@Jiaxis you also have to take into account administrative support, parent support, financing, and the work ethic of each student when you make those kinds of statements. I have several friends who have been in these groups in Japan, and what they came back with is that EVERY student ONLY does this or whatever they choose. We teach students to experience many things, there they do ONE thing as good as possible. Even with mediocre teaching, that attitude goes a loooooong way.

@Jiaxis Also, in Japan they start band in 3rd grade and marching band in Elementary school as well. So by the time they hit high school, they are monters

In America we usually play football halftime shows on fridays and competition on saturdays....do they play at other sport functions or just purely competition?

Purely competition, as these are part of the marching band clubs usually in high schools, or organizations held outside of the schools. Sometimes they're done as festival performances or just exhibitions. The better the group though means they might go on trips more often to perform in amazing events. But it's never for football half time shows.
