in the weather alerts, will aggravate asthma and the like, but not kill you. here is a better factoid to crunch on: if water didn't have the property of being less dense when solid, there'd likely be no life on earth. Think on that.

@OdyOwnz look it up, as a welder for the last 20 yrs i know a bit about the subject. We breath air, not oxygen. Air is a compound gas, 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen and 1% other elements. Pure oxygen is highly flamable.

@OdyOwnz goeland is correct. you can breathe O2...look at the warning label on the medical equipment! Keep away from heat or flame! It will burn or explode. Why do cars make a lot more power on nitrous OXIDE? because you are adding a lot more oxygen to the combustion chamber than normal air.

Without the oxygen element , yes there would be no life on earth. Like propane, very flamable but only with right mixture of air, too much and it won't ignite, too little it won't ignite.

acetylene is a very very reactive gas. When mixed with oxygen its even more so. So the guys here have filled a balloon with both gases. But to trigger the reaction, you need a spark or flame. This came in the form of lighting the spray from an aerosol can to make a dodgy flamethrower.
