@steeliconicafe i think you don't get the point. It is a ruggedized phone. That means they can't have any ventilation or openings on the phone. It can sit under a meter of water for 30 minutes and still function.

@NitroGadvRules Don't wanna bash you, you are right, I get the point. It's a rugged phone. Phones need speaker & microphone openings. Rugged phones have holes. Phone = microphone and speakers - Rugged phone = IP67 certified, but with holes for speaker & microphone nonetheless. It DOES have a camera at the back, as well as a mono speaker at the back & in the front as well as a microphone. All we are asking is for a very small pinhole for a front facing camera, is that too much to ask? SEMC :-)

Active has bravia engine, hd video rec, front camera,wet finger tracking, xloud technology, barometric pressure sensor ,A.N.T+, pedometer,timescape ui,etc that defy/defy + doesn't have. Gingerbread runs flawless on 3" with 1GHz processor.

@nil1230 Nokia is much better and can take a lot more damage and falls. If you loose an ericcson on the floor the phone will break, but if you loose a nokia on the floor the floor wil break. :-)

Be sure to check Motorola Defy its way better in my opinion and u can buy it now. Dust and water proof(not certified, but Defy + is i explain in sec),3,7 inchscreen,1500 vs SE Act 1200mah battery , better water isolation design, only downside is its Froyo and no 720 video but believe me Gingerbread is useless on the SE Active 3 inch screen:) . And if u don't mind waiting two months u can get "Defy plus" which is Gingerbread and will have 1700 mah battery (2-3 days vs 1 day SE). Choose wisely :)

Developer world, yeah right. Some developers on XDA have ported the Android 2.2 to our X8, FULLY WORKING, and Sony says that they cannot upgrade X8 because of HARDWARE limitations, pfff. Why don't you hire those developers from XDA to help you out with things you cannot do. We just wanted an official 2.2 on X8, or even 2.3. Conclusion: XDA developers seems to be smarter than your's.

Why not just make a waterproof case for Xperia Arc or Mini like what Elecom is about to come out with? I think a lot of android makers are making the same mistakes, confusing consumers with huge range of products. It's unnecessary costs for SE and retails. Learn from apple, slim down, and perfect!

Xperia Arc is a good phone, much better than this thick ugly phone. I think what SE needs to do is make a barebone phone similar to Arc but smaller, and allow cool full customizations like waterproof

what happens if u r trying to record a video underwater ? will it be muffled or are there some sort of special software in there that can help to 'detect' and recognize sound more properly like the wet finger detection thing ? ,is the active corner is just a customized corner with the fitness apps that u can chage it or its permanent in that phone ? the color strip there should have 4 colors like turqoise white black and orange , the official page shows that they got 4 colors but its 2 cover ?

This phone is just great! love the design especially. It all makes sense; 3" screen for wearing on the wrist is big enough, small carabine on the bottom for lanyards etc. To comment the complaints regarding resolution; 320x460 is way more than enough for a 3" as this is normally a standard res. for a 3.2"-3.5" phones.

@illupus72 I've got a Samsung Galaxy S2 here and from my 2 weeks of experience using the SGS2 I can confidently say that there is simply NO competition for this new SuperAMOLED-Plus display panel. And it's a lot better than a TFT LCD at outdoor viewability. A WVGA-version of this would've been ideal for the SE Xperia active. But I'm still hoping the active'll turn out great spite of medium-res-screen...

A 854x480 display with gorilla glass would have been much better on the xperia active (how much scratch resistant the display is needs still to be demonstrated).

Why didn't you look at the Motorola Defy as a competitor? It's got a 854x480 3,5' screen, and the Xperia active will only come with a 480x320 3,0' screen, though it's got a quicker processor (1GHz) than the Defy (0,8GHz). Start making sense here! I'd like to see a waterproof xperia phone with a full WVGA display, not with a retarded mid-res screen... - no serious pun intended though ;-D

How good is the barometer? What's the accuracy? This is needed to make sure that it is good enough for some applications in cycling.

Usually pressure sensors also have temperature sensors. Is this the case for the one in the phone? In this case, is the temperature exposed as well in the API?
