Mine just burned up today. I used this saw sparingly, and today while cutting I smelled burning and saw smoke coming from the back of the handle. Is there a way I can fix this thing myself? Are there bearings in it I can replace?
Question for you, do you know if its possible to cut a 2x4 stud in one cut with this saw? don't know if theres enough clearance to cut right through. Otherewise ill have to maybe consider the craftsman 6 1/8. thanks.
I plan on buying the 6 1/8" craftsman doublesaw and using it for scrapping/im glad I saw your vid b/c although craftsman has sold them for years noone else has a vid on here/i plan on using mine for aluminum mainly/and I'd use my torch for thick steal like the 50's buick/and the dualsaw by omni does spark also/and you can get the 6 1/8" for $88 shipped on ebay/the blades interchange w/the dualsaw/blades are cheap on ebay!
So what can this do against something tough? Like the frame of a 50's buick? Or how about cutting a car or truck tire in half? I want a cutting tool not only for actual work around the house but for scrapping too.
I see that Harbor Freight has a 5" saw back again, it's called the Double Cut Saw and it's on sale right now for 89.99, I'm curious how well it will work.
I think I would rather buy this craftsman saw instead of the omni dual saw because not only is the craftsman significantly less money , but it is also a name brand product that makes high quality tools and they will probably stand behind the product and give a much better warrantee and refunds on faulty products.
WOW ! ! I am impressed. - Not so much by the saw but very impressed by the fact he read up on how to get the most out of the blades and the saw. Imagine, if everyone read the instructions, how many problems would be avoided. Good for you magichess. - - Reasonably good review with important observations shared with us. - Thanks
I just got one under the Twincut Power Saw logo and it's simular to the earlier Omni DUAL saw which is on the TV commercials. I'd like some of the accesories, and hope Sears has some for it. The TCP saw sells for under 100$ on ebay, whereas the Omni Dual saw is over 100$. In Canada I guess it is under King dual saw.
for hobby use I think it's not worth paying the extra once you already have an angle grinder. but anyway, cutting speed is really impressive and because the exposure is short there's no thermal stress either. good stuff for a pro or contractor.
I think it would be ok for the sheet metal, I just don't recommend using it for heavy steel. Just don't force the saw to work faster than it wants to work or you risk burning up a motor.
I have a job coming up that requires alot of awning tin to be cut down to the correct sizes. Would this saw hold up to a few hundred feet of 20 gauge sheet metal?
The only difference I see is that the Omni Dual Saw last forever because of the Diamond Blades and the Craftsman Twin Saw Sparks when in contact with metal. The Omni saw does no spark.
If you need this outperforming technology for rescue and other hard apllications, look for TwinSaws. They have done a lot of major catastrophies in Germany within the last 6 years. KR
Hello Magichess - Just want to say thanks for this video. It makes such a big difference to see a REAL person doing a real test/review on a product. Thanks again.
The Omni Dual Saw and the Craftsman Twin Cutter sure look almost identical. Who is to tell which of the two is of better quality unless you own both or really worked extensively with both to be able to tell,,, so being that the Twin Cutter is $70.00 cheaper than the Omni Dual Saw I would buy that one first.
I don't think Omni has stolen Craftsman/Sears patent on this kind of saw with the dual counter-rotating blades. Patents do have an expiration date. I would think all you have to do is wait for a patent to expire and you can produce your own version of the device and sell it. Please, anybody, if I need correction with what I just said here, please do correct me. Thanks.
on the craftsman web site, i didnt see any diamond blades available for this but the wax sticks are 10.00, but it just doesnt look as tough as the dualsaw in pitchmen episode 2 (i think). i would rather by craftsman though, but they had comments about it smoking and dying, is it still working?
I think you could get away with regular candle wax, I haven't tried it but it would likely work fine. My saw is still working fine, except my blades are missing teeth now. These saws have no overload protection so if you allow the motor to bog down it will get hot and eventually burn out. I would recommend this saw for thin steel only and I feel it is better suited to cutting softer materials aluminum, wood, fiberglass, plastic. Have never tried the dual-saw but the principal is the same.
doesnt seem like they have made the perfect saw yet then, you would think craftsman would be on top of this stuff, there probably working on a better version but how are we supposed to know, anyways thanks again for the vid!!!
The problem with thing from harbor freight is that they are made with low grade part and really low quality. And things from there may be really cheap but they will last only a little bit
Thanks, the reason I made this video was because before I bought the saw I couldn't find much info or reviews online, so I thought I would give it a shot.
Still using the saw and it's working good. Now that I have it I'm finding I use it more and my zip cut wheels on my grinder less. I ended up using a zip tie to hold the guard in the open position so I could use the saw one handed, also find the on/off switch to require more effort than I would like to turn it on, a little stiff.
No, this is my first experience using a twin cutter saw, I see that some others are now starting to manufacture the same type of unit, I think they all use the lube sticks and are basically the same.

People now learn to put wax on the blade before cutting aluminum.

Canadian Tire in Canada sells them but I hate Mastercraft since they have a short life and do not honor warranties in my experience.

I'm watching Omni's Dualsaw ad right now, with Billy Mays and Anthony Sullivan.
Is there a difference in the quality between their saw and Craftsman's?

How does this perform when going through human bones? Is there any kickback? In which directions do the bits of bone and marrow fly?
eggbertsmith 2 years ago
When you cut aluminum you were cutting towards you. You should have cut it away from you

@Geno397 . Dude, the blades spin both direction so it doesn't matter.

for the record, craftsmen and sears have been selling this dual rotating saw for years. Omni has stolen the patent.
