I always thought that with covered fingering, it would be necessary to have a drone in the same pitch as the six-finger note, however, this configuration works well. The intermittent six-finger note seems to, almost, create the illusion of a second drone. I like it :) As a matter of interest, when playing three-finger tunes on my Goodacre SSP (A chanter), I like to tune my drones DAd.
Soulfully played as usual, Mr. Goodacre. I like the mellow sound of that chanter, too. So, from the previous comments, I gather this is an unorthodox hybrid, small pipe chanter and great pipe drone, but it seems to work well! A few months ago, I remembering reading on your site that your A chanter for great pipes was still in the experimental stages (perhaps old news). How is this upcoming great pipes chanter in A different than the A small pipes chanter? Or are they one in the same?
@keelermatt77 well, actually I'm not Mr Goodacre, though I am one of 'The Brothers'; this is indeed 'unorthodox'; I discovered it could work when I was in Vermont and have been using it for slow airs in D ever since; [[eg Sarah's Song on the lbps website in the music section ]. I'll pass you enquiry re A chanters on to Julian ...
@Thelowlandpiper Sorry about that! You look an awful lot like your brother, Julian, so much so that I didn't bother checking. Still, it was a nicely performed piece of music. Thank you for that! And thank you for passing my inquiry on to him.
@joelstewart yeah; the chanter's in A; tunes in D sound so much better with a bass D drone, and this is the only one I have ... [the chanter sounds quite different in this bag rather than its own

@Thelowlandpiper Ah, that explains why I could sort of play along on my D pipes, but not really.
