  • Sweet vid!

I wish I had paid more attention to what you said about elevator trim when watched this before my first flight--my Hawk Sky did an unintended grass-grazing takeoff :))

I'm really surprised there's no how to assembly vid for the Hawk Sky on YouTube. There were several things I had to discover via frantic google searches while putting it together with a friend last weekend.

Any suggestions for dealing with relatively high winds? I live in a very plain (pun intended) state, and it's ve

  • can you make a vid of putting the plane together

  • you got port and starboard around wrong

  • nevermind just fixed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yayaayyyyyyy

  • i just got this plane and the alarons are backwards how do i fix this???? please help

  • Can you please give us the link for this plane, RCPowers dosent seem to have any of the links that any of the videos talk about... i can never find the Free PDFs or the where to buys...

  • @JAMESHARTDRUMS Thanks for watching.

I got this plane from nitroplanes.

Youtube doesn't seem to allow posting links, so you'll have to fill in the part for Nitroplanes . com then copy-paste the remaining portion of the link.

    [Nitroplanes] /60a-dy8925-hawksky-rtf-24g.html

Hope that helps you out. Happy flying.

  • @PecanGrowerNM hey mate, thanks for that... im trying pretty desperatly to find these planes in Australia, not happening for me so far.. ive emailed Dynam themselves and im a little concerned, the email bounced back saying that they have been temporarily suspended and i cant contact them..

hopefully they are still in business and will make all the spare parts in the future...

  • @JAMESHARTDRUMS Check with Grayson Hobbies. They have it on sale for 119 USD, although I don't know if they ship internationally. They are the hobby shop that is featured in a lot of RCPowers videos. They're at graysonhobby-dot-com

  • @JAMESHARTDRUMS thanks for the tips, i bought a durafly spitfire i want to fly and ive never flown a plane before.

  • i love you thanks big guy!!! great video!

  • Did you ever trim elevator back to center ? I always do. But my HawkSky likes to porpoise sometimes. Should I leave it at full trim ? THANKS

  • @booterspaw Thanks for watching my video. I adjust the elevator trim as needed while I am flying. For the first few flights, it shouldn't be necessary for a beginner to adjust it at all. Proper use of the elevator trim is to involved to cover in a comment. The basics, for me, entail trimming the elevator for level flight at my desired airspeed.

Porpoising is usually a sign of a mis-adjusted elevator, causing the plane to climb, stall, dive, recover, climb, stall, etc. Hope that helps.

  • @PecanGrowerNM Thanks Again, I'll do some experimentin' with the elevator.

  • Thanks for the Videos, Very Informative!! I have the Wild Hawk (with cut out ailerons & mixing enabled on the transmitter to also use the ailerons as flaps and airbrakes). In your video it looks like when you were flying it was fairly windy? 5 ~ 10 Mph? I find the descents are slower and smoother when there's some wind vs at dusk sometimes (LEDs) when there's very little wind and then it doesn't glide down so easy. Is it correct to apply more throttle and have faster landings?

  • Hi, excellent videos! One question: I am used to fly 3 channel planes (the rudder is on right hand). When I bought the Dynam Icanfly (4 CH) I switch the controls and I put ailerons on left control and rudder on right control. So I used the rudder to make turns and did not use the ailerons. I will buy the Hawk Sky, is it ok to do the same thing? I did that on the Icanfly because with rudder it was very responsive, with ailerons takes more time to make turns. What is your suggestion?

  • @Cameravastleggers Thanks for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

I recommend something like the Hawk Sky or Wild Hawk, specifically something with a pusher prop (prop in the back) as opposed to a tractor prop (prop in the front). When you crash (and crashing RC planes is something nearly every beginner will do), you are far less likely to damage the motor or prop if the plane has a pusher prop.

Save the cessna type planes for 3rd or 4th. Good luck and happy flying.

  • BUT what if ur flying a parkzone p-47 with landing gear retracts.. hmmmm

  • 2 questions

why is one wing green and the other red?

and how do u find a planes cg and what is the importance of it?

  • Urgent ! : Can You make a video where you have a rc with weels and show us a take off and landing of a airplane ? I have a airplane that i broke 2 propeller and I have 1 left . the model of my rc airplane is a TW-748(-1 <-- this is for the color)

  • This was helpful but I would like to know how to check the centre of gravity and all that, pls do a video

  • I bought a cessna corvalis and never flew before? Is it a good beginner plane?

  • @fsxaviator - The plane has landing gear, but I never use it.

  • @PecanGrowerNM hey thanks for the video its very helpful i just finished my plane this morning but i have to wait for this dang new mexico weather to clear up. im going to use rare earth magnets to hold the wings together. is that a good idea? if not what would you suggest?

  • does this plane come with gear?

  • i'll take mine out for my maiden flight tomm, hopefully it will go as good as this.

    thanks for the tips.

  • @cbrewer79 No matter how it goes, remember to have a good time. Flying is fun! And styrofoam is easy to glue back together.

Thanks for watching and happy flying!

  • unfortunately mine wouldn't stop climbing, re-trimmed with the elevator right up but would still just want to go up.. got so high and into the clouds I never saw it again! first flight too d'oh.

  • its very important for a beginner to chose a plane with a pusher prop. set up as when you smack the ground ,as you will as a novice, the prop always breaks and the motor shaft bends and then you need a new one. ---------great video, good tips on your first flight!

  • where is the ideal CG for any homemade plane

  • i cannot get one of these anywhere as i live in england but i have a 2 channel flying seagull will this be good enough to learn beginnings with as i prefer jumping in at the deep end i am a quick learner and love rc planes your videos are very helpful

  • @MrSamanosuke78

I'm not familiar with that airplane, but I have flown 2 channel trainers (throttle and rudder) and I think they are great. Without elevator control, it is much harder for a beginner to stall the airplane. Even with the 4 channel Hawk Sky, I recommend using only the elevator trim for your first flights.

I'm glad you have enjoyed my videos and I hope you love flying.

  • @MrSamanosuke78 FYI, you can get the hawk sky in the uk, I got one recently. Cheap and cheerful little plane! I got mine from nitrotek.co.uk

I haven't flown an rc plane since I was a kid some 20 odd years ago so got this to re-learn and have a bit of fun in my local park, the maiden flight was faultless - think it's going to give hours of fun :-) not bad for a shade over £100 inc 2.4ghz radio etc

  • Firstly a BIG thanks for all your time and effort in making these instructional videos! (kudos to the cameraman too!)

I've never really had much inclination to fly but watching your videos has hooked me into to learning to fly RC planes!

I have a MAJOR birthday this week and I'm hoping my wife will pick up on the hints and get me the HawkSky!

I notice on your plane that you have bands of different colours on each wing? Is this to help you with the planes orientation at distance?

    Cheers

    Dave

  • @Davethebluessinger

Thanks for the Kudos Dave. Much appreciated.

The bands were intended to help me differentiate left and right. However, I found that at a distance, I couldn't distinguish the colors easily enough. If I was going to do it over again, I would mark just one of the wings since the two color marks look too similar in flight.

  • nice wish had seen ur video before i flew mine. i just gave full power and she flys. will try the 3/4ths power. john also check out my videos. john

  • Hey thanks a lot Mr. Pecan or how about the nutty professor ? lol Hey Gr8 video ,very informative and exciting to watch. There is so much info that I have to keep on rewinding and listening again. You make a gr8 teacher. Thanks so much. Hey my hawk sky is all built and I am waiting for myDC6 lipo charger before I go ahead and fly. I don`t want to dischage the battery too much for the first flight.

  • It might be that i am stupid beyond any wild imagination but my plane is NOT FLYING NO MEATHE WHAT...

  • Great Video! I just ordered this plane on line and want to know how tough it is. If I take it high in the sky and do a vertical dive at full throttle, then will it be able to handle the G-Force of a quick and full elevator loop? In the past I have snapped the wing on a gas powered ARF with this maneuver. I'm just getting started with the electric RC planes and am looking forward to the simplicity of same. Also, can you tell me how long it takes for the stock battery to recharge? Thanks!

  • Hi Pecan,

Can you make a video that goes over flight controls, like what controller inputs you are using when doing turns or different maneuvers. please let me know what you think and if my request is clear.

    thanks,

    Bob

  • Hey Bob. Thanks for watching my videos.

I will make a video talking about flight controls and maneuvers. I'll try to have it up in the next couple of weeks.

  • Nice video, I didn't really think about the trim tab as a beginner helper before.

  • Thanks Bob. I hope this helps make some first flights a bit easier.

  • Good flying and helpful tips but I have one word for the person on the camera

    TRIPOD

The video is hard to view because of all the shaking. Tripods can be used as a cheap steady cam or a ground platform

  • Thanks for the tip. Is it too sad to tell you we did use a tripod? I'll have to read up on how to make motion videos steadier.

  • really? The video of you standing and talking does seem very stable, but the video following the plane through the air certainly doesn't seem as though you did

  • Hey RC. Yup, the whole thing was on a tripod. Our next couple of videos seemed more stable. I think my cameraman is getting used to balance zoom vs stability with our camera.

Thanks again for watching and commenting.

  • Hey very well done!

  • Thanks Dave. I appreciate that.
