I think that when you are shooting larger varmints passed 500 meters, the .308 works out really well. Ive noticed it's effectiveness on pigs more than anything! This rifle is keeping recoil low, is insanely accurate, and because it's semi auto, it makes follow up shots a breeze, so why not use it as a varmint gun! Or a zombie apocalypse gun, or an all around but kicking rifle... We love her!
Im usually a little more partial to the 175 or 155 grain bullets. If you get the right kind you can actually get better BC out of the 155grain bullets over the 175's. Plus even if you are shooting a lower BC, you can usually still beat the ballistics of the heavier bullets with speed, resulting in better elevation, and less windage! The only and best advice I can give is pay attention, change only one thing at a time, and practice A LOT! You will not be disappointed with that rifle!
Awesome shooting from over 1/3 of a mile away. Just got the RRA LAR-8 26'' varmint today! I put on a Leupold Mark AR 6-18x40 and Harris bipod. Going to try 150gn and 165gn hornady and some handloads Sunday to see what she likes. Have any tips on breaking in this barrel or general long range shooing tips for me?
we tried the 168 grain bullets, but the accuracy of the 155 grain bullets was a lot better. Goes to show you that I guess every rifle is a little different. It could also be load development, reloading equipment tolerances, ect. I will admit again that I think these things are simply amazing!
The only downside to this rifle is the weight for shooting off hand. The accuracy, performance, and dependability of this rifle are definitely there. I would even go as far to say that the performance of this rifle rivals some of the much more expensive custom models! I think that I would still choose the 26" model, but I would also be interested in looking at the 20".
@oneshotpub How would the standard 20" lar-8 with a free floated barrel compare to the varmint 20"? Rock river has the same accuracy guaranty for both models ?
@oneshotpub I have nearly the exact same setup with the 26 inch version. The only difference in my gun is I went with the Leupold VX-III 8.5-25x50mm LRT. I use Sierra 168 BTHP and I used 46 grains of Varget. Other than that everythings the same. This is the most accurate rifle Ive ever laid my hands on. I dont have the same fancy video setup that you have so all I can do is video myself shooting steel and you can hear it. My farthest is 500 yards, Ive got a video on my page. I had sub 1/2 MOA
That was amazing shooting. I'm actually strongly considering buying this exact rifle, are there any downsides about it that you don't like? & would you recommend it to someone else?
Thank you! I would like to take all the credit for this, but we have to credit where it's due. RRA does an amazing job with these rifles. There is an actual write up on it on our site...
Sorry it took so long.... We are using the 26" version. We looked at the 20" for carrying, but we liked the improved ballistics of the longer barrel. The weight is not too bad on it, and it's one of the most accurate semi auto rifles out there.
We were using the Falcon Menace 4-14x44 FFP with the ML 16 reticle, and 1/10 MIl clicks. We are now offering them on our site, just send us an email if you would like one of them.
ROFLMAO great vid!!

Jesus. What sort of varmint needs a .308 lobbed at it?
