  • AHAHAHA hello from Latvia. look at the funny car. It beat bike easy. we hear that bike riding people boast about their bikes but here for us to see is that cars are clearly faster than all bikes.

  • 2:19! Awesome!

  • Although i agree that cars at top speed can beat bikes AND into the corners car have far better braking (four wheels will always beat two wheels at braking) but you have pitched a fast car thats designed for racing against a mediocre hypermotard... its not even a fully fledged "racing" bike its designed for on AND off road, try again vs a sports bike i think the outcome will be different.

  • 2:18 Holy Shit.

  • @MrJRG97 I know right? Man those dudes were gunnin it

  • What a lame video, pitting a really fast car against a relatively slow bike? Nice comparison, a decent 600 supersports bike would have been a far better comparison.

  • @Attilauk a sports bike wouldn't be able to corner as quick as a supermoto, the R500 would have left a sports bike the supermoto is much more capable in these type of bends due to the better steering.. my friends cannot keep up with me on my husqvarna down country bends whilst on their gsxr and R6

  • @samr500 I tend to agree. Watch any track video of a supermoto and they outhandle superbikes. This is mainly due to their lightweight. This bike was also designed for alpine roads as well. Physics are in favour of 4 wheels making cars always potentially quicker. Motorcycles only have a weight advantage which is equates to good acceleration but because bikes have poor aerodynamics their upper speed and post 100mph acceleration is comprimised.

  • R.I.P. Marco Simoncelli (20 January 1987 -- 23 October 2011)

  • They should have used a true supermoto like a ktm 690 smc or aprilia sxv 5.5

  • all you ppl saying that the bikes are always quicker in a different spec think again..... Ariel Atom 500?

  • Cars are faster it's a fact !!

  • HAHA.. this is a duke thats made to go around the world on any terrain. The Duke D16RR would have bent the space time continuum and this bullshit video would have been sucked into a black hole. At Knockhill i batter R500s record by over 2secs a lap with an old y-plate stage 1 R6 (dynoJ, K&N, slightly modded airbox intake, akra full system, 17" front hoop). can batter RadSR8s by over 5sec on BM s1000rr. Cut about knockhill rally circuit in ma uncles 6R4 that could lap the sr8s in 10 laps. oooosh

  • @nutsack1888 Hmmkay, lets start modding the r500's!!! Then it will be fair

  • 250HP??? I would think that it would have more

  • @droidfan2010 yea it only have 250 hp

  • That is the most bullshit video ever :P 13seconds my arse! Get a r6 or similar, get a decent confident rider and im sure the car would have the 13seconds

  • I fucking hate this "autocar show", always trying to show how car are better than bikes...well I'll give you my point of view, even a top performance bike is cheaper than a civic, and I never had make peed my girlfriend in a car, but in my bike yes ;), moreover, sorry for the car fags, but how many of you have a full prepared 500hp car at home? Well I only have a 128 HP zx 6r...and I assure you no car have never win on my, even in the moutains. Car is good for commuting, bike is better for race.

  • @desperamika Even with visual proof the r500 and the nissan GTR both beating Superfast bikes you cannot accept cars are just faster machines. "Bike is better foir racing"-Are you Mad?

Put the fastest racing bike in the world against a F1 car and the bike will burn in hell.

  • never mind superbikes that go kart will out perform most supercars ,

  • That guy driving the ducatis knees were skimming the ground on each turn!

  • Cool

  • A rare case where the car sounds better than the bike.

  • So in order to beat the Bike you have to drive the Ugliest Car ever!

    No thanks.

  • i have a robin hood caterham styled kit car and its absolutely gr8 fun also i went in a caterham r500 at autosport motorshow it waz amazin if u want gr8 fun out of ur car make sure u get 1 of these man there excelent its more fun thn any car or bike ive been on and av been on a few bikes aswell

  • Great to see the keyboard warriors getting involved, saying the rider isn't very good! Some people need to get a clue. The guy is a nutter...

  • that ducati rider needs a black helmet and twin mac10's LOL. what a bad ass bike!

  • the bike doesnt have slicks like the car, the pilot of the bike is not very good ...

  • @pedroyamaha The car isn't on slicks, it's on Avon CR500 road legal tyres. Created specifically for the Caterham R500, hence the name. Have you been to the Millbrook proving grounds and driven round it's hill route? I have, and despite what you may think, it's not like a normal road. It replicates Alpine type roads. It's a tortuous blend of unsighted bends, steep gradients and nasty camber changes. The motor industry use it to fine tune new cars handling, braking, stability and such like.

  • @pedroyamaha 1. you mean rider not pilot 2. that rider is very good! i'd like to see you get your knee down on a hypermotard...

  • this is autoCAR.. get bikes off, we want to see v8s, v10, v12 etc..ty

  • love the R 500

  • You do not ride knee-down on a supermoto. get a proper KTM and drive properly!

  • Why go all technical "cycle speed" blah de blah de blah.A grand prix car is an ultimate and so is a gp bike........if they started side by side at sapang the bike would be lapped every six laps !!

  • @joe10toes quite true, nothing beats f1 because it has downforce. F1 on brakes is where it really is impressive. Normal car, not a chance.

  • that's a stupid race.

  • For all the comments about the duke not being a superbike...well the caterham isnt exactly a supercar.Cars brake and turn faster than bikes and a bike usually has better acceleration on the straights.....there both fast in there own rights.Value for money a bike everytime.Which is ultimately fastest money no object....an f1 car will lap 30 secs faster than a moto gp bike at sapang, malaysia

    !!

  • @joe10toes "cars brake and turn faster" is very, very unprecise. a car can be thrown faster from left to right, but when it comes to cornering speed, it's a bit more complex. a sporty bike has a higher pure "circle speed" than any supercar (F1 is a whole different story because of aerodynamics). the higher the speeds, the more this is true. below 50kph or so it's a bit tricky... that's probably supermoto terrain. there really are "car-corners" and "bike-corners".

  • @joe10toes wait are you kidding me "Cars brake and turn faster than bikes"?!? power-to-weight ratio, dude...

  • @speedcrazy94 heard of friction dude!

  • @speedcrazy94 Cornering speed is not a function of power to weight. It is the limit of total traction, the more traction, the more lateral G. Lateral force is proportional to the speed and inversely proportional to the circle diameter.

So more traction means you can acheive either: a tighter turning circle at the same speed, or a higher speed through the same circle. Cars have about 8-10 times the total rubber on the road, so can come in hotter and exit faster from corners regardless of weight

  • My Caterham x330 beats them both :)

  • @2:18 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Some loony 'in' a bike"???

  • peopel don't realize how Fast R500 actually is.

  • That must be great fun!! I want a go!

  • a radical 1500 would make it 20seconds plus lead lol and it cost the same at the caterham...

  • The sharper and more numerous the bends, the more the car will win. The longer the straights and the less the corners, the more the bike will win. Its not rocket science, just fact. On big straight roads a gsxr1000 or 750 will anhilate the r500. I was taken by an ariel atom on a twisty road near the M5 a couple of years ago on my gsxr 750. I am a mediocre rider, no novice but not great either. I managed to keep him in sight as he went onto the M5, where I blasted him! Great car though..!!

  • I love those saying the pilot wasn't very good.

Because they can critic him and shit... on youtube. In which the driver reads the comments on youtube and learns from them.

Come to think of it, that's how F1 drivers train: by reading comments on Youtube.

  • @Ratava252 exactly :) also you have to remember, these guys have actually raced a millbrook.....on a bike.....racing a car......in front of the cameras......:)

  • On top gear they have the ariel atom stomping a cbr600rr on a track and the r500 cang hang with that.

  • ok now do the same test with an R1 or a fireblade!!

  • most of you haters have never driven a caterham.....

  • For the love of God can they please just disable comments so I can just freakin' enjoy the video's!!!!!!!!

  • I have to wonder if this is all staged. I don't see how the hell he could have ever passed the guy on the bike if he hadn't let him. Not that the bike is faster, just that there would be no safe way to do it, unless you didn't mind knocking him off his ride! As for "superbike"...me being a total amateur at the 2-wheel world, all I've ever heard of is "cruisers" (ie Harleys), "motorcycles" (ie old Yamaha 4-cyls), and "superbikes" (ie crotch rockets). No "supermotos". Still, I'll take the R500!

  • cars>bikes

  • prova in pista con quel bidone e una vera ducati stradale, vedi quanta polvere mangi, queste sottospecie di macchine "sportive", le macchine e le moto le facciamo in italia.........

  • I hate bikes

  • @lamborgboy Bikes hate you

  • @jbshadow1 GOOD

  • Try it on whatever bike you want to. The outcome would be the same.

  • if any of you have raced bikes and been to the track you would know that the supermotos turn alot quicker than a superbike I should know i ride and own a few and they always get me in the twisty sections as they are just more agile and lighter and thats why I think they used the 1100 supermoto this time as it was quite twisty

  • @gengiz better suited for hilly road tracks also

  • @gengiz Except you really don't need quick flicking on this course. There are very few chicane-like sections, and a superbike has much better steady-state traction and straightline speed than a supermoto. This course could be roughly compared to isle of Man, and you don't see supermotos dominating there, do you?

  • @gengiz ok, you say you ride bikes - so do I. but I'd say supermotos are only faster in the very slow corners: hairpins and stuff like that - where the superbikes also LOOK a lot slower than they actually are and feel unstable.

I think the reason they took a supermoto is because any sportbike would've smoked this car right from the very first meters.

  • @gengiz you don't ride or own anything. you don't even have limbs.

  • @gengiz

If you ride and "own a few" you should know that this is NOT a supermoto! The Aprilia SXV550 is a supermoto, the Suzuki DRZ400SM at a stretch is one, the CCM R30 is one, this is a big heavy bike that is based on the Multistrada and is a fashion statement. I own a Multistrada and have ridden an HM and the HM is just as big and heavy as my bike. Not suitable for anything but posing! (The HM IS a good bike tho, just not for this test)

  • @gengiz Definitely what you say is true. Proper SM's like the SXV 5.5 can carry faster corner speeds and transition laterally much faster than 1000cc race bikes (in fact I'd be willing to bet that an SXV would beat that hypermotard on this track). On any track with a decent back straight, though, this car would get murdered by a proper superbike. Then again you already knew that, lol... I'm just thinking out loud, really.

  • @gengiz By the way I haven't ridden on a track yet, because I'm so god damned poor I can't even afford to go. But I'm faster on the streets than anyone I've ridden with yet, and almost certainly safer (more comfortable) as well. I've ridden SM's and they are fucking brilliant in the corners compared to my NInja! I really want to go to a track and see how well I would stack up against the track day junkies. Need a new job first, though. In another reality, I just know I'm a WSBK champion lol.

  • @kj7687 yep try the track you will love it though I thought I was fast until I went to the track and realised I was average lol theres guys in the 50s that make me look slow so go try it you wont regret it mate.

  • @gengiz Haha I know what you mean about guys in their 50's. There is a guy I go trail riding with who is 60 and he's blazing fast on his DRZ400 and CR500! And probably has as good endurance a I do, to boot. And I'm 24 and work out regularly!

  • I´d say that "test" would have a somewhat different outcome if they had used a CBR1000RR, R1 etc.

  • Try this test with a Desmosidici RR...

  • A moto GP bike @ 250hp/20kg should vs a F1 car.

So for the fanboys that want to race a car against a moto gp bike, search "F1 Car vs. Motorbike vs. Power Boat" or any thing F1 vs a bike and you'll see the same result, every time.

Car out accelerates bike, produces downforce so at speed will out corner bike, and then comes the stopping part. see you later Moto GP.

  • funiest thing is the cars got a bike engine in it, look it up . 1300 busa engine, thay also make a twin engine, with two r1 engines.. FAIL.....................

  • @theblueflame123 *facepalm*

The Super 7 Hyabusa is the one with the busa' motor, not this one which is the R500.

    FAIL........................

PS: They made one with a Fireblade motor too......

  • BUSA QUAD AS WIDE AS A CAR SORTED!!!!

  • racing a bike with100 bhp lol.... its fat talentless pie eating bellends like u that make people think cars are faster..... YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRN

  • use a Ducati 996 instead the fucking supermoto and do this shit again....

  • R500 all the way...

  • WTF???? I would like to see this shitty English car against a REAL Ducati Desmosedici ( the REAL suberbike).

The Desmosedici has 250 horsepower for less than 200 kg.

    ITALIAN PRIDE!!!!

  • @jack0989 you idiot... it would have an unfair advantage, at least here they have tried to match the car against the equivalent bike.

  • It's a good thing that most car drivers are Pussies and can't drive that fast, that's why they buy a car for that much money xD

  • Should bump the bike`s tire and knock him over.

  • Four tires for traction , four brake discs , better power to weight ratio , more horsepower=bike PWND.

  • Bunch of cunts......Bikes rule

  • Damne I love the R500!:)

  • only geeks use bike cuz u can't afford a real car

  • lool put it up to a rq ur zx10 and u ent got a chance he will be waiting for more than 12 sec like u did

  • 1098 would have blown it away, sorry.

  • genius

  • so who is this fat slob in he caterham, and who is the cretin in the motorycle who cant dric=ve it|?

  • In reality, on a twisty road no biker would keep up with that R500.

And all you so called 'bikers' can shut up. Listen to what he says about the 100bhp 'alpine passes' Ducati, it's designed for this type of route. A Ducati 748 has less horsepower and would be even further behind and/or in a tree somewhere at those speeds on that surface.

  • I usually dont get in the middle/take sides of a bike vs. car argument. BUT That Ducati is definately NOT a superbike. Put it up against a 999 or a 1098. Then thats a fair contest. No wait, It wouldent be fair because the Duc would smash the Caterham.

  • that car is stain on the windshield of a real superbike. Put it up against a Blade or a ZX and it would shit itself haha. What a laugh (':

  • That's not a fucking Superbike. I thought Autocar had good knowledge on vehicles? Guess not, Since the Caterham is a 'Track Car' and it is one of the fastest, lets make it even shall we? Ducati 1098 Desmosedici... oh that's right, it would be a fair race. Who the hell does fair races anymore.

  • I would put money on the Duke beating a superbike around that circuit.

  • That motorbike is not a superbike!!!!

    But the car is cool!!!

The car have 263 cv the motorbike only 95 CV

The car weight is 506 kg

the bike weight is 172 kg

    the car costs 55.000€

    the bike costs 11.700€

do you like to win easy? ;)

  • @cavilli

Yes, and the power to weight on the car is 1,92 kg per cv on the car, and 1,81 kg per cv on the bike. ;-)

I think thats why autocar used the duke. And besides, supermotards are probably alot quicker than a superbike on that twisty roads.

  • @rakerholm

yes but if they use a sport bike the bike had more advantage in a straight line... i think R6 he just playing with this car

  • 2:19 nice jump)))

  • I rather have The car than this bike... U got 4 wheels and u bike got 2.. This car is so fast allmoust as super fastestbike in world.. for this road. And bikers stop arguing ... about that.. i was biker and my friend ... we will never drive bike again. So many dies.

    And u suffor after.

  • how about using an actual superbike see how fast the r500 is

  • hermoso el lotus!

  • anything that ends with "tard" can"t be that fast...

  • love the air at 2:18 !

  • I think its close to an even match. A Monster S4R or Rs might have been beter but don’t forget the Caterham is kind of the naked car as it has the aerodynamics like a naked bike.

  • i agree with most people on here on a twisty road a super bike would be faster than a car in the hands of a pro but most are bought by incompitent middle aged men who can ride them.

  • may aswell of used a cbr125, good rider though :)

  • It's the bike from Yes man!

  • ducati hypermotard isnt designed for racing and cornering omg

  • Bad, bad driver in the Caterham...

  • This bike should be a superbike? What a fake! Next time choose a bike with more power! I boxing against the little son from Wlad.Klitschko and will win and then I shout out: I beat one of the Klitschkos!

  • @sincityracer1 But there are faster, more powerful cars too.

  • @whitbyjet65 Thats right, but there are more faster, much more powerful bikes! Yes,I do accept,a track with many bends isn`t good for a bike against a car!But saw a vid Fireblade(170Ps) against Audi (475Ps)on a race track! Bike: 01:07sec,car:01:17!The bike won with 10sec,!But it was ride from a very good man!A good car with a bad driver is always fast enough,a bike can only be so fast like the rider can!See Rossi on F1 and Schumacher on GP!

  • superbike ? u mean supermoto

  • Oh I see....get one of the lightest, quickest cars on the market and pair it up against one the lowest powered bikes that is not "technically" a sport bike and then be a smug ass when you barely beat it.

How about putting that car against a BMW1000RR with over 180bhp and actually meant to go around corners fast?

  • hypermotard.. ahaha

  • Superbike??... pfffffffffttt

Put Rossi on any descent bike and put Shoemaker in the Caterham, then see what happens. Nuf said...

    .

    .

    .

    .

  • yeah right, so the bike was all over the back of the car and then he beats it by 13 seconds?? what a load of shit and to prove my point they didnt even show it pulling away! only school boys will believe this bullshit

  • @mark675 the 13 seconds is most likely true. why would they lie about it. the parts of the video that were shown are for viewing pleasure.

  • @TheDawgDEANO cus theyre a car magazine maybe? duh.

unless the last mile of the track was hairpin after hairpin he didnt win by 13 seconds trust me

  • @mark675 they would lie about it because they are a car magazine.. no faggot. like i said it was for viewing pleasure, that last corner was not the same run in which the 13 second gap was achieved. youre a child without a car arnt you lol

  • @TheDawgDEANO lol ive got a car actually, not a performance car (a honda civic 2.2 turbo d) but i drive go karts aswell so you know id kick your ass haha

  • @TheDawgDEANO ur really not that clever are you?

  • I dream with a 1000Cv Caterham... :)

  • as you said "its about as fast as you'll get on 4 wheels"

well why not put it against "as fast as you'll get on 2 wheels" then;) or even something remotely close. it will leave it in the hills, and the rider, even by time he gets HIS gear on, will still be counting 11 seconds while laying on the ground ;)

  • ducati hypermotard isn't a superbike!! it'sa super motard!!! the real sbk is 848, 1198 ;)

  • Try the gixxer! :-) Please...

  • get someone thst can ride that bike....

  • @1cbrxx The rider is a professional racer and magazine road tester. I'm sure he can ride the bike 10 times better than you unless you are British Super-bike or Supermotard champion.

  • A biker will win every time on the streets, car drivers always bottle it!

  • Comment removed

  • take a Ducati 1198 S and we'll see...

  • I see a lot of motorbike fan's butthurt in these comments. And it so so sweet, please show us more how your anus is hurting.

  • Why not test the car against a fast bike?

  • I was like wooow!! when the R500 got airborne...I bet the drivers balls experienced zero gravity for a moment there...

  • ugly

  • the Caterham would be munched by a real superbike... Dumb dicks obvs dont know what a realy superbike is...

  • the r500 would have been destroyed if it had went againest a SUPERBIKe,not a hypermotard

  • la explicacion esta en un piloto inuti o simplemente hay trampa.............suena a tongo como una casa

  • Faster then a SUPERBIKE ??

Guess those amateurs have no clue what a Superbike is.

  • @Wasakracker155

hypermotards are hooligan bikes! i love them, but this is no superbike indeed.

but i don't think a bike can beet a caterham.

anyone idea's of new tests between cars and bikes?

I'm not a track racer, have a 250cc naked, and that's enough to go trew traffic each day!

  • @Wasakracker155

man...that`s not a superbike...it`s a supermoto bike...it`s not made for high speed... and the pilot was not very good.

  • @blackbk18 its not even a very good supermoto at that! a race pedigree moto would roast that yoke!

  • @blackbk18 Of course you are an excellent "pilot". That's why everyone knows your name.

  • @blackbk18

What and that car's a supercar is it? Read about it! 250BHP thats all its got!!!

  • @blackbk18 supermotos are way faster than superbikes in corners... and the R500 is not that fast in a straight line... still... top speed isnt everything in a real race track... if you wanna a proof, just watch the skyline gtr vs ducati 1098 video.

  • @LiMaMuFu

    * LiMaMuFu - it`s a difference between a supermoto and hypermoto :P

we should let the specification to talk... Hyperermoto vs sportbike...

Ducati 1100 S - 1100 cc engine, 95 hp/ 175 kg!!! this track it`s not for Hayabusa but a Yamaha R6 i think its perfect: 131.15 HP/161.9 kg. That`s a race car made for track you should use a bike made also for track. :)

  • @blackbk18 lol its 13second behind...wat u can make up ?5 second for a faster bike?4second for a better pilot ?is still gonna be behind son

  • Pahahaha! Would love to see what the Caterham makes of the new BMW S1000RR. my guess is the Caterham would be Mullered!!!

  • haha shut up you idiots with your nancy "ehhhrr put it up against blah blah and the bike will win" NO. It will lose, the bike lost by 13 seconds here! haha Glory be unto the Caterham for it has truely smashed the bike to pieces in this test.

  • @ImHereToAnnoyYou not to take the piss but it was a joke wen he was counting. he cant get out of it that fast and sit down. my dads got a caterham r500 and an aprilia mille factory. he loves them both

  • m0otorbikes have the disadvantage that they have to go down into and go up out of every turn. if a track has many sharp turns a car is quicker, if a track has many long straights, the bike is quicker.

  • @Thinkle911 perfect explaination

  • put it up against a ducati superbike and its a no contest

  • @liukang72 It would be the same outcome on this circuit.

  • Next time Autocar, try 'Caterham R500 vs 2010 Honda Fireblade'...

    Bye bye Caterham.

  • Crap video and totally biased. Any half decent sports bike will piss the caterham in a straight line my 10 year old sports bike will do 0-100 in 6 seconds. The Caterham is a fucking fast car and will do any bikes around sharp bends so the long and short of it is that on a track with lots of bends the caterham will be quicker on average and on a track with lots of straights the bike will be quicker.

  • @fastr1234 and @everyone else, Don’t you think the point of the video is to show just how marvelously quick the car is compared to a very quick bike? Sure, there’s lots of quicker bikes; and I’m sure a better driver in an F1 car would be a better matchup — but this is a test of ATTAINABLE machines that even us chuffers can procure, drive, and feel like superheros on trackday.

  • full 100 %

  • Caterham is not a car... it's something like formula, but you can register it and own like a car. Unbeliveable torque !

  • I don´t know if a 1098 or 1198 would be musch faster if any faster than a hypermotard regarding how twisty it was

  • Oh my gosh it's british Will Shatner

  • put that caterham against a proper ducati like 1198 and you'll have a completely different result...

  • that aint a superbike imo, its a motard, a superbike would have been the 1098s.

Love both bikes and cars so im not biased but atleast get a proper superbike.

  • fukin do7le

  • Ja Ja, ¡eres un cachondo!

  • at 2:57 that caterham fucking jump

  • big air man wtf i would shit myself

  • I like cars and bikes. That doesn't look like an S hyper to me. Takes less skill in my book to drive a car compared to a bike.

  • Caterham airlines
