"let all the poisons that lurk in the mud, hatch out" couldnt have said it better myself...the line really makes you think of what claudius's intentions were after all that XD
much thanks to zeus...zeusBARK, that is! for putting this up, you have helped to happily get thru several otherwise dull nights at work. i've watched i claudius at least 5 times now and it truly got better every time i watched it. best miniseries of all time, IMHO. those crazy brits.
at the risk of sounding like a flaming feminist here I have to ask this question, it is me or do most of the women of this program seem to have more in the brains and common sense department then the men, the ones in power? The women seem to have more on the ball and see the writing on the wall and know more then the ones in power!!
Some fool women were portraited in the Series: Livilla (sister of Claudius), Messalina and Julia (daughter of Augustus). Neither of them got power by any merit, and they were unable of self-restraining. They were in love with evil men, while treasoned good ones, and wanted all quickly and carelessly.Julia was lusty but not evil. Mesalina´s lust fed on her evilness and viceversa.Livilla was the most evil (plotted to kill her own daughter) because of her lust for a man.
I got sooooo tired of reading that the videos are out of sync all through these episodes postings so much that I stopped reading them!!! It is not often and not that noticable!! Who cares? I am just grateful that someone put the time and effort into uploading this classic wonderful story!! THANK YOU!!!
He didn't do much to bring good govt to Rome. Nero the final Claudian but the next emperors were not a 'good lot' give or take - Domitianus, Commodus, Didius Julianus, Severus, Caracalla, Elagabalus, Maximinus thrax, Gallienus, Carinus, etc. They never managed to recover their system or make a successful new one.
If a venomous serpent could speak, as in a familiar biblical story, it would sound precisely like good ole Agrippinilla...I think I'll name a new coffee roast after her.

They mispronounced her name. Her name was Aggripina the Younger, not Aggripinilla.
redbayly 1 year ago
@redbayly Aggripinilla is another way to say Aggrippina the Younger, or Aggrippina Minor, as far as I know.

"It's Messalina all over again. Worse, a Messalina with brains. That's worse than all the German tribes combined!"
So many brilliant lines of wisdom!

How hilarious is Nero in the first few minutes of this episode? Oh my Lord I've rewound the part where he spins around the room about ten times.

It is the first part, it's just that it goes to the time of his death and then it goes back. That's how they made the episode
