France had the power to knock out the Germans even after they invaded Belgium again, but the same politics that stalled any curbing of Hitler before World War II stalled the superior French army - the people wanted no part in another war. The idea that Hitler could have been stopped involves teleporting ourselves and our bravado back in time to do the right thing with hindsight driving us, ignoring reality.

Guilt by association is a very slippery slope, we could take it to equally damning heights with almost any creed or religion. Most people in the world simply want to live their lives with freedom and basic rights. Recent largely peaceful revolutions in the middle east attest to that.
