I remember l was living in Boston at the time and whenever I'd go to visit my brother out in NYC we would make the trek out to Slipped. When I was a late teen/early 20's I worked at Discomat records at Grand Central Station (before CD's !!!) so I was always a music/metal head...but I loved getting imports at Slipped !!!
Not to mention how cool Mike and Co. were to all us local metal bands ... my band Maelstrom, Cold Steel, and Kronin to name a few. They would always let us sell our demos through there and hang up posters for upcoming shows. That place was simply the best. Never anything like it then ... probably never will be again
I really miss this store. Since selling CDs in stores is practically impossible now, It would be great if Mike made Slipped Disc an online music store.
DUDE HOLY SHIT!!!!!!! i knew randy and mike and jesse for the longest time!!!!! like since the dawn of '90s!!!!!!!! it sucks that it closed!!! you figured the landlord would want to make some money instead of no money!! and dee snider and vinny vincent used to be there sometimes!!!! it was just a great little place!!! even if it just sold head shop stuff and did away with all the cds, it would have survived just as good today!! it just sucks that it's gone, it was valley stream's cbgb's!!!
I used to hang out there for HOURS on end in the 83-84 era (Much to the chagrin of Mike, though he was always good natured about it) Slipped disc was an original and both a bright spot and refuge during a rather dark period in my life.
Way back in 1982 I bought some boot leg records , Aerosmith. the label said slopped disc records , in the middel of the LP .... there good stuff ... was that you guys ? if so thank's .. for the good tunes....... boise ID
Ah man, this really kind of tugs at the heart strings. Slipped Disk was one of the few places I could go to to find the music I was really interested in and it's closing was one of the worse things ever. The whole street seems to be closing down now.
slipped disc was my life.. i live in valley stream and i remember growing up around slipped disc. its such a shame they closed cause i now have nowhere to get any of my cds... i also never got that death hoodie hangin behind mike's head
I used to work at Laurel Pharmacy on the corner. Used to go there every Saturday. Prices were higher than other stores but the selection was incredible. Can't belive it closed. Man Valley Stream has changed since I moved to Florida in 2004.
That store look really awsome. That sux because in Toronto we dont have a store like that:(. If anyone here is from Toronto can someone tell a good store like that. Because i might go downtown this weekend.
I remember taking the train from Long Beach every Sat. w/ my good friend Charlie and others friends to buy the best collection of metal and punk on Long Island... Got to see Metallica on their first tour @ the Rio Theater across the street and at the in store appereance @ Slipped Disk in 83.... also met Slayer, Motorhead, Wasp, etc there... Great times.... And walking back to the LIRR and stopping by @ Ancona for a couple of Slices. Slipped Disk will be missed
of course they're closed now, niggers don't buy music, they steal it. soon all of valley stream will be closed storefronts, and the only thing left will be a bunch of dotheads with lotto machines. f' VS
I would save my lunch money all week long, and then EVERY FRIDAY like clockwork, walk the 30-45 minute trek , or have a parent drive us over to Slipped Disc while we made our purchases and proudly added to our growing Record collections ..
One of my most vivid young memories is when my sister and I cut school on my 13th birthday in order to walk over to Slipped Disc where she bought me Depeche Mode's Construction Time Again and a slice of pizza at Ancona to celebrate my big teenage debut:-)
jesus, havent been to slipped disc in a couple months and was lookin for their phone number on google, saw this vid link show up. cant believe they're closing/closed, such a fuckin shame
Can't believe it's closing I heard it was the stupid Mass Transit store on the corner that can pay higher rent... so... It was an amazing store, It's been there since the begginning of time itself...
I grew up in valley stream and slipped disc is a legendary landmark. you have these fucking minorities that are destroying the Valley Stream economy because the have no money to spend. business are trouble on rockaway ave.
Wow. I have to say that I'm VERY impressed with this film - it's one of the better documentaries I've seen in a long time. It was really well done, good interview and, the most important element, SLIPPED DISC! I was lucky enough to grow up 5 blocks away, so I was there almost daily. I still love that store, I will always love that store, and I will forever miss that store. God Bless Rob S., and God Bless SLIPPED DISC!!
I used to take walks all the way from the south end of Rosedale just to shop at Slipped Disc and get a slice at Ancona. Slipped Disc is a treasure, when the Rio closed up and they lost those great in-stores I thought SD would eventually fade, but the customers are as loyal as Mike has been to one single genre that defines SD: Metal!
that was awesome! u know, if u turned the corner, u cud see my church! lolz. i see that store everyday & wondered what the history was behind it. & i also never went in. i need to check it out one day
Great doc. I've been a Slipped Disc junkie for about 12 years. I used to work up the block which pushed my addiction into overdrive. Bring back vinyl Slipped Disc!
I got my first Alice Cooper record from that store. Sucks thats it is gone.

sad to see Slip Disc is gone. I always thought it would be there... and to its credit, it lasted a long time...
Slip Disc should have been made a landmark. It was that important to Long Island's music scene.
I went there many times for music in my highschool days growing up in VS.
