how long did it take you to develop this speed and accuracy? I ask because sometimes I feel like I'm getting nowhere, which kinda puts the musical career I want in jeapordy.
I know your excellent efficient technique helps, but I wonder if you have to eat a special diet or bathe under radio-active electro-magnets to play that fast!
Perhaps you sleep in a pressurized nutrient pod and snort super-oxygenated di-lithium crystals?
I'm applying a sequence to the E-Harmonic Minor scale. Starting on the E note and ending on the raised 7'th of the scale. I'm not outlining chords and I never really do when I'm playing fast scale runs. Thanks for asking!
hey on your website, you said it is real important to practice the majority of the time really slow. do you practice slowly as when you show the lick slowed down?
No! Slow means a speed where you can paly everything picture perfect. So you really have a max slow speed as well as a max fast speed. Your max slow speed is the fastest you can play while remaining completely in control, doing everything perfect. That's the speed you want to use. In fact, if you practice at this speed all the time, it will increase in tempo at by it self. Until you can play blazing fast with total control :o)
Alright. Thanks. That's what i have been doing. I am planning on starting the 10 day challenge on the 20th of this month because i know i can go the whole 10 days without being disrupted.
Yup. That the one. I got into Squiers because I wanted to learn to do the scalloping. I bought a couple of beat up Squiers and started working on them. Then I got this silly idea to mount the same dimarzio pickups that I had in my other strats just to see if I could tell the difference. Well I could, there was clearly a difference. Until I changed the pots from Squeirs to Fenders. A simple and ultra cheap operation.
i can't believe i guessed it right without seeing the headstock! damn i'm good!
what's crazy is that my current plan is to buy a Squier as my next guitar... so i can scallop it!
but i have two questions:
1) can you make a scalloping video?
2) in another video you have a Daphne Blue guitar with a rosewood fretboard. i've only seen the Deluxe's with maple fretboards. Did you change the neck or is that other guitar not a Squier Deluxe?
I will make a whole series of articles and videos about how to scallop your guitar neck. Because it's such an improvement to the instrument (In my experience) And it's really easy to do. The other guitar is a Fender Highway one Strat. You won't go wrong buying the Squier Deluxe. The stock pickups are awesome too and if you don't like them you can get a fair price for them at ebay, because they are made by Seymour Duncan.
awesome, i REALLY look forward to it! the method i am currently considering is the safest one i've read about... sand paper wrapped around different sized cylinders (dowels, pens, sockets, whatever).
i've heard good things about the Deluxe from you and others, but i need a rosewood fretboard or i won't be able to sleep at night. so i'm thinking maybe the Squier Classic Vibe 60s. a little more expensive than the Deluxe (but only 21 frets, darn, but then again, YJM managed fine with only 21).
The sandpaper method will definately work for you. It gives you time to inspect your work and really get a great result. Start at the highest fret, because the high frets are the easiet. Don't go too low, you can always return back to the first fret and sand them all down a little more if you're not satisfied with the depth. The clasissic vibes are awesome! Also you should consider the Fender Classic Player 60s Strat. It's an amazing guitar.
Then I checked out the Squier deluxe series and they are so well build. They are light weight and the hardware is top notch. I change the pickups but I would do that on any Fender strat as well. The necks on these guitars are a dream to play I just love this instrument. And the twin pivot trem works in both directions unlike any other Fender strat (Except of course for some model with floyd rose type of trems from the eighties) Thank you for commenting!
I have to get some of those picks

daphne blue... maple fretboard... 22 frets... this wouldn't happen to be a Squier Deluxe would it?
my apologies if i'm wrong and that's actually a fender (not that there's anything wrong with squiers but some fender owners would be insulted!)

thanks those are good tips!
i'm probably going to wait until your articles/videos come out before i do it though.
besides i still have to save up for the Squier.
and if i have to save up for a cheap Squier that means i'm definitely in no position to get a Fender Classic Player 60s Strat!! :)
but thanks for the recommendation. i'll keep that in mind for after i win the lottery or rob a bank.
