Just like Skarmory, Umbreon is mostly used as a defensive Pokemon. Its Toxic/Mean Look combo is hell deadly. Even Legendaries like Mewtwo or Lugia can fall prey to it

i think Bruno having an Onix has to do with the pokemon tv series, an Onix was causing havoc on victory road (which was outside for some odd reason) and it turned out a Sandslash got caught in the gap of his rock body, Bruno comes out of nowhere and pulls out the Sandslash and then Onix joins Bruno

The Steelix in the Gym is from D/P/P, which came after this, and the later the game the more formidable the pokemon, mostly.

It's referring to the Japanes attack on the U.S. base at Pearl Harbor.

the use of metaphors is also an important part at making jokes. So, the pearl harbor thing would be considered a 'joke', since it was not a strictly straight argument, as would be:

"It's cloudy today. It may rain"

in a more humoristic way, it could be:

"It's as cloudy today as my uncle's bed in a saturday evening. The rain will fall more than George Bush reputation"

Just a point, you know. I thought it was kind of funny, but at the same time I thought it was some inner joke...sorry

Crobat's got some pretty good defenses, as illustrated here. This is the main reason why it is such a good lead: Fast Taunt, able to take hits, BB hits like a truck. Still, nothing like that Umbreon.

Tell me about it. You should see some of the PMs I get, too. Today I got one from a complete idiot who complained that HGSS changed too much stuff around from GSC (that's the whole point of a remake, doofus!), and then asked ME to list five things they changed. That's right, he complains about there being too much change, then can't even list five. I could probably list 50 without trying too hard.

It wasn't hilarious like the six-pack PM, it was just... bad.
