  • god damn, fuckin christians can't let ONE video go by without them preaching and exclaiming their little cult. if you had listened to this video you'd here pete himself say that he isn't out to make the whole world into his religion and that he could only speak for himself. if everyone else was like that everything would be a whole lot better.

  • too bad hes christian

  • 1avardac, sorry to be ghoulish but, was his collapse caught on the same home video?

  • @mikeduplantier Don't think so. He collapsed after the game and they most probably weren't filming at the time.

  • Pete averaged 44.2 PPG in college. If you think that record will ever be broken, you'd be wrong.

  • @mocus1 without a 3 point line. Averaged 57 ppg and 13 three pointers made per game if you factor it in. Insane.

  • Bob just wants to drop a li'l shock n awe.Could be he's pissed at Christians.

Think he's a latent homosexual.Bob could find home in San Francisco where it is ok to be gay.

  • Wow Bob, what's your problem??

  • @BobLemkeSuxDix

    Dude, grow up. Seriously.

  • An inspiration still today....worldly fame took backstage to his acceptance and devotion to Jesus Christ and to his family...he walked the talk...this world needs more Pete Maraviches,, now more than ever.....

  • @ 01:59, "you gotta think one, two, maybe three _________ ahead of time?" what is the word after three? Please someone respond because I really want to know what he meant. Thanks, ahead of time....

  • @AnEscapedMind patterns

  • @1avardac any idea, what his dad meant by patterns? Does he mean think one, two, maybe three thoughts ahead? three moves ahead?

  • @AnEscapedMind I think what he meant is that there are certain patterns that can develop in certain situations on the court, like when you have a guy on the wing, he may at some point cut to the basket and as a playmaker, you need to be ready to make the pass at a certain moment. Usually you have one second or even less than that. If you're too late, well, your team won't score. So you need to be able to read the court well and make the most of where your guys are.

  • @AnEscapedMind Press said "Patterns"

  • @AnEscapedMind "....3 patterns" or ..."3 passes". It sounds like "patterns".

  • I will always treasure my Trophy he presented to me at Basketball camp in California State College the summer of 1971.

  • Wow. He was truly a hero. Fathers should be their sons heros.

  • The Good Die Young

  • that fucker looks like he´s laughing the whole time -.-

  • Man, I can't believe he was only 40 ...

  • Class Act.

  • Bob Cousy, "Hot Rod" Hundley, Larry Bird, Steve Nash, Jason Williams...Thank you Peter Press Maravich. It was a pleasure to meet you every time.

the picture at 4:33 first appeared in Sports Illustrated and I believe it is still the greatest photo memory for future kids to learn what he meant to basketball and the future of the game we see now... God bless you Pete.

  • All I can say is.....Wow !! Such excellence,power and grace in handling the basketball....miss you Pete !! "7"

  • i've only got two words. CLASS ACT! WE LOVE U PETE!

  • @lxt210

This guy was un-believable,a true professional in every sense of the word.I believe he could hang with Michael or Kobbe one on one, neither one of them could "Punk"him out on the court,I would bet on it,he could hang.Ive seen him do lay ups on wilt chamberlain,He could score on Jordan or Bryant. For sure.highest ppg average in ncaa history, with no 3 point line.

  • "Pistol" is a really great (powerful, but obviously tragic) book about his life, written by Mark Kriegel. I recommend it.

  • @fisch519 just got done reading it its amazing!

  • remarkable person

  • "i dont want to play in the NBA for 10 years and die from a heart attack at age 40". pete maravich died of a heart deficiency.

  • at least he died where he loved to be

  • church basketball court

  • Pete had said that he wanted to be remembered as a Christian and not a basketball player.

  • @KonkreteXXX

Not sure what you mean by saying WTF. What's the problem?

  • @XXXFirebird76XXX oh nothin´, just NOT AS A BASKETBALL PLAYER? Duh.

  • Wow. What a sincere man. I agree with every single word that came out of his mouth. Pete was a beautiful person. I hope to have his spirit everytime i play the game of basketball. Thanks for the post

  • Shes the color commentator for the nj devils now right?

  • EVERYONE... go watch his testimony video RIGHT NOW... its awesome!!!

  • basketball genius

  • R.I.P Pete. Man I just wish he had won some championships to be remembered more often as an all-time great.

  • Yeah but at least he's still remembered wish he could live a bit longer

  • R.I.P

  • I meant to give you a thumbs up.

  • his story is like MJ but in an older version R.I.P Pete

  • Its because of this man i started playing basketball when i was a little kid.

  • Solid Basketball Player and Legend. Even more important - Thanks to the Love of God, Pete is in Heaven. That has EVERYTHING to do with Christ, and matters NOTHING with one's profession, fame, or anything else.

    JOHN 3:16

  • Amen to that man... Thank you Pete for being one of my inspirations and being a great person...

    R.I.P "Pistol" Pete Maravich

    (1947-1988)

  • Thank goodness he became a born again Christian, a great person and a baller!

  • Without a doubt!

  • I bet pistol is proud to see basketball back in new orleans

  • There is a very touching 5 part testimony of his on Youtube. I recommend it to those who are interested. I also agree with him that one`s father should be a son`s hero!

  • haha the "mediocre clueless cold idiot" made clemson a force back when the only acc teams that mattered on a national level were in north carolina

  • R.I.P Pistol Pete :(

  • Gone too soon. This man taught me the game through "Homework Basketball", I felt like I've lost a close friend when I found out that he had already died.

  • I mean that it is great to hear that he was Saved.:) before he passed away! but the media people don't mention it.

  • Amen brother.

  • You know what is great about the story. That they probably don't mention is that he was Saved and Born Again! Glory be to God. A Christian!

  • Don't ruin the obituary, cpcold. We all know Maravich wasn't perfect, so he should be forgiven for slipping into Christianity.

  • He, it's better than being a Socialist or a Communist.

  • @cpcoldmaniv I can't wait to meet him up there :))

  • Only 40???

I started shooting and got inrpised from watching him.

  • My idol in high school and college. I cherish a letter he wrote me after I wrote him while he was at LSU.

  • what it say

  • Hello, I'm trying to catch up on a lot of back correspondence. So please accept my apology for being so late in answering.

    I wish you much luck.

    Sincerely, "Pistol Pete"

    (dated Aug. 28, 1970)

I have it in a Sports Illustrated issue dated December 1, 1969 with him on the cover.

  • NO ONE WILL EVER BE LIKE HIM nO body

  • Yup absolutely amazing. 44 pts a game in college without a 3 line. They went back and charted all of his games with the current 3 pt line. 57 pts a game....

  • My Dad saw that !!

  • wow, i want to play like him soo bad

  • practice, practice, practice, perfect your intuition and master your confidence so you can make quick technical plays without anxiety

  • "The Pistol" Baby.....

  • how can anyone not love this guy?

  • "Pistol Pete" was my inspiration when I was growing up watching him play with the other legends of the game. He was and will always be the best in my book! Way ahead of his time...way ahead of his time! R.I.P. "Pistol"

  • it's a pity that nicknames are now not allowed on the jersey

  • R.I.P Pistol Pete.

  • great vid. i cried, pete maravich highlights in the 8os are what sparked my commitment to the game till the game wouldnt have me anymore.I got lucky to get requested number44 from my coaches .I never used the pistol tricks but that wasnt because i didnt want to.1nce in a life time he was.

  • Great video, he has a great story and an even greater legacy as a basketball player and as a Christian. He has touched many lives in ways that eevn he wouldnt imagine. I know as a basketball player and as a father that he has had a tremedous impact on myself and my children. We are lucky we are in Louisiana and get to watch his sons from afar grow up and share their love of basketball with others. My children have been fortunate enought to hang out with them and share and learn that love. Troy

  • wow! one of the saddest days of my life. i was glad to have spend time around him... what a great human being. you are missed Pete.

  • A sad day.

  • damn pete was the best

  • damn....
