I heard an interview with her on WSM 650 last week and she said that when she came out in that dress people were laughing and pointing fingers at her. It wasn't what she wanted to wear.
This is not the dress she was speaking of. You can view the dress and her performance she was talking about by by searching here on YouTube "Jeannie C. Riley - Harper Valley PTA CMA" by NevadaDesertWind.
I've been trying to find this performance of Riley's #1 of 1968, "Harper Valley, PTA" for a while. This is my favorite performance of the song, I'm glad I could find it again.
She suffered serious depression in the 90s after splitting with her husband, found god, got treatment and produced an album in 2000 called 'Good ol' country'.
She has her own website but I haven't checked it yet so there could be more recent activity.
The verse condemning Bobby Taylor, Mrs Taylor, Mr Baker and The Widow Jones has been cut. Maybe the networks liked to keep music clips under 3 minutes.
This is the coolist clip of jeannie C. Riley from the stage of the Grand Ole Opry no less! What a classic piece of history in music. Thanks for posting... LOVE Jeannie C.
My mistake...thanks

How did we get from this kind of television programming to the things MTV and other networks show?

Instead of people wanting quality...money and bling are more important to people in the world! This is still an all time classic.

The verse might have been cut... but not by the networks... this is a complete scene from a movie.
