  • tobi juji gatame nice move, thank goodness judo helped sambo grow!! we judoka love sambo

  • Damn, almost got this to work in a sparring match with a friend but I wasn't confident enough with what i was doing so he ended up getting the upper hand again.

  • Thanks! No problem :-)

  • ohhhh sorry i thought u were talkin about the martial art itself not the flying armbar my badd

  • Wow; that's just not true; BJJ adapted this from Sambo in the 1970's (as did Judo). I was around at the time

  • @Daynd bull shit not judo, judo was invented in 1882

  • @Fallen385 Sorry; you may not like it, but the move's not that ancient - it was popularized by Russian Judoka/Sambist (Novikov or Nevzerov) who locked out Okano Isao with a surprise move. He did the "sliding" version, but it showed the tactic's worth and soon after people were studying the flying armbar. The first reference to it in English was a translation of "Vital Judo: Grappling techniques" by Isao Okano.

  • @Fallen385 It was demonstrated in that book by Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki, who was a World Sambo Champion. He and his College Coach, Nobuyuki Sato both studied and competed in Sambo; this was in order to scout out and neutralize surprising Soviet tactics. Kashiwazaki "came home" with that one and taught it.

  • @Fallen385 I even have a picture of Noguerra reading the book. BTW; the Judo of 1882 was much different than Judo now. I'm a Kodokan Yodan in Judo and a Master of Sport in Sambo...along with a USJA recognized Godan in Jujutsu; I "have no horse in the race" about pride in where it came from.

  • why you call this sambo this is a clasic jui-jiusto technique wich does exist for a few hunderd years

  • like so

  • i tried to do this in wrestling

  • This is excellent instruction. Thanks for a great explanation of this complex move.

  • keep pressing 6 lol

  • one of my favorite amr locksss , good technik also i love sambo

  • I'm always too afraid of going for it. Like doing a back flip off a board...just can't bring myself to get over the hump.

  • sambo is a wickid martial art

  • Висюлька!

    :)

  • he kinda looks like joe swanson, from family guy. Huge upper body...tiny lower body

  • Sure use the asian guy.lol

  • Nice!!!

  • that's not how i do it. i do this no-gi from a collar tie, trap his arm against my chest, lift one of my legs as if i'm doing an o soto gari, fall back with my shin against his chest, control of his arm and his neck and bring the other leg over his head

  • 2:14

    GAYEST MOMENT

    EVVVAAA

  • You make it look so graceful and easy. Excellent video, lovely technique!

  • Tremendous example of a hard-to-do technique! My hat's off to you!

In some ways, a little similar to throws in wrestling, Greco-Roman style in particular. The initiator has to remove any fear or doubt from one's mind before attempting these maneuvers, and have real confidence.

Sambo was supposedly Russian in origin, and they put it in their Olympics in 1980. We had judo, two types of wrestling, then Sambo - perhaps too many styles of wrestling (or MMA)?? Before UFC was in vogue...

  • haha last rear in my gym class i would run up to ppl and do this to them randomly its hilarious

  • I'm gonna do this to my friend

  • :) look 2:14

  • In soviet russia ... ???

  • in easier terms u could have just thrown ur weight on him and use it to flip him over

  • Why don't you try to bend you arm so instead of making it an unnatural bending, you dont get damaged.

  • man your instructions are great, especially in a fight with an untrained individual because they won't know anything about prevention of move of reversal or how to get out. great job

  • very good english

  • Русские рулят!! Russians ftw

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST only just lol.....its won me a few competitions now lol.....they never see it coming ha ha ha

  • i saw this and tried it in judo today......some very suprised looks lol

  • he made it seem so easy hahaha

  • good stuff!

  • Your English in exceptionally good, Vlad!

  • is?

  • @Awlo81 it is very good :)

  • Брат я не плачу,все супер!название очень нравиться и не обычное!а так я за здоровый образ жизни!Будь здоров!

  • and you will have a broken arm!

  • It's not so easy to counter when you don't know it's coming. You're all talk.

  • yeah but anything is easy to counter when you know its comming, the point this move (like all moves in judo and sambo) is you are trying to catch your opponont of gaurd

  • Висюлька)))ой плакаю))Тренер говорит прием називаеться Висюлька

  • try judo, there's no shoes....

  • i dlove to learn sambo but its this shoes that might be a little hard for me to get use to if you understand me

  • can heavyweights perform this move??

  • ofc

  • LoL

  • most heavyweights do a sort of falling version of it rather than actually jumping

  • liek tome nage to jujigatame

  • if they can jump that high lol

  • ya fedor emilianenko does

  • why not?

  • Ive seen interviews where Helio says he learned everything from Carlos, but i've also seen an interview with Gastao Gracie where he claims Carlos studied under Maeda. Maeda studied sumo, then Judo under Kano. Back when Kano sent Maeda out the art was still called 'Kano jiu jutsu' which is probably where the name confusion came from. Unfortunately i couldnt find it on youtube, but it's on the GJJ basics dvd volume 4 if you really want to see.

  • This is a really well-done instructional video.

  • The Gracies are magical and invented BJJ and they are the only ones who know all the magical secrets. LOL Sambo and BJJ are getting more and more similar all the time. Most of the techniques are the same. BJJ schools don't focus on leg locks because of all the kids involved in it. They are afraid of kids getting hurt and them getting sued.

  • JUDO!!!

  • sambo judo goshin jujistu

    same thing.....

  • for me its also JUDO!!!

  • First off, I meant no disrespect to the Gracies and what they've done for grappling, so calm down, lol. Maybe my wording was a bit harsh, but ive never seen those quotes, although i have read interviews where GM Helio claims that Maeda taught him old styles of japanese jujutsu. Tons of people who 'know there shit' online claim BJJ came from Fusen Ryu, or some other such nonsense. Your opinion is probably more well informed than mine if you really train with the Gracies.

  • Also, i agree that people should spend less time arguing, more time training. The point i was trying to make originally is that none of the 3 are superior to the others, just different. My first teacher had actually studied all 3 and just called what he taught 'grappling.'

  • same thing, just like the brazilians.ripping off judo and dont even give credit. ill just wear shorts and its not judo.

ill just focus on newaza and play around with do-osae and break away from tachiwaza.

  • Yeah, except the founder of Sambo actually died for not denying his art's link to Judo and Jigoro Kano, and the Gracie's just deny that Maeda was a Judoka to build up BJJ's reputation.

Nowadays all 3 arts are distinct despite the common heritage. BJJ did take some influence from Maeda's days as a catch wrestler and obviously has a more intricate groundgame , while sambo places more emphasis on leglocks, and has different throws from russian styles of wrestling.

  • 5 stars

  • He wasted so much time explaining. Good video but all of that could have being demonstrated in a 1 minute video.

  • Stiffening your arm is bad. The best way to compare this is to a stiff penis. If its stiff, it can easily brake.

  • @fillosofert LOL Whattttt!!!!!!!

  • @fillosofert thats true about the penis is it ???

  • @fillosofert erectile dysfunction much? I am glad to have a stiff penis, and no girl has broken it yet...bad comparison bro, very bad....

  • @fghjhgf99- grow up pal, u know what he means. It is a good comparison, so stop being pedantic and trying to find excuses to pretend your not a fat homosexual who's never had a girl.

  • @chemicalxi6 lol can't say that I've ever been fat, and what's the point of saying shit to someone you never even seen?

  • @fillosofert

    idk feels good man.

  • @fillosofert Lol...the penis cant break...:P

  • @fillosofert great comparison, man but only you don't play sambo with your dick

  • @fillosofert penises cant break.. xD but that was so funny to read xD

  • @jaimeexd yeah they can mate

  • @skipdanlahitman penises can't break since they don't got a bone... it can only bend that much that it hurts like hell.. nothing more or less. I will close this subject cause talking about penises isn't really my thing. I'm all about V-a-g-i-n-a. :3

  • @skipdanlahitman

no they cant. They can hurt from being bent so much and even bruise, but break? no...

  • @fromstart2finish "We had this patient who suffered penile fracture after running across the room and trying to penetrate his wife with a flying leap. " - Hunter Wessells, chair of the urology department at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

    Believe.

  • @snakeford

I think the doc made a medical term error :P

    but whatever....

  • same, in judo, sambo, freestyle wrestling, aikido, hapkido, jiu jitsu and bjj they told me never to stiffen our arms

  • Yeah... Cause flying armbars are such an integral part of freestyle wrestling

  • Good look bud for sure.. thing is need to say even though im sombo and judo and stuff but I never teach stif arming, you never should extend you arms but when any reach for you you should have already shot or thrown him.
