Sometimes, I go away for Christmas, and some of the places I go, they have furnaces. I should buy a USB CO thingie the next time I go somewhere that has a furnace. I think you can get one.
when i was a little girl, this happened to my family over night. my mom woke up by the alarm and wanted to wake me for school. she was feeling not good and saw i had a strange look on my face. she woke my dad and they carried me outside where i woke up thinking i had spent the night outside. that was a close call. i now have co detectors in my house!
I wont get carbon monoxide poisoning cause I live in Ireland and I dont think anyone has ever got it in Ireland. They dont even sell Carbon Monoxide Alarms where I live
@gangstachic911 it can happen any way, the heater that heat their house can break and if its on while its broken, it can cause the carbon monoxide to enter the house through the vents, its deadly, its oderless, and invisiable, the only way for it to be detected is a carbon momoxide dectector

how dare you blame god. Everything happens for a reason if you are not educated enough about the bible dont even dare to question god in that kind of matter how dare you....
When I lived in California two years ago, my brother had left some sort of gas lantern or oven on after we had used it during a power outage. Nobody knew it at the time, and we noticed the device was on, and leaking gas, when my mom went into the kitchen. It was about 9pm and we probly would have died if mom hadn't gone into the kitchen to make her Sleepytime Tea...it's so weird to think...
everyone s hould have a CO monitors in their house just like fire alarms. I guess im a hypocrite though cause my family doesn't have one. Well i'm going to talk to my parents about this.
your body doesn't fight CO, it binds to the Hemoglobin in your blood just like Oxygen except the CO is useless to the body and it makes the body unable to transport Oxygen...there are many things that can cause her to be the first...you should have CO detectors in your home
My parents got carbon monoxide detectors and a furnace inspection because of this episode. furnace inspections and detector battery checks became regular events after this. thank you rescue 911 and thank you for posting
My name is Johnna and this is the story of my family. I was very surprised when a co-worker found this video here on Youtube. This happened to my family 16 years ago. For the past 6 years I have worked for a utility department and do safety presentations to many departments regarding the dangers of CO. 16 years ago we knew absolutely nothing about CO, and the only reason we decided to participate in the 911 reinactment was to education others on the danger of CO!
Let me tell you that I am a Brazilian Product Safety Engineer who works for a major household appliance manufacturer here and it is my intention to use this video as an educational resource to improve people awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. I am glad to know that everything was fine with your family. I wish everyone was as lucky as you were. Regards.
Wow...I always wondered what it would be like to do a reenactment like that. I am glad you and your family are safe and alive. I remember watching this when it first aired when I was a kid.
@momwithvan that is awsome. when i saw this (for the 1st time it aired - now as a mom myself i watch them here) i am reminded just how precoius life is....hope u and ur family are doing great. i learned something off here i did not know as well *another episode* that i have taught my now 9 yr old son.
@allgood2000 i have a alam that goes "Carbon Monixide And repeats it " we didnt have one and we had a fire alarm that didnt go off when my house burnt down..
16 years ago, they only type of carbon monoxide alarm available was a small plastic square shaped object that had a small circle in the middle that resembled sandpaper - no sound, no alarm - would only notice if you walked by and noticed the disk turned dark - indicated CO in the atmosphere - we have come along way in 16 years
The numbers I'm using in the episode listings are the production numbers, not the lifetime numbers. Although it was fourth episode to air in season 5, it was the eighth episode produced for season 5.
the fire department just left my house. we had carbon monoxide in our house, but we all got out before anything happened thanks to the carbon monoxide detectors and they vented out our house.
i remember this episode from when i was a kid. it scared me to death and i thought about it every single night when i was trying to sleep. i begged my parents to get a carbon monoxide detector after i saw this. it's still terrifying to think about.
This is exactly why I will never have anything gas in my home. I will only have all electric, like I do now :-) I grew up in a home with a gas heater and it used to scare the daylights out of me.
Only certains one can dectected smoke and carbon monoxide Smoke dectecters alone can't. But they do have carbon monoxide dectecters that kinda look like a smoke decters but have special batter or something on the inside
I check my gas appliances all the time and make sure by boiler dosent burn with a orange like flame..i heard that this problem is verry common and happends to loads of people who havent been told about it
The girl at the end of the video is the real toddler. The actor that they got to portray the girl wouldn't go into the chamber. So whether she looks it or not, she's really 2. I got the info straight from the mom (we work for the same company).
Wasn't there another similar segment where a woman falls ill, is taken to the emergency room, where Rescue 911 was airing in the waiting room and showing carbon monoxide segment? That ended up saving the family's life.
I was in a house that had carbon monoxide in but thankful we got out. My mother got a detector and when she plugged it in it just kept beeping. We got thank good before this happen to us.
it may just be the poor quality of the film. The lights are typically red and blue. Though, I suppose they could be green...I have never seen a special doctor car with emergency lights in the U.S.
In America would be really stupid for someone to sleep in a house one night without Some type of Carbon Monoxide Detectors knowing that almost every house use GAS.
I fear things that i do not see, feel, taste, or smell......
For only a few dollors at Lowes, or home depot you can get Carbon Monoxide detectors, i have two, one upstairs, one downstairs and it it amazing. now i can sleep sound at night!
This is really scary! The fact that it's odorless and tasteless. I'm glad everyone survived! I remember watching this when it was on the "Family" Network or something like that. They need to put this show on TV Land or something.
resistance or immunity. yea but there are other things in the home that can cause carbon monoxide so its always a good idea to get your house check every so often
When the furnace burns fuel, it gives off carbon monoxide. Their furnace wasn't vented properly, so the carbon monoxide started leaking into the house and built up to a dangerous level.
I actually remember when this episode originally aired... I only remember the part about the carbon monoxide poisoning plot and the part where the father collapses in the hallway. I was only 5 at the time too! It's weird the things you remember... :)
I was wondering if you had the segement from this episode where a dump truck carrying hot asphalt overtunes on an occupied car. I would just enjoy seeing that one again.
the severity of the poisoning depends on: * how much carbon monoxide is actually present in the environment. * the duration you are exposed to carbon monoxide. * the age of the individual concerned - elderly, children and the foetus are all at greater risk. * the general state of health. * the extent of physical activity - effects are increased with higher activity levels.
In this one, it may have been because there was more carbon monoxide downstairs. The mother and daughter were downstairs together, and the father and son were upstairs.
i was just wondering if it has anything to do with it, since alcohol also has a different kind of effect on women because of the fat difference in the body..
The gender had nothing to do with it. The fact is that the girl and mom were downstairs in a more concentrated area. The dad and son were upstairs in the bedrooms.
scary scary scary thing. always have carbon monoxide detectors in ur home. if u dont INSTALL THEM RIGHT AWAY! VERY IMPORTANT u bsicly sleep wen u get poisioned that way !
how did the the carbon monoxie get into the house in the first place, and, secondly, how did everybod else i.e. firefighters didnt get carbon monoxide into them?
Their furnace wasn't properly ventilated, which allowed carbon monoxide to leak into the house. The firefighters probably weren't exposed long enough to get poisoned, the family had been in the house for hours.
And, contrary to what TV shows would have you believe, natural gas in its unburned state is harmless, except that it can explode there is a high enough percentage in the air. Breathing in natural gas doesn't make you pass out, though. (Unless you were just breathing in stright natural gas.) I've seen so many TV shows where someone turns on the natual gas from a stove in a house to knock someone out or kill them. It's pretty comical.

Children typically have a faster metabolism, so the carbon monoxide would affect the children faster than an adult.

I was wondering if you had the segement from this episode where a dump truck carrying hot asphalt overtunes on an occupied car. I would just enjoy seeing that one again.

You have knack for requesting segments that I don't have complete versions of.

you think women can get the poisoning easier than men??
since here the women were the first one's to get really bad, and in another carbon monoxide episode of r911 the women were also in the baddest shape..

the severity of the poisoning depends on: * how much carbon monoxide is actually present in the environment.

The dad and son were upstairs in the bedrooms.

how did the the carbon monoxie get into the house in the first place, and, secondly, how did everybod else i.e. firefighters didnt get carbon monoxide into them?
youngwidow2007 5 years ago
Their furnace wasn't properly ventilated, which allowed carbon monoxide to leak into the house. The firefighters probably weren't exposed long enough to get poisoned, the family had been in the house for hours.

yep it's odorless, that's why everyone SHOULD get a carbon monoxide detector.

I thought these days they add odor to it?

they add odor to natural gas. however carbon monoxide is a by product from unburned fuels. theres no way to add smell to it
