  • The Illusive Man, The Elusive Man and The Allusive Man. :D

  • For the people out there who dont get it, Cerberus is the name of a greek monster that was dog like with 3 heads...

  • Military, Scientific, Political.

Three divisions. I'unno, might make sense.

  • Maybe its TIM, Miranda, and Jacob?

  • Illusive man, kai leng, and reapers. The heads :)

  • THRREEEEE DOOOGGGG

  • If you read the dossier of Cerberus in the Shadowlord expansion it has some really good info in it.

  • I guess it's a reference to hades dogs. Because in greek mythology the dog of Hades is called cerberus. And it's a three headed dog.

  • @ThijsVisser122 And there's a quest in ME1 related to Cerberus called Hades' Dogs

  • why does that feel like Bioware is trolling us with false info

  • If I'm right, it's a fallout 3 reference ( 3 dog)

  • @99deadliestwarrior ...It's a Mythology referance. --

  • @LadyLatias oh, well then...case closed

  • That give me an idea...what if Cerberes is lead by somone else who by this point stayed in the shadows ? I guess I find out in ME 3.

  • @BossPanzer Illusive man didn't betray you and the other two leaders are objective T.I.M?

    (not spoilers, shown on trailer)

  • @Th3Fr33man I don't watch ME3 trailers in order to avoid spoilers.

  • Martin Sheen could have played three parts!!!

  • The Illusive Man is a cyborg and his robot eyes are cameras that the real heads of Cerberus look through!

  • because the Illusive man's eyes are both miniature heads

  • Why won't the fucking game developer's make Joker a romance interest for fem!shep already?

  • @Athena908 Uh cuz if she went down on him she'd probably crush his legs:P

  • @hattrickster33 Cerberus can bring someone back from the dead, but can't cure Vrolik Syndrome? I call bullshit BioWare! D:

  • Joker is fucking awesome.

  • FACTS ARE FACTS JOKER

  • The really funny thing about this? With this logic it would make more sense to call the Council Cerberus.

  • @giantWario council = 4 members

  • @DeepbloodEclipse Only in Mass effect 2 if you saved the council and even then, its pretty obvious Anderson doesnt hold any real power.

  • @giantWario

Still though, if the council dies there is still only 1 member (udina)

  • @giantWario Council did not co-operate with him about the reapers, but they wasn't any sings that they've been undermining him otherwise. They only met him halfway by reinstating Shepard spectre status, true, but that's what democracies do. If you let the council die however the human led council/pure human council proves be totally unreasonable, refusing to have anything do with shepard. Anderson will be able to reinstate shepard alone, so he does have real power, but not absolute power.

  • Cerberus is the dog in Greek Mythology that guards the entrance to Tartarus -- the Greek version of Hell. Cerberus protects the interests of humanity the way its mythological counterpart guards the entrance to Hell.

  • Cerberus might have 3 heads but still only has one dick.

  • @CidHighwindRocks I see what you did there

  • @CidHighwindRocks BEST COMMENT EVER

  • Cerberus (the organisation) has multiple cells, the dog had multiple heads. Simple.

  • @OblivionSilk who's to say there are only three? not so simple

  • @OblivionSilk who's to say there are only 3 cells? have you seen anything to solidify your point? no? not so simple then, is it?

  • @SoCalAries You're not getting my point. Im not saying that cerberus has 3 cells. Im saying that it mimics the legendary beast that could attack you from multiple directions thanks to three heads, like the hydra.

  • @OblivionSilk i didnt know that cerberus could attack from multiple directions, and to me it doesnt seem plausible without long serpentine necks. most often it's portrayed with short necks. just sayin. however if that's what the mythology says, ill give you that. i just found your post to sound cocky and too self-assured, so i was attempting to give you a sliver of doubt for humbleness' sake

  • It could be that Cerberus has one body (illusive man) but 3 minds (his type personality that he only shows in the entire game)

  • I don't get the joke - _ - I know Cerberus is a three-headed dog and I know Cerberus is run by the Illusive Man but theres a joke here.

  • @Dtiger02 There's no joke just a confused poilet with Vrolik's syndrome. With a good point too...

  • Ahhh, but, what if I told you Joker that the 2 cybernetic implants in his eyes are actually TINY TINY little people who run the finantial and social elements of Cerberus?

Or the leader of Cerberus is actually fluffy the 3 headed dog from Harry Potter.

    Take your pick

  • Isn't cerberus part of greek myth. The one that guards the gate to death?

  • @Danchamp07 Yeah. It was also used in Dante's Inferno and even Harry Potter though, so it's not restricted to greek mythology.

  • @gilless429 Umm... they got the idea from Greek mythology, of course.

  • @50033836 Probably, in a way. Why ?

  • @gilless429 Because it's a badass mythological creature.

And "probably"? The Greek myth is over 2000 years older than either Dante's Inferno or Harry Potter. How could the 3-headed dog possibly NOT be from the ancient myth?

  • @50033836 It's over 2000 years older yes. So ? This game wasn't made 2000 years ago. So it could have been from any source. It could have just been off the top of their head that they thought of cerberus as a cool name. I wouldn't need to search greek mythology to think of that name.

  • @gilless429 Every source containing the word "Cerberus" would have gotten it from Greek mythology, or from a source that got the word from Greek mythology.

It's too old and archaic word to be re-invented.

  • @50033836 Never said the contrary. But what you're talking about here is what was the first source for the word Cerberus. What we were talking about was what was the source for this use of the word Cerberus.

  • @gilless429 Well, for that, you've got to find out where they got it from, and where that source got it from, and where that source got it from, and so on. Eventually, I'll be right. *cackles and flees*

  • @50033836 Nope. Yet again you seem to confuse finding the source of the info and the first source, te original source. If a friend gives me a tip on, I don't know, how to kill this or that boss, which he/she was told by someone else who was told that by someone else, etc... The source of the tip for ME is my friend. For my friend it's the one before, and on and on. But this is starting to get into a semantics debate over "source". I guess it always comes to semantics.

  • @gilless429 I suppose that's fair enough. :-)

  • why have I never heard these? xD

  • does he just talk if you stand by the bridge? I never heard these ones.

  • Cerberus:

Employees < Illusive Man < Reapers

Look, three branches of Cerberus :D

  • I think this is foreshadowing that Cerberus is actually led by three people not just illusive man.

  • Illusive man acts as the main body maintaining group's vital operational capacity, heads represent Cerberus sub-qroups which act by executing his commands he around the galaxy~~? Or whatever, Joker's right.

  • Personally I like that you only have to take crap from one guy, I'd hate to deal with a council of jerks.

  • @Igarappappa Been there, done that.

  • @antihitler372 Exactly.

  • @Igarappappa

To be fair though, you don't get to hang up on TIM as much xD

  • @Igarappappa oh wait...

  • yep

  • Before Shepard appeared, weren't Miranda and Jacob his main people?

    That's three

  • Yo dawg! I heard you like Cerberus, so we put 2 heads on yo dog so yo dog can bark like a dog wlile he barks like a dog, dog.

  • @ginganinja714 your GF, (if any) has my puppies...dawg.

  • @Zandonus Hah! Joke's on you! I have no girlfriend! Ha ha-oh.

  • @ginganinja714 what i meant was, i like cats.. >_> read between the lines...

  • Each of the Illusive Man's technoeyes count as another head.

  • @SeraphimSwordmaster its pretty obvious the eyes look just like reaper tech. hes some kind of minireaper, like a minicon.

  • @Pimpmastahanhduece Massformers! Reapers in disguise!

  • FORESHADOWING

  • One guy, three cups -- oh wait.

  • COUGHforeshadowingCOUGH

  • Perhaps in ME3, Shepard can recruit the lone wanderer?

  • @brocushelm

oh that would be unfair for the repears

  • If I quite remember from the codex, there was certain unwanted guests coming from the Charon system. Therefore Cerberus was created to watch out for human interests. In greek mythology, Charon was the boatman who ferried spirits across the lake to the underworld, and the three-headed dog Cerberus guarded the entrance to the underworld. So yeah, guess that's how the name Cerberus was thought up.

  • its three daug!!! awooooo!!

  • @koyax16 and you're listening to Galaxy News Radio :)

  • To Explain all your toughts about this, Cerberus is from the Greek Mythology, it's a '' hellhound '' and favorite pet of Hades, the God of Death/Underworld . Cerberus is memorized as a three-headed dog, with demonic eyes and the guardian of entrance to the underworld. Search it on google

  • i think there is 3 cerberus has 3 people alive apart from sheperd thats funny

  • Bah, Cerberus has fifty heads.

  • A buddy of mine made up a story saying that the three heads of Cerberus were the illusive man (provided the money), the shadow broker (provided the intel), and Mr. Thax (provided the resources). Doesn't makes to me honestly. A interesting thought though, thumbs up if you agree

  • @602Lockdown No, Cerberus and Shadow Broker were at odds a few times. I forget who Thax is....

  • I think Cerberus is Alliance Black Ops.

  • @CrossConsoleGamer Well in so the story so far it been said that it used to be an alliance black Ops branch that defected after the war or sth...

  • Logical Response: Read the Codex.

Fun Response: Because they couldn't get James Wood and Christopher Lee to voice in the game with Martin Sheen.

  • There are three branches to cerberus. All headed by the Illusive Man.

  • Renegade response:

"And how come you don't just shut the fuck up and pilot this god damn ship like you're supposed to."

  • @Poondaddy804 Paragon response:

"Good question, Joker! I'll ask the Illusive Man next time I see him! Now, here's a raise, and I'll replace EDI with a hot hooker that'll spoon you on command!"

  • @mesmesh12 Middle response"

''I have no strong feelings about the name of the company I am working with, or it's name.''

  • Cerberus is the name of the three-headed dog of Hades.

  • Comment removed

  • That's actually a really good point. What if the Shadow Broker or someone else mysterious is helping run it? Like, one good guy, one bad guy, and a neutral guy.

I haven't played Lair yet, so forget I said anything about the Shadow Broker.

  • @oyeboy94 Maybe the original shadow broker....not the one after him though.

  • @hattrickster33

    Indeed. That would be cool.

  • @oyeboy94 yea hopefully in the next game we find out more about him or her.

  • @hattrickster33 Wasn't he removed some decades before the current time in the game?...I don't think humanity was part of the galactic community back then....

  • @mormegil231 Yea...and the next game takes place mostly on Earth anyway.

  • @oyeboy94 apart from shepered in cebrus apart from edi cause she is edi ilussive man miranda jacob are the 3 alive cerberus members alive weird

  • Because the Illusive Man has enough ego to fill three heads. >_<

  • TIM can mutitask!!

  • Talk to EDI scrubs. When you understand that Cerberus is organized into 3 divisions(EDI says the actual word for it) you'll get the name.

  • @XlHammerlX Not to mention a cerberus is supposed to be a kind of guard dog... their orginization guards the safety of humanity.. but also trys to move it forward..

  • Thats....a very good point, why is it only lead by one guy? Security measure?

  • because the illusive man is also known as three dog so its all good

  • @kagehunt1134 lol hes a disc jockey for some world destroyed by nuclear disaster??

  • @kagehunt1134 lol three dog is from fallout 3....

  • You know...... I never, once, thought about it...

  • he's mistaking Cerberus's form with it's function.

in greek mythology, Cerberus was the guard dog of the underworld, and would prevent anyone from escaping, in essence keeping the living world safe from the threat of the dead.

the fact that Cerberus had three heads was incidental, as many of the beasts in greek mythology had multiple extra heads or appendages.

the point being, Cerberus is an organization (gruff though it may be) designed to keep humanity safe from external threat.

  • @Kakerot4141 Cool story bro.

  • I do believe that in Cerberus` case, only one head controlled the entire body. The other two functioned as they should, of course, but the body was under the control of the central head. If you look at most of the original art of Cerberus done by the Greeks, you'll notice that the central head is also slightly different in appearance than the other two. Of course, I might also be incorrect. Been a while since I did anything involving Greece.

  • I second this motion

  • illusive man have his eyes an the two see through eyes (EYE CAM) just a theroy makes sense is terms with those (@)__(@) EYES

  • @creapsmantic you should read the mass effect comics. it explains his eyes.

  • @petrino yeah i read it his eyes are just husk eyes right ?

  • @petrino ... no theyre reaper tech. the husks made by the geth/sovreign/saren are different from the ones made by the collectors, so we can assume the eyes the illusive man got from THIS particular beacon is different too, the people who intereacted with the turian beacon was transformed into stronger smarter brutes than the husks we have seen so far.

for some reason that didnt happen to the illusive man.

  • He makes a good point.

  • good q, why is it only lead by one guy

  • Mind Fuck

  • WHAT.
