  • Impresionante pero es fría y mecánica , no me llena

  • MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love marybeth

  • es impresionante

  • What an amazing interpretation of the first movement o the Tchaikovsky concerto... Unbelievable...

I believe unless you can play at their level you shouldn't say Anthony of her bowing or her technique... That way too pathetic...

  • CUANDO lo dificil se vuelve facil se hace arte

  • she really knows how to get that certain "sarah" effect every time. love her

  • Why does it seem like this is being played like a Kreutzer etude - and at a practice tempo...?

  • heh, she was in "the zone" there :)

  • may i know what concerto is this???please =)

  • @mediarakyat It the Tchaikovsky VIolin COncerto in D major OP. 35

  • This is the first movement of the Tchaikovsky violin concerto.

  • Does anyone know what movement this is, by Brahms correct? It is such a lovely piece that she does and I would like to hear it with the orchestra. Thanks :)

  • i like it when she's really feeling the music, and then she does the legendary leaning backwards thing of hers.. ^^

  • I think he is Charles Dutoit, am I right?

He was merried (I don´t know if they still are merried) with Martha Argerich. By the way, the Tchaikovsky´s Piano Concerto played by her, it´s here on youtube... If someone don´t know her, look for it. (Sorry my english). Thanks for the video.

  • Video quality is too crappy for anyone to put their 2cents into it :P so plox just peep down and enjoy the music with your eyes shut!

  • why do people use this to insult each other and try to prove their opinion is better than everyone else's?

Good music is a subjectively modified noun.

    People are people.

  • Chang's bowing is toooooo heavy!

  • FANTASTIC! But why is the room soo small??? The Acoustic is not the best... But it's amazing

  • que musica tan hermosa que lastima que los mexicanos no sepamos apreciarla ,nos dejamos influenciar por la chatarra que nos pasan en televisa y tv azteca

  • Lol who shit in your cereal bowl? And why do you believe Wikipedia it's a public domain site. Your trying to use that to prove your point? A teacer is someone who give you lessons and tips, which each violinist I named did for Sarah Chang. As far as Delay, I never said he didnt give her lessons, I just said those people did. And while your eatting your Shit flakes, listen to interpretation not just notes like some musical zombie haha.

  • I think its unfair to compare Sarah Chang and Heifetz because they have completely different styles. But Itzhak Pearlman tought Sarah Chang. Their dynamics and bowings are very similar. But I would say that Sarah Chang has reached a level of mastery that cant be topped only matched. She's up their with Heifetz, Pearlman, Stern and even Shlomo Mintz

  • you don t know what you are taking about, chang s teacher was delay

  • @jasonform Look up any site that says her teachers. Shlomo mintz, Midori Goto, Itzhak Pearlman and more. Get your facts straight before you talk shit lol.

  • lol ''She was admitted into the studio of the late Dorothy DeLay,[2] violin teacher to some of the world's great violinists including Itzhak Perlman, Midori Goto, Anne Akiko Meyers, Gil Shaham, Shlomo Mintz and many others'',this is from wikipedia read it retard. And you are trying to talk like someone who understands about music but each shit you say just proves that you now nothing fucking idiot. You say that perlmans and chang s bowings are similiar??wtf!!and the dynamics??OK....

  • I met Sarah Chang on Thursday :]

She was lovely. Very beautiful too xD

  • nice audio quality.

  • Charles씨 기합 빠졌군... 아무리 리허설이라지만 난닝구 입구 지휘하냐.. ㄷㄷ

  • Wow This woman Is Amazing 8D!!

  • I think you have some real issues mentally, so I don't think it's wise to respond to this comment that you have sent. May God heal you....

  • do you know how recent this is? doesn't seem too recent, but a Philadelphia Orchestra violinist just became a prof at my music school. Just curious as to if she's in this vid. :P

  • 2005. You can rent the whole DVD Blockbuster online. It is called Music from Inside Out.

  • i see. thanks! i'll check it out.

  • I need to know the name of this beautiful piece... who can help me???

  • tchaikovsky violinconcerto...1st movement...... almost few bars before the cadenza

  • At 0:23, Ms Sarah Chang took a look at the conductor, who seemed like he just rolled out bed, shook her head and politely smiled...

  • he is a great conductor. she has special relationship with him. they did tchaikovsky in montreal when she was younger. he is now at phildelphia orchestra.

  • Is he Charles Dutoit?

  • That would be Charles Dutoit conducting

  • oh yeah, that's him! He doesn't conduct Montreal symphony anymore

  • @jumpbuck8 it was not a glare they were communicating

  • @jumpbuck8 well, she has played this many times and finds it easy, perhaps he prefers rachmaninov

  • omg

I hope that I will play so good like she does later

  • SOO WONDERFUL

    AND SO IS MIDORI

  • It is SO SO WONDERFUL to see a young prodigy matured to be a great artist. Sarah Chang has demonstrated that to us.

This rendition if compare with her young debut with Charles Dutoit & the Montreal Sym is leaps and bounce more romantic and she is even more at ease (if that's possible)

    It simply is just beautiful.

I also love Midori's, but the two are just different.

I think this is a very good example of what different interpretation means and I hope the younger set would benefit from it..

  • Dear hong:

There is nothing impressive about this performance. It is prosaic if not downright dull.

The Tchaikovsky is one of the easiest concerti to interpret musically. It is so melodic and folkish, conquering the technical difficulties is the greatest challenge. This is particularly the case in the 3rd mov. when "the violin is no longer played; it is torn asunder and beaten black & blue."

To hear this concerto played well, listen to Heifetz & Oistrakh. SC is a big disappointment.

  • Thanks for writing. I treasure your opinion. I guess I continue to go back to Midori who is fiery and scarily good.

  • Dear Hong:

Midori is about as good as it gets these days, but I like her little brother better.

Heifetz was playing this concerto when he was about seven. You have to remember that being given a concerto to play was an honor. Most of the time was spent on scales & etudes.

Etudes can be quite musical, but they are devilishly difficult in a particular manner; e.g., Paganini's Caprices, which are among the toughest.

Listen to the Heifetz recordings of the Tchaikovsky. Then, listen to SC's.

  • well, you know, it's just the matter of taste. These musicians you mentioned are all very gifted musicians, but they all have different styles and not everyone has to agree that one is the best and the other one is not. Sarah Chang played 50 full concertos by the time she was 9. now she is in her late 20s and you are comparing her with Heifetz when he was much older. Some musicians get better over time, some get worse. So, I don't think we should compare them.

  • Comment removed

  • Why? Because she's Waaayyy younger? Please~~~don't give that 'master' bullshit. Sound like a fundamental christian brown-noser. Her technique is top notch if not the best among the best. Do I have to prove that in words? Heifez is dull. Perlman doesn't perform or record as much. More into teaching I believe. Besides, it's the 21st century. Both had their prime time. But no longer in this day and age.

  • If it is all so easy ,well can we all see and hear YOU play it then !!

  • Comment removed

  • what orcheestra is this? i see some of the finest musicians in the orchestra. CJ chang is the prinicipal violist there in the viola and he is one of the best violist around the world

  • Phildelphia

  • "best violist" is a oxymoron!

  • I am speechless.

  • Well, when confronted by musical perfection, the only thing you can do is listen in awe. I hope that one day I can be as good a violinist as Sarah Chang.

  • wow, I't breathtakin, I can't explain this what is happening in my mind when I'm listening to it :) keep on trucking :) I admire :)

in the future I'd play like she :)

  • could someone post the entire movie on youtube please?

  • It's so amazing !Too bad I've missed her concerto in DFP and Claus Peter Flor was conducting!!

  • crystal pure and beautiful, of course.

  • This is just a rehearsal...

  • you are joking, right?

  • I love the comment from the conductor at 35 seconds and how she smiles and shakes her head

  • what does he say?! i cant hear it...

  • It gives me chills - I can't explain it... it's a give and take communication between them. He seems to be indicating (to me) to her to pick it up a bit (tempo wise) ... and she shakes her head like "oh man" and she does it anyway because after all.. he is the Maestro.

  • umm that's not the cadenza. it is my favorite part in the piece though :)

  • Mine too! :]

  • Very cool thanks for posting that!

  • Under my favorites is a link to sarah at 12 years old playing with same conductor and same Cadenza

  • is that Charles Detoit conducting?

  • yes. he is now official conductor of Philadelphia Orchestra.

  • wow!

    thanks for this awesome footage!
