Why would a driver just sit at a stop light and allow his truck to be hit by a train? Run the freaking red light. A ticket would be minor compared to the alternative. This happened to a friend years ago when two cars (one turning across oncoming traffic) stopped suddenly in front of him, leaving him on the tracks. As a train approached, he simply shoved the two cars forward to move his truck off the tracks. The car driver turning was ultimately ticketed for dangerously obstructing traffic.
The light turned green so the driver pulled forward, then the oncoming Surfliner tripped the track circut and the traffic like turned red as the truck was on the track. Not wanting to pull into traffic the understandably confused driver stopped. That intersection is partially to blame. And the truck drivers poor luck to boot. Also that's not the only time a semi was hit by a train. A Metrolink knicked a big rigg a while ago also. Not a good route for trucks I'd say ;-)

Not truck drivers fault entirely. The intersection was poorly designed, that's why somebody was documenting it. The light turned green and then red so the truck got stuck.

One of the most important rules of driving is that you NEVER begin to cross over a grade crossing unless there is ALREADY enough room on the other side for you. This means that you never cross just behind the car infront of you, because a green light can turn red and cause you to stop on the tracks. It was entirely the truck driver's fault for not remembering this simple and crucial rule.

@doormagic No one was killed. Even if someone was killed it would be the truckers fault for stopping on railroad tracks. Trains have the right of way. Also trains do not stop quickly especially when they are going 79 MPH (127km per hour). The train probably took a kilometer to stop.

No I saw the original video The truck moves forward on a green light, but stops when the light turns red seconds later. She had stopped before the crossing, and went when it was green. It was only green for 5 seconds in the original footage, and turned red abruptly.

The light turned green just as the railroad gates were coming down, then it turned red just as the truck got over the tracks. Then again, the driver was stupid enough to go through the crossing against the gates. She did not consider that the light turned green for the two vehicles which were ALREADY over the tracks and stopped at the light.

I should point out two facts the press got ahold of later, and this is what lead to an investigation:
1. The truck driver was a girlfriend of the guy with the camera.
2. There were actually two cameras set up by the guy who just "Happened" to have a camera.
I grew up near there, and there was always a question about the timing of the lights as the train crossing signals activated.

No I saw the original video The truck moves forward on a green light, but stops when the light turns red seconds later. She had stopped before the crossing, and went when it was green. It was only green for 5 seconds in the original footage, and turned red abruptly.

No you're stupid. You pass judgement when you don't have all the facts. She moved on a green light that lasted 5 seconds, and was forced to stop on the track when the light turned red. That's why all the camera's were there. The light was bullshit, not the driver.

I think there are female as well as male drivers who drive incredibly bad and should never have gotten their license.
However, in this case, I think the truck driver is innocent. If you look at the second angle, you can see that the truck is actually stopped at an intersection!! What jerk-off put an intersection with traffic lights a few yards from the railway crossing? Did noone think of what would happen if an 18 wheeler has to stop at a red light?

It was a traffic signal thing the driver didn't understand. The stupid lady truck driver got a green to clear the tracks. But stopped when the light turned red for the cars behind the gate. She should have cleared the tracks like the signal told her to. Her fault 100%.

The truck driver was a woman. She escaped from the cab just before semi-trailer was hit, she managed to take her dog away from the cab.

She's saying the *cause* of the accident... as in what events transpired beforehand that caused the train to hit the truck in the first place.... such as why didn't the trucker make any attempt to move his truck in any way possible, and could the train have had enough time to stop, etc. etc. etc.

@redramage The truck actually got stuck on the rails because it was caught by a changing signal. The light turned green just as the railroad gates were coming down, then it turned red just as the truck got over the tracks. Then again, the driver was stupid enough to go through the crossing against the gates. She did not consider that the light turned green for the two vehicles which were ALREADY over the tracks and stopped at the light.
