  • I saw him do a clinic at a music storeyears ago, the guy is amazing..

  • I'm old enough to like the "Be Still" lead in because I understand it's meaning, but when he started the Cold Play, tears came to my eyes and I felt like I had heard his heart! Awesome!!!

  • Saw him 4 seperate times at Taylor guitar workshops and he blows my mind everytime. The Coldplay and U2 medley give me goosebumps. What a amazing gift this guy was given.

  • Saw him live and it was an hour and a half of this stuff! He is a very humble Christian guy who is very involved with his family. EVERYTHING he plays is so incredibly clean! No telling how many Taylors he's responsible for selling. He sold me...

  • Love this guy

  • I was here at this concert at the church in Southern KC. Great Man. Loves the Lord, his family, and his Country. Very Humble and great guitarist.

  • awesome, good guitar playing and singing, god is awesome

  • guitar gets a little bit easier every time you practice

  • @constantinou160160 Stephen Bennett and Andy McKee

  • So him with a crowd of about 200 people. Most of them were guitar players with their jaws down on the ground. Amazing

  • what i find amazing is that he can play a good part of the coldplay medley with his eyes closed

  • is this guitar in standard tuning?

  • @jszy Dropped D my friend ! God bless ya ! Corneille from Belgium

  • This man inspires me to keep practicing the guitar in the hope that, some day, I can have even a fraction of the talent that he does.

Doyle, thank you for your inspirational music and everything you do =)

  • 13 people have no hearts

  • scary. the talent of ten.

  • just saw this guy perform in a small venue and all I can say is wow. What a musician and my friend told me I should listen to his coldplay medaly. speechless.

  • I bet that congregation didn't know what had hit them! - I'm still knocked out by DD!

  • Wow... Just BEAUTIFUL

  • Be Still - written by his brother Aubrey, an excellent musician in his own right!

  • Excellent Perfomance!

  • pwah! that's amazing

  • what tuning is he in here?

  • @dwbryant3 Sounds like he's got his low E tuned down to D

  • Went to a clinic of his yesterday... Very, very Impressive technique; I've learned a lot in a couple of hours... Also a very humble and genuine person.... got my guitar signed :D

  • Doyle,

This song was one of Hank's favorites and mine as well. We are so Blessed to have you come by the house, to pray over Hank as you know he was Healed before he went to Heaven. Doyle, We will keep you in our prayers and will never forget you and your family,

Have a Happy Easter and please say hello to the Family,

    Mrs. Amy Garland

  • I'm not big on country music but Dykes is just an amazing musician.

  • Love the combination it works so well.

  • @bmanlance

maybe it does maybe it doens't

  • This gives me goosebumps

  • the guy's a feckin legend....magic!

  • Thanks for the Posting. A wonderful medley from DD, expressive and meaningful, with a great range of tone production. Lots of concentration and control to get the music out from the guitar.

If you appreciate this type of playing, may I suggest you try a YT search for 'Isaac Guillory', and sample a few Clips?

    [Tyneside, England.]

  • no, no open tuning. In that first song, he is simply in drop d. Detune the bottom E (low e) one step to D and there you go.

  • sounds like heaven! is't that some open tune what he is using?

  • Thank you so much, Mr. Dykes. God loves you. If there is a God, He listens, I'm shure he does, when I hear you.

  • Taylors -Aucoustic and Taylor T5. A lot of the sound is also an Amp he help design. the Rivera Sedona Series.

  • what brand of guitar does he play??

  • Taylor

  • everyone should watch him live. you'll leave not only in awe of his skill but of what a great guy he is in person.

  • I like tommy emmanuel, but to tell you the truth: dykes is the better guitar player. And you can't say who the better entertainer is. Everyone should have his own opinion.

  • @MrAlessior I think Tommy Emmanuel is extremely talented and I don't know if there is any better than him

  • @SamFlannery93 Do you know doyle dykes? Of course you do^^

I think doyle dykes, is the better one, but the opinions are different...

  • Doyle is probably the more proficient and technical fingerstyle player of him and TE, but Tommy has got so much more in his arsenal that makes up for it. I really don't think you can say definitively one is "better" than the other. If you really want proof of this, search "emmanuel dykes" and listen to them play together. They complement each other VERY well, though their styles are really pretty different.

  • It seems while looking at these vids, I've stumbled once again upon another Doyle/Tommy thread.

sorry about the reply to just bigaggaie, but I keep hearing Tommy this, and Doyle that- and nary ever is there a mention of Scotty Anderson, who, if he stepped on a stage anywhere where they were, they would BOTH sit down, and go to school in awe. No one knows Scotty for a couple of reasons. He mostly doesn't leave Ohio, and he's TRULY humble.

  • A True Masterpiece!

  • This DD signature Taylor guitar keeps sounding too much "electric" and with no soul, though the bass is deep and impressively clean. I'd be thrilled to see good old Doyle playing something more "musical" than that.

  • I agree, it sounds very "mechanical"

  • You should check the videos out with Doyle and Tommy performing together, to legends together!

  • This is really good stuff, the first coldpplay part is just amazing :)

Still prefer Tommy tho, atleast he is funnier =P He is a better entertainer aswell! But Doyle is ze shit too

  • tommy who? sorry, i am new to this kind of music although my uncle took me to see doyle dykes when i was 8 and i got his pick :D

  • "Tommy Emmanuel", he's got lots of videos up here. Check him out!

  • thanks a lot, I will

  • Tommy Emmanuel! Check him out, he is awsome

  • I would be awesome to have Dykes, Laurence Juber and Phil Keaggy all play together! Each one an amazing guitarist.

  • the best guitarist ever...undisputed champ!!!!

  • that's really amazing!!! i believe i can play like him someday :))) just kidding :D

  • His Taylor sounds just godly!

    x

  • coldplay part is amazing!

  • im 15 and i think this guys great!

hes a hugh inspiration to me.

does anyone know any other guitarists similairto his genre?

  • andy mckee, justin king, erik mongrain, don ross, tommy emmanuel(sp?)

  • thanks man!

  • Antoine Dufour..the best

  • most of his stuff is actually more like chet atkins style.

  • Naudo (search youtube)

  • @costantinou160160 Check out Tommy Emmanuel, he is even better imo! :)

  • @costantinou160160 Tommy Emmanuel?

  • @costantinou160160 Tommy Emmanuel

  • @costantinou160160 try Tim Reynolds

  • @costantinou160160 Pete Huttlinger

  • This is great! I love that first song (and Coldplay), is "Be Still" an original?

  • Comment removed

  • Brad.. as I posted here ..half a year ago - 'Be Still' was based on Psalm 46:10,

but that's original DD composition and.. MASTERPIECE!!!

  • Oh, I see. Well I really liked it, he sings very well.

  • wow i never knew he sang

  • R E S P E C T!

    connor shaw

  • Amazing!.....

  • Some day ill be half as good as him :D

  • @y12n3h

    doubt it

  • @y12n3h Some day, I'll be lucky if I'm even close to half as good as him:D

  • Respect Doyle!

It's a joy to come and listen to some world class music!

    Thanks

    Jay

  • amazing amazing amazing. it starts to lag after like 7 minutes...='''(. ruins it!

  • This just tops anything else Ive ever heard in my life before!

    Wished I'd been to Knebworth

sorry I couldn't make it Doyle

  • We Love you Doyle and are saddened on the passing of your dad "Bubba"

  • man thats beautiful, id love some tabs for be still, anyone know where they could be?? I just bought a taylor 814ce from my local music shop and Doyle actually played it at a little clinic he put on there! so sweet

  • God bless you

  • Gods Proud Of You Doyle I'm Sure!

  • Playing is good. Nice chord structure and melody.

  • I remember seeing him for the first time live without even knowing him. Boy what a big surprise that was! Just one question and I'm being honest: What was the third song in the Coldplay Medley?

  • i believe the songs are

the scientist, yellow, in my place

  • I love this version of this song, I didnt even know who he was until two days ago, he played at a really local guitar shop in renton washington and it was awesome... does anyone know how hard it is to play this?

  • depends on how good you are on fingerpicking, but i think its kinda hard.. takes alot of time:p many pull-offs and hammer on but when you got it.. then you just can stop playing it:)

(coldplay medley is it that i mean)

  • Missed the DD concert in Warsaw, Virginia... went to go see Third Day and didn't realize he was playing on the same day. He is one person I've been waiting to see live for quite some time.

  • I noticed the top of his guitar isn't completely flat. Is this normal even for an expensive guitar?

  • yup. its just string tension. it happens lol. you can fix it a bit with moisture.

  • be still, is it his own work?

  • based on Psalm 46:10 (..as many-many songs throug ages),

but this one - it's DD masterpiece!!!

  • great guy

    Many respect

I just started to learn the tab i found on coldplay medley by doyle dyke

    Hard piece of masterwork

    My condolations to LazzariJ

    Godd bless !

  • Dude Doyle is tight man i had lunch with him hes a great guy

  • what his like? all flat down on the earth kind of guy? he so great on the guitar..

  • Finally got to see Doyle and Haley last night. Told Doyle I really appreciate what he did and he just goes "psh..." Incredibly humble folks and great people to have around. Hope to see them again soon.

  • I just got back from a show of his. I talked to him before and after the show. He's incredibly personable. Before the show he was just standing there at the back of the crowd talking with a friend, holding his guitar. Great guy, amazing musician. You have to see him live to really appreciate what he does.

  • oh yeah hes funny. when he preformed his son played with him and he isnt too bad himself. but doyle is a great guy i cannot wait to see him again

  • Rest in Peace June my darling wife

Thanks Doyle for your music which helps me to cope with my grief.

    God Bless

  • This is awesomeness

  • Doyle's an amazing guitarist. A great talent, but I don't believe his gift if from god like he does..... He worked very hard and deserves the credit himself !

  • No doubt he obviously had to work very hard for his talent, but ALL talent is of God. To say that Doyle deserves all of the credit for himself would be an insult to God, and after having the opportunity to meet Doyle and talk with him on several occasions, I dont think that he would appreciate that statement.

  • I've hired Doyle to play a gig, he's a beautiful person with a deep belief in god. We talked for quite some time and got on well. We just disagree on the god thing, and neither of us had a problem with it. Thats all.

  • Fair enough. Peace

  • I had the very great pleasure of meeting Mr. Dykes last night and seeing him play. I can't believe what I saw and heard. A wonderful musician and a nicer man.

  • A classy, great christian man with an incredible God given talent.

  • In times of tribulation, or in fact anytime is ok to listen to this from Doyle!

    He's COOL!

  • this song is "yellow" By "coldplay" written by Chris martin "coldplay" about his dying mother who was yellow with jaundice

  • Not true, yellow actually was named after the yellow pages phonebook that was on the shelf while he was writing it,he couldn't think of a title for it.

  • you beeter check again!!

  • beeter? also, would you write a song named after your dying mother's skin tone?

    maybe you would

  • Music is inspired by all types of things, when is saw doyle in person, this was his point and used this song to make his point. That was the story he told to us in the audience. Which only confirmed the story they "coldplay" told on vh1 storytellers. You do not need to say rude things or insinuate that I am some type of jerk. Listen to the words or look them up online. I was trying to help someone with song title.

  • i just saw Doyle Dykes and this was my favorite song, it really is about Chris Martin's mother. Beautiful song.

  • this song is "yellow" By "coldplay" written by Chris martin "coldplay" about his dying mother who was yellow with jaundice

  • This is still one of my favorite songs ever!

Their is a very Poweful Message in this song,

    God Bless! :)

To one of the Greatest Musicians Our there Today! Doyle Dykes

  • This was probalby one of Hank Garland's favorite songs. Hank Garland visited Doyle at his brothers Church and watched Doyle play this song and many others. Hank so admired Doyle Dykes and his family. They remained close friends until Hank's passing on to Heaven , Dec. 27th, 2004. Amen, Thank you Doyle Dykes and Family ~ Amy & Billy Garland ~ The Hank Garland family ~ Psalms 91

  • Chameleon.

  • I love the coldplay medley. Simply amazing

  • Beautiful song.

  • B e a u t i f u l. What a sence of music, what a style. God this is nice. Thx

  • yeah someone say where is it I search the tab

  • the fun is in discovering how to play it your own way..

  • one of nicest guys you ever meet

    a great person all round

  • highly religious..

never heard him sing before..i like

  • Beautiful playing by one of the most virtuosic guitar players I've seen.

  • Hi, does anyone know where the song "Be Still" is from? Who did it originally? Does anyone know where I could get the tab? thanks

  • wow, first time i've heard him sing. It's amazing. I cried.

  • Coldplay - the scientist

    coldplay - yellow

  • Yes,Awesome is the word for DD.

  • Solo is awesome. DD you're the best !

  • DD has to be the world's greatest living steel-string player. He is so good it's scary...

  • agree

  • stop polluting.

  • Great to hear someone use his (great) talent to glorify God!!!

  • It is hard to find words to say how talented this guy is. Bravo Doyle. You inspire me.

  • Doyle - You are the best... I really enjoy listening to your music. Truly Awesome.

  • Never heard someone play something this intricate on guitar... wonderful. Makes you wish you could find a way into his brain and steal the secret to making every note sound as deep as they do :)

Anyone know what guitar he is using here?

  • The guitar is a Taylor DDSM (Doyle Dykes Signature Model). I agree with your description of his playing. Goes beyond awesome.

    Thanks,

    Richard

  • I love the medley! Not usually a fan of fingerstyle but this is awesome!

  • fantastico..

spero di vederlo presto dal vivo, magari al soave guitar festival..magari con tommy emmanuel..

    magari!!

  • i don't think i've EVER seen this guy make a mistake, and i've watched most of his videos, GOD BLESS

  • Just came home an hour ago from an intimate concert with great play and story telling stuff with Doyle Dykes. His play is amazing and he is the most likeable chap you can imagine.

  • Hey, did he bring any T-Rex pedals with him? He borrowed some from the store I saw him play in, and he said he loved them a lot, so I was wondering if he took some home after the gig.

  • a dont suppose someone could be bothered to cut out the "be still" part a mean its good but a want the coldplay melody for ma bebo!!

  • I saw him two summerd ago with Hayley. He spoke to me for awhile before he left. He even talked to my step dad on the phone. He was a real cool guy. Hayley was really good too and she looked way hott playing that mandolin and singing.

  • Very good musician and guitar player! Clean and very good example of acoutic guitar technic and sound!!! Thanks for your emotional playing it make me feel good. BRAVO!!!

  • great

  • He makes it look so easy yet sound so breathtakingly beautiful!

  • ive played at that church!

  • what amp is he using?

  • It's a Rivera Doyle Dykes model I think they call it a Sedona like Sedona New Mexico.

  • i wernt really into the god praising bit, but the coldplay medley is breathtaking

  • There is not a player alive who can touch this man. A great song and played so well. I hope some young folks will get a chance to view this. What inspiration.

  • i do reail apriciate gos music

  • you know doyle my your sung incourage people thant god is a great god and worty of praise ma god bless you Doyle througth your song

  • Doyle is an amazing guitarist. Saw this man live playing this and he blew my mind at a Taylor Guitars Workshop.

  • I'm in love... *_*

  • he's truly breathtaking with the guitar.. but..

    sorry. his vocals arent amazing.

  • Do you know how hard it is to play the guitar and sing at the same time.

  • correction... "do you know how hard it is to play the guitar LIKE THAT and sing at the same time? :p

  • Doyle's my favorite (and the the best) guitar picker. However, there are many singers that I think are better in technique. Having said that, I feel his singing is part of his ministry. In that respect I enjoy and am inspired by his total performance.

  • Sorry this is out of context. I meant it to reply to "JamesLee22" a couple of pages down.
