Eddie hit #1 in Billboard, 11-10-73. Too bad brother Eddie was a chain smoker. Most likely contributed to his death from lung cancer in his early 50's. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

i don't understand if you don't know who Eddie Kendricks is or don't know the song how do you end up here? It's not like you can accidentally type Eddie Kendricks- Keep On Truckin'. This is good also check out a song called Freddie's Dead by Curtis Mayfield.
@nowl8ter I'm not going to give you negative votes or call you names...he was one of the original members of the temptations, now if you don't know who they are you need to be shot.
This song was his biggest solo hit, and if you listened to the entire song, you can hear where several ppl have sampled it. He died from lung cancer in 1992
What a great tune! I still recall the first time I ever heard this song... it was late on a Saturday night during the Christmas break in 1974. One of my childhood hobbies was tuning in AM radio stations from far away (from my home in Albuquerque). One of my favorite stations to listen to was the late, great XROCK 80 (remember them?) If I recall correctly, it was Wolfman Jack who spun the disc that night.
Does anyone have any info on Pam Sawyer and/or Kathy Wakefield (they both wrote with either Frank Wilson and/or Leonard Caston during the 70's at Motown)?...I think they were both either English or Canadian, but have been able to find very little about how they came to be in the business.
As I recall, back in 1988 a rapper by the name of Raheem sampled this song also I believe the name of the joint was "Dance Floor" the kid was from Houston.
Please nobody's focusing on your blurred Kendricks pics, We are appreciating you for putting the long version of Truckin up!! This is one of those songs that makes you get up and boogie!! However I would have loved to seen the drummers cymbals after he demolished them! Can't Nothing Hold Me Down Nothing, Diesel Powered Back to You I'm Truckin!! I know I Have Got On Down To This many a nights!! Thank You!!
Thank you for posting this long (album) version of this classic dance track, still relevant to today - the Temptations, Eddie Kendricks, David & Jimmy Ruffin, Dennis Edwards - keep playing, keep on jumping - DAVEDJ
Played this song back in the day with The Softones. Every time we did this song we tore the house down. We had several gigs with Eddie, when my home boys The Young Senators were his back up band.
song makes more sense than ever (for those of us who should "keep on truckin") ...peace and power and strength to you....caint nothin hol me back; nothin....
@datguyjaz - Sure was! And the song went straight to #1. Back when "Lights, Camera, Action" was hot, the DJ played it at an event in NY and people were dancing so hard that the makeshift dancefloor collapsed! True Story...
@MeetRay yeah. i was just a kid but it still brings back memories of my dad on the road and driving through the busy industrial smoggy cities back then. it was about life. now its all "me" music. what has happened?
Mr. Kendicks was the best tenor that every lived. Does anyone remember the "Annie Mae" Song? It went this used to be the home of Annie Mae she dont live here no more... no more.....
Love my Sagittarians! They are high-strung when provoked though! DAG!! I like them when they are nice and NOT when they are upset! Eddie probably had a side to him that way.
Eddie hit the national top 40 4 times in his career-"Keep On Truckin', Pt. 1" in 1973, "Boogie Down" and "Son of Sagittarius" in 1974 and "Shoeshine Boy" in 1975. "Truckin'" and "Boogie Down" went to #1 and #2 respectively.
After Eddie left The Temptations never had another #1 single and only hit the top 10 once--"Masterpiece" in early 1973. David Ruffin hit the top 10 twice--"My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)" in 1969 and "Walk Away from Love" in 1975.
Always and forever funky. One would be hard pressed to find something this funky nowadays. Don't get me wrong, there are exceptions to this "rule"(thank you Jill, Chrisette, Eryka, ?ion-Love, and the like).
Oh so many good memories. The one that comes to mind is Nell Gywnes in New York City over by Grand Central Station East side Yeah. Can't stop the feeling. Thanks for posting Angel590
The full, REAL deal. For years, I've had Parts 1 and 2 separately on a mix tape, but I've never heard this seamlessly until now. And of course, NO overdubbed hand claps.
A #1 hit for Eddie Kendricks on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 276 #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #1 on the Top 40 charts.

@datguyjaz which bit?
phylliewilly 1 year ago
@datguyjaz - Sure was! And the song went straight to #1. Back when "Lights, Camera, Action" was hot, the DJ played it at an event in NY and people were dancing so hard that the makeshift dancefloor collapsed! True Story...

Love my Sagittarians! They are high-strung when provoked though! DAG!! I like them when they are nice and NOT when they are upset! Eddie probably had a side to him that way.

@candylaurenkaryn Remember, Sag's operate under the element of fire and the astrological influence of Jupiter=Ruler.

That Hammond B-3 organ at the end of the song has got to be one of the coldest riffs in the history of pop music.
3kingkool 1 year ago
@3kingkool - keyboard patterns/organ riffs are reminiscent of Billy Preston's style. Thought I was the only who noticed them lol
wcta0608 1 year ago
@wcta0608 Yeah man, that riff is the whole reason I bought the album version of this song back in the day.

Always and forever funky. One would be hard pressed to find something this funky nowadays. Don't get me wrong, there are exceptions to this "rule"(thank you Jill, Chrisette, Eryka, ?ion-Love, and the like).

The full, REAL deal. For years, I've had Parts 1 and 2 separately on a mix tape, but I've never heard this seamlessly until now. And of course, NO overdubbed hand claps.
