Ironically, I too have a son named James (Jamie), and he too is low functioning basically non-verbal autistic, 17 years old. People need to see children like yours and mine, to realize that no, the majority of "autistics" (NOT autism spectrum, but autistics) aren't "Rain Man" Kim Peek people.
compassion is very rare these days.. and your niece to her uncle.. is just beautiful!
I have a son who has Austism and severe Mental Retardation.. and I am here with you! my daughter has no compassion for him.. but my youngest daughter is like your niece.. she wants to be a doctor.. Keep making videos.. their wonderful!!
aww. they make a good pair huh? i agree with the others who are telling u bravo! for not hiding him away in some institution. he is a human with feelings, fears, love, insecurities... just cuz hes not telling u what hes thinking doesnt mean hes not thinking. i also applaud u for allowing his niece to be a part of his care. we as a society dont give children enough credit. children instinctually love and care. we just need to give them the oppurtunity.
I believe in future she will have a strong character. And a WOW to you as mother. You are great! Moments like this show us that there are still people out there that are humans and care about others. You are doing good by showing your son to the world and don't hide him like others.
For the record, I think it's admirable that you have these videos to show people. Autism is a spectrum and not any one person with autism is the same and some are much more profoundly autistic then others. You care for your son very much and it shows, that you bring others into your world through your videos. You don't try to hide him like you are ashamed of him like some other families might do. You should be commended for bring true awareness to autism.
whats not to accept?, I love him already, you can see that he's deep in thought and not 'simple' like we assume on face value, deep in thought, actually the opposite of what we assume
I have to extend to you my utmost respect for you as a mother. I have watched many of your other videos and think that you and your family are an example to the rest of us.
thats so strange where you write they say hes "too austic",would they like jamie to not be so austic when your recording him.keep up the great work with jamie and your niece is a real credit to you and your family! :)
aww your little Bella loves her uncle, she will be a Great mommy some day when she is older and be able to have patciants(sp)
i claped when she gave him the craker in stead of just pushing it towards him and when he took it from her.
I think they get along realy well because of his"mentle" age must be some where around her age. I know that my brother who is 20 gets along better with 12-14 year olds because his mentatly is that age(he was born premiee and FAS)
I would just like to take the time to tell you what a lovely son and niece you have. I have a son with Aspergers syndrome. You cope so well and have truly been sent here to give your son a better quality of life. I admire you in every way x
I am Asperger's/HFA, and i don't agree with those kinds of attitudes, either. We're all children of the Creator, no matter how we're made! Compassion and helping are the right responses toward autistic people anywhere on the spectrum! I applaud your loving and uncritical attitudes and your strength in your caring for your brother.
My brother is severly autistic. The uncle's mannerisms remind me so much of my brother's. Yet my brother is much more spastic in movements and in speech. He will throw out his arms violently or let out shrill screams constantly. Sad to say, but he cannot be around small children for safety reasons. I enjoyed this video--It was very nice and sweet. Keep posting!
I love this wonderful video! I also want to say I support you! ALL ends of the spectrum NEED to be shown! it is wrong to discriminate against james and tell you you shouldn't show what you do! You are a great mom and these videos need to be seen.
this video makes me cry. it reminds me of my six year old nephew who is severely autistic and also suffers from fragile x syndrome. my nephew eats the same way as your son in this video. I am so glad that you have posted videos of what it is truly like to have an autistic family member. I know that it is extremely hard work, and i commend you on everything that i know you do for your son. <3
well i don't care what any one says the mother of the autism boy she should it so ppl can see what its like to live with someone with autism i am mother of autism 19 years old daughter and she is like him.....its not Right for ppl judge her as a mother GOOD JOB JAMIE MOM....
I think there is more than just sweetness going on, I think she recalls what it was like when she was an infant and unable to communicate, making her intensely aware of what he is going through. The natural way she communicates through soft verbalization, gentle touches, and reads his eyes all suggest this to me.
I love videos of your niece with Jamey. You can tell she loves him and enjoys helping him. Sometimes I think children have open minds and hearts and just accept people for how they are and are eager to help. Kudos!!!
He seems most at ease around this little girl.
