@ElliePearl You know, sometimes I wish we would hear more wrong notes. Free exploration/experimentation usually comes with them, and they really are a negligible price to pay for the magic that happens when talented people let go, musically, instead of focusing on perfection in well-rehearsed comfort zones. (Not that the aim of perfection doesn't have its place, but we have much more of that then the "letting go".)
@ggnt I agree with you entirely. What I love about Kempff is that he brought something so individual and beautiful to the pieces he played. Like Cortot or Cziffra, you could always be excited, because they were artists, not just pianists.
@ElliePearl Technique is important, but interpretation must be primary. It should be striven, but it must always head towards the piece, not for the sake of technique itself. I do believe that the two aren't far from each other, but then there are pianists who could create magnificent performances even with numerous dropped notes and tell me otherwise. I think Cortots playing in general, especially in his Beethoven concerto, shows this.
But not to care about dropped notes? I don't think so...

ah, per me il finale deve essere confuso, far sentire l'impeto e l'ira...... non scandire le note in quel modo.... va be' questione di gusti....

Splendida interpretazione...!

This version comes from the 32 piano sonatas recorded around 1970 for the bicentennial of Beethoven's birth
